Again just to reiterate best video ever. I have watched a couple on this Gyro and people skip lile five steps. You show and tell exactly where to plug everything in on the receiver and the Gyro in great detail. And go through everything step-by-step. Not only talking about it but showing you in real time. I wish you would make videos on other setups on other things just like this because this is the best informative video out there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you

Last weekend I maidened the FMS Beaver V2 using this Hobbyeagle AL-3 gyro . First using 25% gain as you suggested. Worked fine. Then moved the gain to 50% and the bird flew flawlessly. After that dialed the gyro to 75% gain and was even more stable with high winds , but at full throttle the Beavers tail began oscillating. So went back to 50% and that is my setting for the plane. Also using the on/off function on a two position switch. Dual rates work perfectly too. Very very important to follow instructions in the manual and watch this video is a must. Also making sure of the surfaces directions on both the receiver and gyro ( after installing it of course). Thanks for your info, video and tips.

I have The FMS V1 and intend on using it into mine. Someone wired in God knows what in mine, I brought is of Market place and drove 50 miles to get it. They added things I do not even recognize. I think it's a capacitor for the ESC and something for voltage regulation for the lights. I looks like a spaghetti farm in mine. I intend to strip everything out and redo what they have simply because the set up is messy and I dont even have room for the Stability system with all the junk that's in it.

Excuse my ignorance and stupidity here. But am working on a larger project that's more of a hybrid and have ZERO knowledge of RC's or yhese types of gyros. So I've been pondering many design sspects and "must haves" over the past week and a few things hit me last night about stabikity abd use of gyros. But im rhi king okd school spinning gyros. Anyway, all that got me thinking or wondering if youtube would have any video on how a gyro would work with a RC if scaled up? ... Found your vid first and am fascinated that such tech is available for this market and smaller size. But is Truly amazing and great job explaining everything. But I'm still gonna have to seek out an actual gyro video as I'm curious how they work inside 6 what the pros and cons are in the drone/jet world with this type system or if it'd even work or not? And as said; our project is substantially larger than your nice model RC here. Can you just explain to me like a 4th grader what's happening inside that box? It's not a real gyro in the sense of spinning hoops holding something steady. So that I'm really curious about. Assuming it's a mercury type leveling switch or some sort of G'sensor array that tells or sends the appropriate signal to each bit depending on your flying control inputs etc? Honestly i have no cle!! But is so very cool! What do these run price-wise? Lastly, what is "3D mode" here in this application!? What benefits do you get by 1) adding this gyro box and 2) using or not using 3D mode? Apologies for the dumb Q's but if I get the answers I think I will you may have just saved me a ton of money. Thanks. Actually since or if I have your (or someone else knowledgeable on all this) and your ear... say this was a drone but with forward thrust so like a std. 4 prop / 4 corner position yet scaled up say 5x fold. Would Gyros be warranted or even desired here? Since everything is "custom" and never seen anything like tgis before. Let alone such a clearly written Install manual likevtgis ine here. Clearly this company has their act together - but I digress. Just curious if they do even mfg the old spinning gyros!? Or has eveything gone this way now? (not having a clue as to whats inside the box) I'm the idiot remember? Or maybe this usage of the term 'gyro' is different today from what I'm thinking of wanting or needing from decades ago!? FWIW: If anyone's interested in learning more and working on a scaled-up beta version and getting paid for your experience... hit me up here. Will be Fall of 2023/early 2024 before we get to this stage but we coukd use several RC experts (large scale) ppl to assist or brainstorm with. Many thanks for any replies that are constructive. (And for those rolling your eyes at my words said here. I just write the checks and fund projects. But am a Mech Eng and architect turned entrepreneur and that's why I'm able to offer a small pay day for any help should you/we decide to work together. Fair?) So just know curiosity of gyros got me today hence me digging around RU-vid. I'm old school. So off to research more gyro videos but truly enjoyed this. Just wish you'd test-flown it at the end. Cheers.

@@mickwilton11 Does it bind to the receiver. I would put the receiver in another plane if you have one and see if it will bind. If so and the stabilizer is connected to the receiver correctly. I am using FlySky and pwm protocol. If you are using ibus or sbus you might try pwm and see if it will work that way. I am also using openTX. You have to configure your mode and arm switches on what ever transmitter that you are using. If that is all correct, you most likely have a bad stabilizer.

You say. Make sure the plane is flat and level before plugging in the gyro. Flat & level as it would be in flight? If you fly a tail dragger such as a J3 Cub etc... Would the gyro want to try and put the elevator down upon takeoff while the plane is still on the landing gear? Nose facing up? And can you use a gyro on a 3ch airplane?

My problem is with a Draco which has a very high incidence wing, opened the throttle and I had to feed down elevator trim to the max but ended up climbing vertically and then fell back, I used all the available trimming. I then tried some programmed subtrim but on closing down the throttle it then dived down, so that was no good. CofG is correct BTW. I want the gyro to give down elevator on a climb only to help with this. The test to tip fus tail down does show it's working, but then if I hold it in that same position elevator returns to normal - is that going to happen in flight?

I see remote gain is the same port on the unit as it is for flight modes. How is it possible to turn the knob for gain and use a switch for flightmodes. You say if you have an extra channel on you receiver you use that channel and also set that to aux 2. Does that also work for your 2 aileron servo,s and 2 elevator servo,s , wanting to use them apart from eachother, just plug in your receiver and assign to your aileron and elevator? Does it not need to go in the unit for gain? Do i need the black unit for this, for wingtype? Do i need to use a Y-cable otherwise, or does s-bus help opening channels for double servo's?
@MotionRC

The mode and gain have 2 seperate ports, not sure where you see they aren't seperate? If you dont want to Y your ailerons, elevator etc, then this Gyro can't work. You need to step up to the a3pro (red one) or a3 super 3 (black one)

it'll be fine, the gyro has a capacitor to prevent voltage drop

@Shinobi117 2 года назад
What's the capacitor for? And it is necessary? I've flown all my planes without it and never experienced any problems. I'm worried whether I should or not.
@MotionRC
@MotionRC 2 года назад
Without a gyro, your servos will only move with stick inputs, but with a gyro, all the servos connected to it will be constantly working whether you have stick inputs or not. So the capacitor is there to make sure there is always a consistent voltage in the system (you can put the capacitor in an unused port on the gyro or receiver). Lets say you dropped gear, flaps and are moving all surfaces at the same time, you could get a dip in voltage and potentially lose signal without it

Hello Jim, I need to have my curiosity satisfied...You say in the video that the servo pins have to be facing the rear (AFT) of the plane. Merry Boozer says the same thing. However the manual say's and I quote ""You only need to ensure that the servo connector pins always point toward the front (or rear) of the plane"" So who is right?? FYI...I went by the manual and installed my A3-L in my Gosshawk with the pins facing forward and everything works as it should doing a preflight surface direction check on the bench. Thanks.
@MotionRC
@MotionRC 3 года назад
Well, truth be told, if you mount it backward (servo connections going into the gyro toward the rear of the aircraft) it should still work fine. Because its still just a matter of making sure all the directions correct properly. It shouldn't really matter as long as it is A. Level and B. Set for the orientation you want (horizontal or vertical)

You 100% fail to mention how to power the unit. In terms of what sequence to plug what and where and when to plug the battery in. Or even where to plug the battery in. If you do this in the wrong sequence, you will start a fire. I know because I started a fire. The only reason I’m watching this video is for the information that apparently it lacks: where do I plug in the battery?

You would use a multimeter that can check capacitance and compare the uF reading on the meter to the value printed on the cap.

You can set the gyro to on/off on a switch and trim it with the gyro off, or put the use the remote master gain on a knob and lower the gain all the way down to trim and then roll it back up

What about the A3 V2..? Without the 'L'. It has 3 pots.. I have managed to set it up by following your video but it was totally different??
@MotionRC
@MotionRC 4 года назад
We never sold the A3-v2, but the 3 pots on that version show pot 1 as normal gain, pot 2 as auto-balance gain, and pot 3 as auto-hover gain. So if you don't use the modes for pot 2 and 3 then just turn those pots all the way down and focus on pot 1 which, like the A3-L, will affect all surfaces (aileron, elevator and rudder)

the manual says to mount the gyro as close to the CG as possible. the position it was mounted in the video - is that close enough? has this model been flown successfully with the gyro in that position? thanks
@MotionRC

Yes, Closer to the CG is ideal, but I have never experienced any adverse effects from a gyro anywhere in the battery tray. And have flown with pilots who have put them up in the nose as well without issue.

I have programed the on off switch as shown with no problems, but I do not have a knob on my DX6 to control the gain. Can you please tell me how to set the gain using a three position switch so that I can change it to say 33% 66% or 100% of the gain set on the pot. None of the videos on Utube show this and it is not in the manual. Maybe a short video would be good for this or at least an explanation.Thanks in advanceJames, and thanks for the great video. Mike.
@MotionRC
@MotionRC 5 лет назад
I can make a video for you for sure. But quickly try this. So, as I say in the video. When you set your master gain on a knob or slider, the max gain will always be whatever the max gain you have set on the gain 1 pot on the front of the gyro itself. So I never make that pot more than 50% (haven't come across an aircraft needing that much). So instead of setting it to a knob, set it to a 3 position switch (as I do it in this video for the knob). Then, if you haven't changed the travel like I did to make the mode "on/off", then the travel of -100 will be 0, 0 would 25% or half what the gain on the pot is and 100 would be 50% or what the max gain on the pot is. Play with the travel of each position of switch to get to 33%, 66% and 100%. (let me know if this makes sense)
@sailor0500

Hi James. made settings -20, +40, and +100. Seems to give a nice progression of gain from about 40% of pot to 100% of pot setting. Thanks for your help. Mike.

Yes, as long as both servos are Y'd together going into the one elevator port than you are fine. It's when you want to run 2 elevator servos in 2 ports that you would want the A3 Super3 Gyro from Hobby Eagle

Just finished installing this today in a 1.5m 3D plane, Double checked all control surfaces, all gains were left standard, level calibration, ect, ect. Took off and couldn't control the plane at all, went up about 10m then smashed into the ground and into lots of pieces...to say i was pissed would be an understatement. But im willing to try a second time in something less expensive and smaller, as everyone else seems to be having success with this. Is there something simple im missing or haven't done? Feel free to comment guys.Much appreciated.
@MotionRC
@MotionRC 3 года назад
were the gain pots too high? There is no standard for gain pots as different aircraft require different gains. But you have to start on the low side, 15-20%. Then work your way up. Sounds like maybe the gain were too high for the aircraft so the gyro was overcorrecting making it almost uncontrollable. When set up right, these gyros are terrific, I have them in lots of models
@k1ortia
@k1ortia 3 года назад
@@MotionRC Yes iv heard and seen nothing but good things with these gyros. I made a mistake, i have the A3-V3 not the V2, but some thing. My gains were all set standard, in the 6 O, clock position. I didn't touch them at all. Im really determined to master this, i usually use i-nav or Ardupilot but for some calm park flying and stunts tha,ts just overkill. That,s why i bought one of these. So should i turn all the gains down to what looks like 3.45, Quarter to three and go from there? Cheers

Savez vous comment effectuer le câblage pour une aile delta ( 2 servos"aileron et élévateur ensemble" + un moteur électrique ) Do you know how to perform the wiring for a delta wing (2 servos "aileron and elevator together" + an electric motor)
@MotionRC
@MotionRC 3 года назад
Yes, at 19:42 we speak of the delta setup. Basically, you go into the 1st menu option and change the wing type to Delta. You plug your elevons into the aileron and elevator ports. The key is that you DO NOT have to change your transmitter to a delta setup as the gyro does all the work for you. Set your transmitter up as a normal (standard) aircraft. Just the gyro needs to be in the delta mode

This will work regardless of transmitter and receiver you have. You may not be able to have multiple functions on a switch, but you can certainly have just the gyro on all the time if you feel you need it. But eventually you should be thinking to upgrade your protocol

It will only work with this Gyro if you Y-Lead your Ailerons together. Simple and cheap. Or you can go with the A3 Super3 that uses either the laptop/desktop software or a programming card. Easy to install as well and has 5 ports for input channels from planes for just this. And no Y-lead needed.
