Great review - thanks. I really like the Tecton X and ran through 3 pairs now. The reason to trash them was always the outer layer ripping open around the pinkie toe area - always happened during hard technical downhills in tropical environments. So I am a bit worried to see an even lighter upper on the new version. The colors are weird - they had such a cool start with branding it as “ginger runner” and then went all disco on the colors. I’ll give the X2 a try if they have another color and if they rip open again, I’ll need to go and look for another brand-sock combo.

i'm a fan of matryx uppers since the SG evo, so yeah, happy to see it back on a hoka. still i might wait for the zinal 2 before i decide i wanna lash out €220, first pics look very promising to me so far.

Thanks for your review. Ran the first 125 miles of a 200 miler in the original Tecton X last November and only changed them out because my feet swelled a full size ;-) Just got the 2s and they seem to be an ever better shoe! And I agree: the midsole is softer. Reminds me of the EVO Mafate 2. I prefer both Tecton Xs to the Speedland GS:TAM.
@NateCrail
@NateCrail Год назад
What do you like better about the Tectons compared to the TAMs?
@TrailrunnerTroy
@TrailrunnerTroy Год назад
@@NateCrail besides the price? The plate doesn’t work for me in the TAMs; the plated ride feels too harsh. Whereas the TX2s have a smooth ride on everything from road to buffed trails to technical terrain. I also appreciate the comparative lower-to-the ground agility of the Hokas. Unlike the Speedland PDX, which is superbly well-balanced, the TAMs seem a bit wide to me in the technical stuff and a bit too high off the ground. Both are amazing shoes, but the TX2 feels more like an extension of my feet than the TAMs.

Great review on the comparison. Have the Challenger 7, want to try this one but the heavy price? thoughts on the Torrent 3. Thanks

Great review, Ryan! The Tecton X has been a really interesting shoe and not a ton of buzz about them, maybe because of SG and Mafate?? In any case, a plated trail shoe has its place and I’d love to give the new version a try!
@RyanClaytonFilms
@RyanClaytonFilms Год назад
Totally agree! Not the right shoe for everything, but definitely has it's place!

Fantastic review, I sincerely think I will get this v2 since I used to train and race with the ATR 6 which is such a heavy shoe and not so good for racing. Does the shoe feel heavy or is it compensated by the fact that the midsole is pretty responsive? Also it looks like the toe box was less narrow than the Speedgoat which is a shoe I was not looking at because of that and finally how does it compare to the Mafate s4?

Got a 47 mile ultra on hilly hopefully fairly dry trails grass, paths etc. I like my Tecton X but done most of my long training trail runs in the Hoka challenger 6. Just bought the challenger 7 in half size up as the 6 rubbed my toes and gave me a blister and a black toenail. Speed goat rubbed straight away and outsole wore quickly on outside edge. I might consider running in the Tecton now after your review but I’ll see how the new Challenger feels.
@RyanClaytonFilms

If you like the Challenger, you should try these too! Snappier with a similar fit 👌. Good luck in your race!

I liked the Tecton X version 1 a lot but the upper ripped out at the little toe joint location after 250 miles on each shoe. I kept running in them for another 100 miles simply to amortize the investment a bit more! Comfortable shoes though.

Same, but in less miles than you. I’m actually trying to go through a warranty appeal as its pretty unacceptable

Looking at your videos and shoes, it seems that you don't use the Stryde sensor anymore. Is this really the case, or you have been using it for over 3 years consistently ? Do you still think it is useful and something to be bothered about or Polar's native power improved that much, that it is comparable ? Maybe you reverted back to splits, gradients and distance ? More organic ? Thanks

HI, in the first version I found an ineffective heel lock, especially when running uphill. Do you think that in the second version they improved this aspect? Too bad the sole has remained the same and they have not improved the grip as in the new version of Zinal. I found a very ineffective mud grip. Thanks.

Is there enough cushion in the Tecton for a baby ultra (50k) single track and grassy trails? Trail shoe decisions are tough.

NIce review, been waiting for this. $225, however, gulp. Might be worth it for that Matryx upper tho. Better drainage?!

Most definitely going to have better drainage!! Very excited about his weather runs, and/or stream crossings

@@RyanClaytonFilms oh and those padded heel areas, I think (hot take), are for when you are moving through taller rocks and you DON'T want to bruise your ankle bones. Also on the MafSpeed4... - I found it useful on some technical running last week on the MafSp4

First I’ve seen about V2, thanks for this. The lace-to-toe of V1 was the only issue I’d found. Nice to see they went with something closer to the SG. Wish they’d kept the weight lower but that’s not a huge difference. Thanks Ryan!
@RyanClaytonFilms

Yeah it was kinda odd on the V1, thanks Chad!

is the lockdown better than v.1? for me v.1 was good but I was unable to get a real good lockdown on top of the foot (especially towards the front)
@RyanClaytonFilms
@RyanClaytonFilms Год назад
Yeah the lace design is better this time around. There is more of a gap over the tongue too, so you can pull it tighter
