I've always had an aversion to steam sound because it has always sounded so unconvincing. For me, this is a game changer.

This is definitely a brilliant profile and once you have set the CV's to get the syntonisation so the wheel revolution matched the exhaust beat it really looks and sounds the part! 😊

A piece of thin foam can help the speaker get a more 'bassy' sound - it cuts down treble frequencies and makes the sound less shrill

Realistic sounds but where's the steam and smoke from the engine to match the noise? Surely it's about sight and as well as sound!

A smoke unit is not something that comes with a DCC sound profile and while there are a few options out there, it' snot common. Modellers can add smoke units if they wish of course, it just takes research. We don't add smoke units in to models we review as they don't come with the model of the sound profiles.
