Welcome to another Episode of Ross Reviews AU on this weeks Video we take out this 2009 Special Edition Holden Commodore SSV "Pontiac G8".. with essentially only visual modifications done to this model.. Front Bumper, Bonnet, Boot Spoiler & Headlights.. its safe to say if you love commodores you will love this.. but do you think it looks better??

hey Ross. This car was available in South Africa as Chevrolet Lumina. Its an amazing car and always a joy to hear it on the highway and that deep V8 around the mall. One of the best thing about V8 cars is that even slow acceleration sounds nice. Love the car. Good video

Technically Pontiac G8 GT or even GXP. Back in North America we would love to swap the Holden front, whereas in Australia it can be the other way around. I haven’t yet got a chance to drive the GT, but instead the base SV6 from local dealership in Toronto 🫢

Interesting review of the Pontiac G8, Ross. I don’t see many of these cars on the road. Not sure if I like the front end all at much. Buts it’s still a nice car overall. I love the sound it. The 0-100km was pretty good but would better with some bigger tyres. It sounds like it’s pretty rough to ride in with 22 inch wheels. It would be a very good buy for someone. Thanks for the review.

Great review... Not sure on whether I love or hate the front end and the exhaust pops, but it certaintly looks different and it's certainly fast... One thing I would do if I bought this car is swap the wheels back to stock S1 SSV, as they look tough... I've also seen G8 front ends on orange and green SSV's...

Hey Ross, I’ve got the exact same car in the exact same color. I’ve put an SS boot spoiler on. Had a cold air intake system fitted. Also had a 2.5” walkinshaw cat back exhaust fitted. It now has 302 kw. It’s a 2010. I’m the second owner. I’ve had it for 10 years. It’s only done 54000 km. I absolutely love it!

Manual ss is a must and with a cam its the best way to get the most out of it. Having a 5.7L vz ss six speed with a BTR stage 3 cam and a few other goodies really gives it a breath of life

This thing is just on another level with the sound lol & I love it apart from not being100% keen on that front end & those rims are too big I'd have 19's on it,but it's still a bloody beast of course & I thoroughly enjoyed the review thank you brother.

Like them? I too was unsold on the look until I bought my black G8 wagon. Now I love it cos it's not the same as so many other VE's out there. 22's nah, I put mine on 20' VL replicas. Great cars.

Now my S2 SS has small crow cam, along with just full 2.5" exhausts and VCM otr, making 320rwkw on the dyno and 535Nm

The headlights should be the SSV projectors, I've never seen one with the reflector lenses. Must've been changed at some point.

@@RossReviewsau In fact our Chevrolet Omega is a more quiet version than SV6, not sporty. Our Chevrolet Omega has the same engine as SV6 but in a more similar configuration of Calais. The latest version that arrived here in Brazil was MY11 with 3.6L Alloytec V6 engine and automatic transmission. Moved to gasoline. The next year's model MY12 with E85 ethanol-powered engine has never arrived here for us.

Funny how a lot of us in the US go out of our way to put HSV front end on our G8. Thing seems awesome but the HSV front looks better. That needs a brake upgrade too. Still awesome.

_For what it’s worth I have a friend who recently had his VE SSV engine completely rebuilt, including virtually the same mods (maybe a slightly milder cam) and his 6.0ltr now puts down 410whp_ 🤷🏻‍♂️

I've got the 2009 same colour. But I've got the pontiac rims. Just wondering if it makes it more valuable ? All original , except the sweet exhaust. It was past down to me from my family. It mostly sits in the garage. Just trying to find more information about the value . Could anyone help me , that's in the know.

I think the "Special Edition" is a fun bit of history - the looks aren't to my taste, but it's not ugly. The cam and the manual transmission definitely makes this something special - the wheels really need to go in the bin though - IMO of course.

Do think it looks good myself, that lip spoiler & front bumper. It was just a way for holden to clear out the remaining G8 bodyparts at the time, since pontiac went down the tubes back when sadly. Could even say it came to be in the same way somewhat as the XC Cobra, where it was made to clear out the remaining XC Falcon coupe bodyshells at the time. And yes, as for the G8 front bumper, would even be something i wouldn't be against having on my 2007 SSV Ute myself too.

I'm assuming if they did make more than 1500 of them it wouldn't have been much more, these must be very rare. I've only ever seen one other and that was a ute, don't actually know if it was a G8 edition or just an SS just with a G8 front end.

Booooo!....no dyno sheet😕 Hmmm... personally,I really don't like the front end,but also the horrible "ripping" back pressure noise from the exhaust,it's terrible. Plus, 22s? Ugh,stuff that. Sounds sweet on the power though and the lumpy idle....oh, and ofcourse the three pedals haha I seriously gotta show you my VE bro!

Holden fan and SS Redline owner here. Can’t stand these. Extremely ugly and ruined the look of the car. Shame the Aussie market had to suffer the fate having these spare part specials.
