The right's anti union sentiments are so bizarre. My dad is a far right conservative with abhorrent views on most things, but as a lineman he belongs to a powerful union and is very in favor of them. Even he, a man that easily buys into right wing talking points, doesnt see the logic in the common working man being anti union.

@mana256k you'd think so, but most conservatives are so fucking stupid that they apparently don't. Yknow, because they're anti union.

I can understand/help! My grandad is anti union and he had my mom under that for a while, with the reasoning being mostly "they take your money and keep the company from firing people that should be fired." It's an uninformed, and for him I'd even say malicious, view of workers rights. (My mom is now pro union, and my grandad still sucks)

My grampa started his own construction business after immigrating here from Mexico and he is vehemently anti union so that sentiment was just kinda drilled into my dad and uncles heads and by extension mine. Like I get that they exist for a positive reason but the ones around here at least are pretty shitty to everybody that's relatively new at the union

I find it’s a lot of people who say “you have to pay for it and it does nothing” because they have no idea what the union is doing and has been doing. They just legit do not know that the job security or benefits they have are BECAUSE of the union. They assume it would be there regardless

Jordan mentioning Bipolar medication is so true. It took so long of throwing things at the wall until we tried Lithium. Was always worried about side effects but getting to my dosage I was truly like "Oh, this is how a person functions... Interesting." Also I feel like so many of us being like "My experience with physical and mental health was a mess until I realized my experience WAS different from the norm and went to a doctor" is a result of growing up in a culture of "Everyone deals with that. Everyone get's tired shut up."

My college apartment is a mystery of things wrong. In the past year we had; ants (twice), spiders, wasps, a detached wall that had asbestos behind it, a broken toilet at one point, a door with a dollar worth of quarters gap around the whole thing (door was replaced and then wouldn’t shut if the sun was shining on the door). And in February and March our heat went out 6 times, always on the weekend and always when it snowed, they ‘fixed it’ and we got the genuinely strangest interactions we’ve ever had because of it. I go to school in Rochester New York 💀 it would be Impressive if it wasn’t so annoying and problematic. Edit: found out our pipes are covered in lead 🥲

Depending on the definition working/middle class is often more about education and the type of job a person has, so working class people aren't necessarily poor. A welder is a tradesperson who derives their income from wage labour, so they're working class by most definitions, but an underwater welder working for an oil company can have a six digit income. These are definitions that keep changing with time and the political aims of whoever is doing the defining, for example originally "upper class" just meant "royalty and nobility".
@earthavi
@earthavi 10 месяцев назад
@@kdc6002Like the previous responses pointed out, defining working class really depends on your views on labor, economic status, and the relationship between those two. For example, I primarily subscribe to the Marxian theory that there are two primary economic classes: the bourgeoisie, who own the means of production and buy others’ labor power, and the proletariat, who sell their labor power

All DIY electrical work needs to be done when the stuff you're working on is de-energized (turned off at the breaker panel). And always keep in mind that minor mistakes with electrical work can easily cause house fires/bodily harm/property damage/death. Online home repair/improvement videos are usually great, but too often people skip vitally important safety steps. Electricity travels at the speed of light, is invisible, can travel through connecting objects, and can kill at levels far lower than what powers your home, please be careful.

The conversation about what is an actual medical condition and what is just an event in your life is really interesting and I think as an AFAB person I could add more to this conversation because to all that confusion you have to add the fact that on a monthly basis your hormones change soo much and you might never realise something is up because you'll just assume it's because of the hormones OR you might think that something is wrong with you and then never think that it might be connected to your cycle. Also an important context is that A LOT of medical issues in AFAB women are ignored and brushed off as just "feminine health stuff" and never looked into, at least in my and my close friends' experiences here in Europe.
@badger6882
@badger6882 11 месяцев назад
I really do think you have a point here. So much of my body and well-being ends up being influenced by my menstrual cycle. It’s niche and strange, but I’ve had hella spiritual experiences at certain times in the month and it’s kind of surreal to know it’s just because of hormone levels and baseline biological shifts. not really talked about really how people react to different medication, too.
@juliar6647
@juliar6647 10 месяцев назад
@badger6882 thank you for sharing your experience! It's crazy how little research there is on different conditions in relation to menstruation. There is some, don't get me wrong, but It's considered a fresh field of studies which is insane considering menstruation is nothing new lmao

I HAVE NARCOLEPSY TOO (type 2, without cataplexy)! I finally got the doctors to give me a sleep study after two years of complaining of the exact things Demi described. I feel like, if they made sleep studies more common/more accessible, narcolepsy would be a lot more common. I was 23 when I got diagnosed and it's so relieving to at least KNOW what it is. 1:11:21 My Pepere, who turned 70 yesterday!!, is one of the cool ones! He has always been extremely supportive of everything my brother or I have ever done. Him and Gram (his wife) were the only family members that automatically accepted me when I came out as trans, everyone else were/are against it and tried to make me "change my mind". Ever since I came out him and gram have taught themselves so much about the LGBTQ+ community. One of my favorite examples of this was when I got a call from Gram because she had heard the term 'non-binary' on the news and wanted to get a better understanding of what it meant. Another moment that sticks out is when Pepere called me on June 1st a few years ago to tell me that the month of June is Pride month!!! He was so excited to share this with me, which I found funny because he knew that the year prior I had gone to NYC for World Pride Parade lol. All my friends love him and Gram so much, they call him "our Pepere", a role he gladly accepted. I love him with all of my heart. So to all the people in the older generations who say they're stuck in their ways and can't possibly change now are total liars.

glad to hear you guys are pursuing getting sleep studies done! really wish sleep studies were more of a standard test any time someone complains about fatigue but for some reason general physicians don't seem to think about sleep much despite it being one of the most important processes for humans to live. also always awesome to see more narcolepsy representation, it's such a misunderstood condition so it's great to see people talk about their experiences. the good place was one of my comfort shows when i was seeking my diagnosis so it's kind of cool to know one of the writers was going though the same thing (as much as it sucks and i don't wish it on anyone haha)

Hey Jarvis, sleep apnea related to mouth breathing is when your throat stops you from breathing while you're asleep for extended durations. Not enough to kill you (although it can) but it's depriving your brain of oxygen repeatedly overnight. Look into getting a CPAP! I have a deviated septum and it helped immensely with both fatigue and even grinding my teeth. Sleep study is great too

Bro, the “language barrier” bit. There was a storm that blew through FL that knocked a bunch of fencing down around the neighborhood. I saw my neighbor putting up some fencing, so I went to help. Russian. Spoke maybe 3 English words. I, bilingual, and neither blessed with the Russian language, spoke maybe 1. He pulled out his phone and google translated something to the tune of “just follow me”, and we basically point-spoke to each other for, I’d say, an hour or two, putting up the fencing he’d lost on the part of the property adjacent to mine. Finished up, we thanked each other, and the fence has been decent enough since. Let me tell you, those first few minutes of trying to get each other up to speed on how we were going to communicate? Genuine mini-sitcom. Not over-the-top-haha funny, but just that mundane futzing you can’t help but chuckle at.

I'm undergoing treatment at the moment through the TMJ Sleep Therapy Centre. They have locations all over so maybe look into a TMJ and Sleep Apnea specialist in your area if you feel like you experience those kinds of symptoms!

I was listening to this on Apple Podcasts but I had to come here to comment once you started talking about narcolepsy. I’m 24, and since high school I’ve been falling asleep when I definitely shouldn’t be. In class, in the movie theatre, sometimes standing up… I’m a dancer so I see a lot of live performances and feel AWFUL because I fall asleep during these beautiful shows but I just can’t help it. I’ve always attributed it to different things, and kinda joked that it could be narcolepsy. I only seriously started considering it a few months ago, but I always gaslight myself into thinking it’s not “bad enough” to pursue. Hearing your experience was so validating and empowering. You probably won’t see this but thank you so much for sharing 🙏

i quit adderall about 3 months ago after being on it on and off since 4th grade and i feel amazing. like i feel the best i have in my life. i’m taking a non narcotic non stimulant adhd med called strattera i tried it in the past and even set my negative opinions aside to try it again, i feel so much more clear headed , no more mood swings and energy crashes throughout the day and i’m not depressed!!!

I don't know how much I can say, but in the states there is so much struggle in the medical system. I'm glad to hear at least in the UK folks are trying. I cried at work yesterday and I only do office stuff. Hospitals are over working nurses then laying them off! And it is genuinely criminal how low doctors in training are paid. Even well paid doctors have talked about taking pay cuts so they can retain more staff but the hospital systems won't allow it. And there is more issues with quality care and safety. Everyone is genuinely upset and trying to make it better, but its hard when there is just so much weight. Thats why we need unions, we can be strong for each other.

i watched this a bit ago but wanted to come back to comment this: hearing Demi's experience with narcolepsy made me horrified because it mirrored my own experiences so much, so i was looking into any sleep tests i could find- but i was also really lucky to already have an ADHD appointment on the horizon. after my appt (not surprised- definitely have ADHD) and after getting on medication i have noticed a scary huge reduction in my unavoidable dozing off at my desk at work/inability to stay awake at times no matter how much sleep i've gotten. still need to do a sleep test, but symptoms are helped now! thank you SO much for this vid, the guests you guys have, and your channel. if not for this, i wouldn't have known that i might also have narcolepsy (which i now suspect is probably caused by my chronic illness) thank you thank you!

Been a fan of demi since episode 1 of gilmore guys. So excited to see this collab! Also I have extemely unrefreshing sleep. I had a sleep study but it was normal which doesn't make any sense to me. I have severe hypersomnia and always feel incredibly tired yet wired. Feels like I haven't slept in 4 years 💀

this podcast continues to be painfully relatable when it comes to living with physical health conditions hh i have narcolepsy/hypersomnia .. it is textbook narcolepsy, but i have 'too many health problems to have narcolepsy; it's narcolepsy when you have a vanilla health record' and it's one of my most disabling conditions !! constant fatigue, sleepiness, sleep-drunkenness/sleep inertia, brain fog, etc. is so hard to manage. and omg i describe that sleep study as narcoleptic torture .. i was literally walking around in circles in my room watching the time go by so slowly and being so goddamn tired, and then they let you sleep and it's heavenly .. for like 20 minutes and you have to do it all again ... great study for results and diagnoses, but felt a bit hellish :p

I feel like the best response that the bagel guy could’ve had was to do a TikTok saying something along the lines of “haha, you fell for my ploy! I wanted to promote a great restaurant because of the great bagel I had! Now they will be more popular than they ever could’ve before!” regardless of whether that actually was his intention or not. He could play it off as a joke by doing a silly voice or something. Not saying that what he did warranted any harassment of course, just that this would be such a fun way to end the situation.

Hey at least be thankful you can take medications safely.. Im pretty damn sure i have ADHD, but cant use any of these medications because I'm also an addict on top of that. And like i feel like society kinda leaves people like me in the dust. Like i cant take adderall or vyvanse or ritalin. So now society's not gonna give me any alternative. and everyone seems to either have an opinion of "oh you have adhd so it's totally ok for you to take adderall" or they have the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality. Neither of which is even remotely helpful to me. Sorry if this seems like a rant. But nobody ever talks about the issue of addicts not getting the help they need for coexisting disorders

This obviously applies even moreso to pain patients who cant take pain meds because of a prior addiction. Theyre just kinda left to suffer

Reading this made me incredibly sad. They shouldn’t be able to tell you no to getting medicated when you’re diagnosed with it. They could easily just do random checks on you to make sure you’re not using it to relapse. I’m so sorry and I can’t even become close to knowing how much you must suffer every day. Life is already hard enough.

I'm terribly sorry to see you in this predicament. You want to get better and want to do the work, but there are barriers to care 🥺 I hope you can get access to therapy, someone who knows a lot about ADHD to help you live as best you can even if you don't have the meds 🙏❤️ praying for you, keep strong!

@@katc2040 do you not hear how regressive what youre saying is? "Oh we dont know the answer yet so you just have to deal with it." We should be looking for alternatives for people like me, or finding a way to make these medications safer. The medical field progresses rapidly. Youre attitude is the kind i mentioned in my original post

I have narcolepsy and central sleep apnea. Had the exact same experience with my first sleep study (hit REM within 4 seconds with each nap) and the adderall shortage has made life hell. Currently taking provigil (again) but it doesn’t work nearly as well.

Words make writers come alive. Writers who breathe stars into media. Even if all in pictures, hidden are thousands. Corporates will often fall default to banks. Directions altered to fit new standards. Writers watch as scripts are worshiped, burned. Words are symbols of revolutions. Revolutions breathe new life into old stars. Stars that shine far beyond our bickering. Without words, humanity is doomed. In short phrases, alone, we save ourselves. Writers watch the world as it echoes: hope.
