Conversation with my dad about the history of our farm and how we got where we are.
Border View Farms is a mid sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. We raise corn, soybeans, and wheat on a little over 3,000 acres.
My name is Nathan. I run this channel and farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. I get questions about how and why we do things on the farm frequently, even from my own family members, so to help explain things it's easier to just show you. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture in general as well as dispel some of the common misconceptions.
I hope you enjoy my content and please ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can.
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos.
You can reach me through messages on Facebook or Instagram @borderviewfarms or by email bakernth@gmail.com. Please don't call my parents house!

I've been wanting to see this video for over a year now, thanx to your dad for doing something he probably wasn't a big fan of but did it anyway , and most of all THANK YOU for the hours of time you have invested in this channel and the attempt to teach a few of us city folks where our food really comes from and the hard work involved. May the next year be even better.

I gotta say Nathan, this video was awesome! It reminds me so much of me and my dad talking in the tractor or combine. I lost my dad in May of 96 when I was 30. I teared up a few times watching you both interact. I miss him everyday. It's me and my uncle and our boys along with 8 employees that run our farm now. 5th generation at this point. One of the reasons I've watched you from the beginning is how you and your dad work together. Just like me and my dad did. Thanks again. Back to harvest prep. Take care 🙂

Priceless. You'll watch this video in 20, 30 or 40 years from now and be damn glad you done it. I buried my Dad this past July. Many things I wish I'd have done and a video like this one of them. I'd be interested to hear your Dad talk about how he built his kiln. My Dad ran two of those, 45,000 board feet each, back in the day from a fuel oil boiler. He worked 49 years at a gunstock factory.

Great Video Nathan, good chat with your dad on the farm history. I bet he does feel lucky that he started farming when he did. I know he has worked hard and made good decisions along the way. Many years ago, I asked my dad the same question, (what would he do differently looking back). He said about the same thing as your dad. I never asked my mother a similar question (maybe I didn't want to hear the answer), but I think her answer would have been somewhat different. Somehow, they managed to stay together 62 years on the same farm. I don't think enough men realize the importance of a strong farm wife, who will silently pull on the rope and make so many things happen correctly behind the scenes. This discussion was omitted in the interview with your dad. I think a similar interview with your mother would be enlightening and well deserved.
