Ever thought why people do crazy things? Because it's fun. Eric decided to hitchhike across Russia by himself. On a $5 a day budget. He had to sleep on the street, interact with the police and find way to entertain himself. Lets see what he thinks of Russia after 4 months!

One of the most interesting videos I have seen in a long time. The dialogue and open interaction between these two guys was pretty awesome. An Asian guy hitchhiking across Russia and a Russian guy that speaks excellent English and with a bit of a Southern accent? Perfect audio and background. The format on this one was excellent. Walking and talking to a friend outdoors always stimulates the brain making for a more lively verbal communication. I will never be able to go to Russia but thank you very much for giving me this window to look into Russia. Enjoyed the episode on buying the new KIA and the snowmobile one with the hike, brook and stuck vehicles. The one about the woman that drove from UK to Russia was also very interesting but would have been a lot better if there would have been more information about her such as her profession in UK and how she originally decided to go to UK. Also enjoyed the teddy bare lady. Some really beautiful hand sewn bears. You can see she loves making them. (At some point could you please work some info in about those very long Russian license plates with big letters small letters and lots of digest and letters.) Great channel. Looking forward to more videos!!!

@@friendlyoutlieronearth5128 ... I would say there are many different aspects to adventures... some are destructive to oneself, some harmful to others, some are constructive for oneself, some are constructive for others or for the world. Your adventurous spirit brings joy, inner growth, memories you'll never forget, experience about life to yourself, and can bring inspiration to other brothers and sisters you come in contact with along your journey. Your adventure reminds me of a text I read once: __________________________________________________ The Path With The Heart From Carlos Castaneda: "Don Juan's Teaching" Don Juan said: Anything is one of a million paths. Therefore you must always keep in mind that a path is only a path; if you feel you should not follow it, you must not stay with it under any conditions. To have such clarity you must lead a disciplined life. Only then will you know that any path is only a path, and there is no affront, to oneself or to others, in dropping it if that is what your heart tells you to do. But your decision to keep on the path or to leave it must be free of fear or ambition. I warn you. Look at every path closely and deliberately. Try it as many times as you think necessary. Then ask yourself, and yourself alone, one question. This question is one that only a very old man asks. My benefactor told me about it once when I was young, and my blood was too vigorous for me to understand it. Now I do understand it. I will tell you what it is: Does this path have a heart? All paths are the same: they lead nowhere. They are paths going through the bush, or into the bush. In my own life, I could say I have traversed long, long paths, but I am not anywhere. My benefactor's question has meaning now. Does this path have a heart? If it does, the path is good; if it does not, it is of no use. Both paths lead nowhere, but one has a heart the other does not. One makes for a joyful journey; as long as you follow it, you are one with it. The other will make you curse your life. One makes you strong; the other weakens you. The trouble is nobody asks the question; and when a man finally realizes that he has taken a path without a heart, the path is ready to kill him. At that point, very few men can stop to deliberate, and leave the path. A path without a heart is never enjoyable. You have to work hard even to take it. On the other hand, a path with heart is easy; it does not make you work at liking it. For me, there is only the traveling on paths that have a heart, or on any path that may have a heart. There I travel... and the only worthwhile challenge is to traverse its full length. And there I travel... looking, looking, breathlessly. (Don Juan, a Yaqui Sorcerer) ________________________________ You, admirable young man, chose a temporary path that HAS a heart and your own heart is in synchronicity with it. Wish you all the best LIFE can bring into your way, as you deserve it.

Eric is adventurous type, ATM he has nothing to lose, thats cool, he is still young. On his travels he will find love of his life and settle down, then he will probably change his mind and start to appreciate the invariable style of life, because certainty is important - no stress to lose job, food for his kids etc. Anyway GL to you, Eric!
@ericastier1646
@ericastier1646 3 года назад
And the things you list are curses in themselves. Life is ever changing, nothing lasts, everything is transitional. The more you refuse to accept this, the more you will suffer finding out, life changes even the things you thought are the most stable will falter and disappear. So for someone who already knows how to swim in that environment, Eric has an edge to live a more fulfilling life.
@cybero75
@cybero75 3 года назад
@@ericastier1646 Hi, "nothing last", you wrote it right there, and the only curse in life is money, that's the bedrock for further vices. I don't want to expand it much, but I've lived a life like Eric does, wild and free, and I got older and that's why I wrote what I wrote. My motto back then was Forever Young (+ all those songs) and now Get the Balance Right (Depeche Mode's). It came naturally, I didn't try to forcibly change my life (or Colours of My Life, The Seekers). Those changes in our lifes are beautiful actually, they can (and will!) bring something new to taste, learn etc. Have a nice day, no irony. For you and everyone who reads it: "If the sun doesn't shine on you today, don't worry to dreaming it away." just made it up :)

@ericastier1646 3 года назад
@@cybero75 Well, i see you have an inkling for prose, and philosophy. Your post is moderately expressed and sharing your past experience of a bohemian life. Your first sentence however is construed and attributing or extrapolating thoughts that were not associated with my thinking. Money is not a curse as long as fulfills its role of providing liquidity and convenient way to carry value to buy and sell. The Curse however with a big "C" is the current banking system where bank S ters print currency which the equivalent of stealing value then in conivence with the amendment they imposed on the constitution (without consulting the people, no democracy) they force those bills to carry a value it never had. That is straight thievery of the worse kind. And they should be stopped. Currency should be backed by real value like gold otherwise we get this corrupt society we have that destroys the environment since money is limitless while the environmental resources are not. I went on a tangent but back to the subject, of course one cannot spend one's life as a vagabond, at some point one must take a trade and make business. But my point is the experience of having nothing and travelling is a good teacher of life that most young people could benefit from before they seek a more permanent life, keeping in mind nothing is permanent.

Tried going to college to eventually get some high paying mundane career I had no interest in. Took me awhile to realize that we only get to live once and being miserable chasing money is not something to strive for, another big factor is that every kid is graduating with a degree nowadays and what makes the biggest difference is work experience and that has always been the case for a very long time. You start a job underpaid anyways you just have to work your way up on the fly and get paid for your effort instead of racking up debt in a classroom. Only highly specialized professions like doctors and engineers require such an expensive certification and unfortunately not everyone is pursuing education for those fields.
@ericastier1646
@ericastier1646 3 года назад
@@zerohero5753 in your last paragraph referrencing "engineers and doctors' , trust me it's not unfortunate to not pursue a carreer in these fields, there are tons of engineers very dissatisfied with their lives (they have none).

I have also been hitchhiking quite a bit in Russia (mostly western side & the caucasus) as a solo female white western girl and definitely got different experiences compare to Eric's. People pretty much everywhere in the world judge you by the looks, and Russia is no exception but there are some regions/republics that are way friendlier (or not) towars foreigners or hitchhikers. It truely is like crossing different countries within the country, and slow travel like Eric did is the best way to experience it.

As a fellow hitchhiker, I totally agree that Russia is one of the most unpredictable countries out there!

@@friendlyoutlieronearth5128 After St. Petersburg you should go to Yakutsk in winter; my favourite place in Russia!

Hey Slava! Interesting video. Eric is a unique individual and impressive in his different language skills. I just don't know how safe it is to hitchhike and ask random people for stuff these days? Especially in a foreign country. I would not be crazy enough to do that. Just saying. Enjoyed the video though! Take care my friend!

Hey Scott! I think it's not very safe. In some parts of Russia it's totally not safe.

Apple from appletree ? He's a cool chuvak. ''You can better yourself when when you're traveling''. My travels were the greatest gifts to myself. I always find it very humbling. Kruto. Edit to add: Oh wow ! 5 bucks a day.. Even in Russia that must be a challenge. He mastered this traveling thing.

"Apple from appletree" Yes, but the phrase has 3 dots on the end, so it's probably a short version of "яблоко от яблони недалеко падает"(a Russian idiom). Direct translation to English would be "The apple never falls far from the tree". But I believe more accurate way to say it is "Like father, like son".

@@v.e.3744 Spasibo ! I thought it would be something like that :) It is a very international saying. We have the exactly same in my Dutch language. ''De appel valt nooit ver van de boom.'' Very old-skool.

@@chriswatchingponies9877 You're welcome! Google gave me a bunch of examples when I decided to double check it, but I thought it's too easy to translate it directly. Nice to know that we have such kind of similarities :)

I salute you, and you would always be welcome to my town. I would help you. To be honest, i could never do it like you are doing. I guess it's my build-in feeling of being able to rely on myself. I think it's a Dutch or western thing. It is extraordinary and an experiment i'm interested in. That's why i will follow you on RU-vid. At first, i thought that there was a reason why you picked the shirt. Indeed, later you said it was a sweet gift. I have been to Moskva & Peterburg last year. Russia For Beginners... but fantastic. I would LOVE to rent a car and drive from Moskva to Krasnodar Krai at the Black Sea next, one day. Visit towns like Voronezh, Volgograd etcetera, see the countryside. I'm a wimp, compared to you. Most of my traveling i did in America. There's no easier traveling than in America. Good Luck & Happiness to you, sir ! :)
