At 05:15, "Thank You" Oh no, *Thank YOU!* For uploading this! As a *United States born citizen,* of *African extraction,* I was *amazed and very touched,* to see *Black Men proudly serving in a Scottish Regiment!* *Makes me wish I was Forty Years younger! With two good legs to walk with!*
I'm an old POS VIETNAM VET ! But to this day every time i hear those pipes i miss my scott brothers that died in that war. Sorry i cant text due to the tears coming out my eyes and my soul hurts for them. Lord bless them not me but them . SEMPER FI !
May they rest in a place beyond pain where no shadows fall and may the lord bless you, too. Thank you for remembering them and reminding us of the true cost of war: lives.
Never has Scotland the Brave made me cry before! But I know that no matter how much it moves me (as a Canadian) to hear it, it means something very special for everyone in this video when they hear it. A very proud moment captured here, in a long proud & illustrious history of the Scots people. Alba gu bràth!
You should see/hear the Royal Marines parade. For my money the best in the world - bands, pipes, drums uniforms, and marching. They do pompous circumstances the best of anyone.
bessie1854, Marine, let me rephrase that for you! You are first and foremost “A FORMER ACTIVE DUTY UNITED STATES OF AMERICA MARINE “! You earned that title and the right to wear it as have your Fellow Brother and Sister Marines since the beginning of OUR proud and esteemed Elite Fighting Force! Now let’s raise a proper tankard of great American Whiskey and SAY IT PROUD AND SAY IT LOUD SEMPER FIDELIS TO ONE AND ALL TILL THE END OF TIME! (or at least until we all fall of our stools)!!! I Know I’m Proud of my fellow Marines as well as I am to have earned the right and distinction to wear the title “UNITED STATES MARINE”! As a patch on my pilot’s nylon flight jacket proudly proclaims “I’m sure to go to Heaven because I’ve done my time in Hell”. That statement is as accurate today as it was during the Vietnam War! And Korea, WW II, WW I and down to OUR inception! Playing it Forward! The Entire Middle East! In the Future, GOD HIMSELF will only know what SHIT HOLE BATTLEGROUND HE’LL THROW AT US!!! My active duty stint in our Beloved Corps began when I had the honor of graduating from MCRD San Diego along with the rest of my Brother Marines holding our platoon standard high proclaiming to one and all that THE UNITED STATES MARINES OF PLATOON 347 were leaving Our Mark on the World! While I went on to numerous”Boot Camps” becoming a NAVAL AVIATOR and F4 Phantom Pilot, I was no more nor any less than my platoon mates of Platoon 347. Sure I added some more platoons to that list, Aviation Officers Candidate 2nd Lieutenant, Radar Intercept Officer I. The rear cockpit of an F4. But before that! Some asshole admin clerk made sure that I was properly indoctrinated as a first and foremost 0300 Marine Corps infantry Officer! PLATOON LEADERS COURSE here I was! After all that, I could finally hold my head high and shoulders back, knowing that I was finally an “OFFICER OF MARINES”. So Brothers and Sisters just remember you’re not the only Marine that shed Blood, Sweat and Tears to eRn that illustrious title of UNITED STATES MARINE! I swear that the penning of this motivational tirade, I could Actually Hear The Entire Marine Corps Hymn playing in my mind! I do have an proper explanation for it, In this writing I did consume two bottles of Baileys Irish Cream Liquor! It’s a Marine Corps Naval Aviator thing! As an Air Force Major once stated at the officers mess at DaNang airbase in 1966, “All You Are is a Rowdy bunch of drunken College Fraternity brothers wearing pilots wings” me, being our squadron official “Wise Ass” reminded said Major that there was a very good reason that Naval Aviators both Navy And Marine earned the distinction of wearing Gold Wings while Army and Air Force pilots only got to wear Silver Wings. That being WE BOTH TAKE OFF AND LAND ON AIRCRAFT CARRIERS IN ROUGH SEAS. IT TAKED SKILL AND TOTAL INSANITY TO LAND ON A WET, PITCHING AND YAWING FLIGHT DECK ON A SHIP THAT ISDOING ITS ABSOLUTE BEST TO KICK YOUR ASS AND KEEL HAUL YOU! Ladies and Gentlemen, at that point, you could have heard a pin drop! Then, said Major raised his glass and uttered “One and All, A toast to ALL Naval Aviators They Are A Breed Above Us Mere Mortals” arhat Sumbitch brought a tear to everyone’s eyes that was there! This was a TRUE STORY! Now, back to you Marine, you carry that title proudly to your grave and NEVER tarnish or sully the title! SEMPER - FI!!! Former Active Duty Captain and proud fighter/attack pilot USMC Arthur R. Tafil USMC! I’m 72+ years young now and I still hold my head high and my shoulders squared away “ Just Remember These Words, NOT AS LEAN, JUST AS MEAN, HERE STANDS A FORMER ACTIVE DUTY MARINE”!
@@rmac8378 If they are not Scots, then why is the regiment referred to as 2nd Battalion The Regiment of Scotland and why are they marching through the streets of Glasgow? If they were Brits, wouldn't they be marching through the streets of London? //es//A Veteran US Navy and US Army, Viet Nam Era and 1st Gulf War
@@ShellyAnn1a Anyone from any country can join the so called “Scottish regiments”. Stuff like this is just to make the BritScots feel like they’re scottish and to indoctrinate young people. Some might be from Scotland but scottish is an identity, not a legal standing nationality. People that join the british army are british minded, not scottish. Also brits have been marching through scottish cities for centuries now
@@ShellyAnn1a The Scottish regiments are in the British Army ! Which inturn is all British Army regiments & forces are trained & paid & part of the British army !!! Which is all part of United kingdom armed forces !! The Royal Marines have a base in Scotland they march through & other British troops march fhrough parts of Scotland as well as Scottish regiments !!! The Royal navy patrol the north sea & chase off Russian warships & submarines trying to enter Britains territory waters & airspace with the Royal airforce escourting them out ... That guy (@ R Mac) complaining who they are is really pathetic anti British/English
This is how you should welcome brave soldiers home with pride, passion and respect. I'm English and it makes my blood boil that protesters are allowed to call the defenders of this country murderers and baby killers on their return home. This was a joy to watch and England sort your priorities out.
captain caveman: You mean like the the Scots/Brits who ended widow-burning in India? ...and outlawed the slavery Africans had been selling each other into? ...and built infrastructure all over India? ...and taught the natives of India how to be engineers and architects? ...and made productive farms in South Africa, where natives had failed? ...and turned a vast expanse of frozen howling wilderness into a thriving wealthy nation called Canada, which third-worlders (lacking the Scots/Brit industriousness and innovation) now invade in vast numbers to leech from? Those Scots?
I didn't think I liked the sound of pipes - but I love them, when Scots play with such emotion and heart. And the precise marching, they look like 1 long caterpillar wending down the street! So handsome, and tough. Welcome to your home! From US.
I'm english but i'm proud when i see the scottish warriors we have in our ranks. Imagine hearing this in the distance back in the day if you were an enemy solider the sound of bagpipes meant you were about to die!
My grandfather always said if you wanted a position taken in a battle you let the Scots or the Canadians loose on it. If you wanted the whole battle put the two of them together. Proud to be Canadian and proud of my heritage. "There is nothing older, unless the hills, MacArthur and the devil."
I remember reading a quote from an Aussie officer in WW1 where he said that he always wanted to be posted next to a Highland battalion because they were the most merciless killers he'd ever seen, and that's who you want on your flank in combat. I've seen this kind of spirit among the many ex-pat Scots I've known out in California. No combat here I'm happy to say, but certainly I've seen my share of discussions get heated in a hurry and the distance between "No, just a moment here, it wasn't like that!" and "Ah'm gonna rip yer face off!" was pretty short. :-D
Well your dad was right. Because my dad fought in Sicily with 48 th Highlanders of Canada which me and my brother did. My dad told me 1thing Germans fear the most was any highland regiments from Canada or Scotland because they didn't back down
@@stuartandrews2808 read a memoir of a German soldier a few years ago, his take on the pipes was that when you heard them you knew it was going to be a bad day.
Here is the funny thing years ago when I young I met Japanese family they said they visited Scotland and amazed at the culture they said it seemed very unique and fancy. This coming from a family that has a really cool culture. Europe a many wonderful cultures.
As an American, I wish we welcomed our soldiers home like this. They deserve and have earned every ounce of pomp and circumstance. What a better country we would be if we did that. Love it 🍻
this march is so powerful and majestic!so,if you are a true patriot, no matter where do you live on this planet , you'll like it for sure.cheers from Hungary!
We have protestors waiting at the airports causing all kinds of problems. This was awesome to see. This is how soldiers should be welcomed home. I'm an American but just found out that my father's side of the family is from Scotland. Very proud of my heritage.
>We have protestors waiting at the airports causing all kinds of problems. Really? where and what problems exactly? let me clue you in here; in a DEMOCRACY people have a right to express their views, even if they dont fit with yours. Once you start restrciting those, then you're on difficult grouns. As an example, I'd like to restric Donald Trump from ever opening his mouth ever again...
@@redcardinalist I’ll give you that, that restriction sets a precedent. However, just because you can express your views doesn’t mean you should. Especially when those troops have seems unimaginable horrors; the last thing they want is to be demonized by their own countrymen
@@alexrastall1868 You actually both do have good points. Because "in a DEMOCRACY people have a right to express their views, even if they dont fit with yours" and "just because you can express your views doesn’t mean you should" are equally true - it's the job of democracy to maintain a stable balance between such views, and the job of armies of democratic countries to defend them.
I served on this tour with 2 SCOTS. By far one of the saddest things I've witnessed was watching an OC Company tell his guys that their mates had been killed in that infamous Mastiff IED strike. I'll never forget the silence. Great battalion.
Thank you 2nd Battalion The Regiment of Scotland (2 Scots). You deserve this day and parade and you did yourselves proud. It was an excellent show. Us Aussies will always share a trench with you because we know what good soldiers you are. Of course we'll take the piss, but you would too :)
> Of course we'll take the piss, but you would too :) As an old soldier myself (former Austrian Army NCO, now Austrian TA), I say taking the piss out of each other in a friendly manner is an equally honorable and obligatory military tradition as is always having each others backs when it is necessary. :-)
You could cut me in half and find English written inside like a stick of rock , but credit where credit is due the Scots are magnificent thank God they are part of the British Army.
Proud to be by your side. Though we may have had our differences. England and scotland will stand strong! Overwhelming sense of pride no matter what parade im watching
When I served in the British Army in the 70s I had the pleasure and pride to serve alongside two Scots. Two finest men you could ever wish to meet, they had my back and I had theirs. I was born in England but my heart belongs to Scotland. God bless you all.
Sadly, as a military man, I met my English wife in Sweden where she was a teacher. Married in Alva, Scotland. We had 3 sons born in England & 1 in N.Ireland. After 27 years active service emigrated to Canada with all family & our big dog ! Wife hates the pipes, the kilt, Scotland, all Scots (inc. me) & managed to translate that hate to 2 of the boys. Yet my boys (two of whom still wear the kilt & align themselves as Scottish, born in England only because of my military duty. ) Three of my sons visit me here in Canada & they are always welcome at my family homes in Scotland. However the reverse is not true 2 of us are not welcome in wife's home. We are still married but separated for over 20 yrs, will not divorce as she is entitled to my military pension on my death, so she is hanging on to me for that purpose, she is 10 years younger than me ! Calculating just like the Meghan Markle Duchess ! Hope to outlive her but no hatred from me. I still have many friends (salt of the earth) including, ex-in-laws in England.
@David Millar He wasn't talking about the kilt when he said dress...... he was talking about what the liberals are focused on, not referring to the kilt at all.
My father was RSM in 2nd battalion, his father before him. Served 25+ year.s and he would have been so proud of this. I am biased but the 2nd battalion are a force to be reckoned with 12.9.1923 - 1.9.1975 RIP
Soldiers certainly learn discipline all right. I've watched the video for the song "White China" by Ultravox. Those Chinese soldiers are also very disciplined.
DO not mix british and Scottish ..... Thats something that will spark anger. They are trianed together but they are different because they are different countries.
This makes me so proud to be Scottish- I'm not but I wish I was when I see this. We English are not allowed to celebrate our nationality- if we do we are labled as racist, jingoistic or zenophobic or all three!!
No wonder I had no friends, I'm english Irish Welch Scottish German Hungarian Jew. The Jewish called me a nazi and the Germans called me a Jew. But as a kid I drove only English cars.and can repair them from top to bottom. Bagpipes makes me want to dance.
Join the club brother... I'm a yank. To those of that mindset, I say PISS OFF! What makes America exceptional is not that we're better, it's that we believe that our rights are God given, NOT government granted.
Nothing more impressive, smarter, or formidable than Highlanders on the march with the P & D's at their head. Awesome sight and sound. God Bless the Scots- finest infantry soldiers in the world. *RESPECT* from England!
Nothing quite like the soldiers from the British Isles! And this is coming from a proud niece of a US Marine! And some of the best uniforms in the world!
For some reason I feel irritated by the people running back and forth across the road, right in front of the marching troops... Like, I know they want photos but jeez, pick a spot and stay there lol
Me too,it would only take one these undisciplined fools to trip up and fall......I hate to think of the mess............. they should be arrested and held in a paddy wagon out of harms way until the parades over..
You already have it. Many Universities, Colleges, Fire & Police depts have kilted Pipe Bands. President Kennedy chose the Army Black Watch Pipes & Drums for his funeral procession. My son was married to his wonderful (Buffalo) bride in Las Vegas, he wore his own full Highland outfit, still does on special occasions. As does my other son, Stuart who lives in Wales. PS, because of my military service my 4 sons were born in England, 3 + 1 in N.Ireland.
I am an American stationed in NKC U.S Army ( New Kabul Compound ) Kabul Afghanistan and I was honored to be stationed with a Scottish Contingent, great lads although I did have a hard time understanding their english, nevertheless, it was an honor, I left to go home as my time was up, I can only say I pray all these lads came home safely. 2015 - 2016 To my Scottish Contingent, remember this, we are Brothers, from the American Army........................
SAOR ALBA GU BRAH Here's to the men of the Scottish Division From the time the world began. And here's to the Pipes and Drums as they march Each man to serve his Clan. Remember the Seaforths, the Camerons, the Argylls, The Black Watch, the Gordons with their cocky wee smiles, The Cameronians, The Royal Scots and the KOSB, The HLI, the Greys and the Bold Fusilier with a glint in his eee'. Think of their honours, in battles they have won, Think of the fathers, the brothers, the sons, Think of the scars that we cannot see, And the lands far away, that they have set free. Now Honour these men from the present to the past, With great pride in your heart and thoughts that will last.
I grew up singing this and the Skye Boat Song, accompanied by my Nan on the piano. I was born in England. So was my mum and my nan. My great-nan used to go to Edinbourgh every summer.
The Great Scotland, brave and proud,, firmly anchored ont it’s traditions and way of living should continue to resist to preserve them from the English domination . Support from French friend
Beautiful! Tradition, honor and discipline. We have to be proud of our armies and everything they have done and still do for us! The world has to stop supporting the useless SJWs and the politically correct! Let's go back to the original beauty of our Nations!
@@GandalftheWise You are definitely right. However, don’t forget the other forces which joined the US Army on this campaign. That’s included also Brazil . We fought in your side in Italy against that bastard call Mussolini
what a sight to behold, no other forces on the planet could even come close to marching Scottish soldiers led by the pipes and drums, what a magnificent sight, Scotland forever, Jim Bergin.

Got to agree Steve, we appear to be governed by hand wringing people who were always last to be picked for the playground football team. Sort it out this is/was not called Great Britain by chance.
Red over White Hackles? Really? As much respect as I have for the Jock regiments, where does that come from? That's an ENGLISH battle honour. AFAIK there weren't any Jocks @ St Lucia in 1778 when the Hackle was adopted
Not sure why that one platoon has to have their march called out to them. I've never had to be told "Left, Right, Left, Right" since I first learned parade. They're all wearing a red sash too. Maybe that has something to do with it I dunno.
They're all away back from the band and can't hear the time and I'm thinking that they're reservists. The echo from the other side of the Shannon used to play havoc with our step
