As a Canadian with similar laws I find it sickening that a government would charge and jail someone for the natural human right of self defense! Literally being punished for not dying like an obedient victim while most times the attacker will get less jail time for attempted murder

Nothing against bows and arrows per se, but perhaps people should speculate more about the purpose of restricting firearms in their country to a level where they (the establishment) allow you (in practice) to only own crossbow and stuff like that for your self-defense. My neighbor who’s 36 years young & has a pre teen son had her house broken into by some drug up guy lucky for her , her son was not home at the time , but she’s a avid hog hunter & my hog hunting partner & archery teacher , I’m 12 years older then her , but back to my story one morning she had this guy break into her house & she heard him rummaging through her house down stairs she was in her bedroom & at that time she didn’t have her firearms in the house & the only thing she had was a recurve bow that was 40 pounds @ 28 inches & some hunting arrows with sharp broad heads . She quickly strong her bow & waited for the guy to walk up the steps . When he rounded the bottom part of the steps she took aim & waited for the guy to walk up a few steps . When he did she let go & send a arrow down the steps . As usual the guy was startled & took off & she quickly called the police . When the police got there I heard them pull up in front of her & my house & went outside to see what was going on . The police told her to stay outside so they could clear her house wile they do so . Wile standing there a woman police officer was asking her question & a few minutes later a officer came out & said that the guy must have cut himself really bad because there was a blood trail out the back door leading to the back alleyway behind are houses . They track the blood 300 foot or more through the Alleyway & into some bushes where they found the guy dead shot through the right side just under his rib cage & if you know what’s behind all of the skin & bone under that side of the rib cage it’s the liver . Apparently she shot the guy & the arrow went clean through & stuck in her wall . No charges were filed on her & the police told her that the guy had a criminal record dating back to when he was 14 for breaking & entering . I’m glad I’m friends with her & I wouldn’t want to be on the other side of anything she shoots that’s for dam sure .

Excellent points Joerg, and your comments about home invasion and the 'accidental burglar', reminded me of what a long-time friend who for 30 years was the superintendent of a large U.S. prison. He advisedly father, and me after my father was kidnapped and robbed that if intruders enter your home when you are home, there is a good chance they know you are there and may kill you. If their identity is concealed they may be just there to rob or rape, but if they enter your home unmasked and fearless they likely intend on leaving you dead. The burglars who kidnapped my father had previously invaded another home and killed a husband and wife. After kidnapping my father, they later entered another home unmasked and held another elderly couple hostage at knife point. However, when the husband (a former combat veteran) when to open a safe in a spare bedroom he was able to retrieve a pistol he had under a mattress near the safe and kill the first burglar, and quickly shoot the second intruder who was holding his wife at knife-point between the eyes. The attackers who were killed had served time in the prison of my friend the prison superintendent. He later testified at the trial of the elderly husband who killed his kidnappers who was charged with manslaughter for shooting the first intruder in the back as he fled to thee room where his wife was being held at knife point, and told the jury what he told my father and me, and the man was acquitted and went free. He told reporters after the trial he had no doubts he and his wife were going to die and he had no regrets for defending their lives. .

A friend who remained in South Africa a good number of years ago suggested I consider moving to South Africa to work with him and his family in their business. He said it was a paradise compared to America, where my father was kidnapped. I mentioned that to another wealthy South African friend who had moved to the San Francisco Bay area and he said: "!i t's a paradise all right, a fools paradise! You stay out of there if you know what's good for you because the place will become a literal hell in a few years!". Sadly, his prediction was very accurate. While some of the dynamics of South Africa are different here in the US and Canada you seem to be on a similar degenerative course, and being denied the right of self protection is the solution to that is not one to relish.

@@DarkLord666SK Because the people who write weapon laws are usually pacifists who genuinely believe that police response times are instantaneous and no one would ever need to defend themselves with violence. They see such "shooting aids" as things that would make it easier to kill someone (or poach animals), because they don't know the first thing about placing a shot under pressure. The reality is, if you hit someone on the torso with a steel ball, a bullet or a bolt, they're going to bleed out before the ambulance arrives. All a shooting aid would do is actually let you have a small chance at placing a non-lethal shot. As the laws are right now, you're going to aim center mass to hit anything at all, so, you'll always be going for a kill shot if you shoot in the first place.
@CannaCJ
@CannaCJ 2 года назад
@@maxgehtdnixan4913 with US laws you have no legal defense unless you were using lethal force as a last resort in “exigent circumstances” and having the time to place a non-lethal shot indicates that you are not under immediate and certain threat of death or grievous harm. Even where it’s possible to shoot someone in a non-vital area, it is pretty much legally indefensible. Ridiculous but true. Don't forget the power of poison to make weaker crossbows more lethal. It was pretty common in post-classical era China where a small repeating crossbow was sometimes used by civilians for guarding their home. The bolts were often little more than sharpened pieces of wood, but the tips were dipped into something like rat feces or covered with berries from a poisonous plant. While a victim may survive the immediate wounds, he would likely die of infection or poisoning in the days to come.

Excellent video Jorge, thanks for the testing this helps alot. 😉 Video starts out with a very pragmatic and realistic warning and advice on dealing with Intruders... Being a former neighborhood watch Commander I can testify to the fact that you definitely want to avoid a confrontation even yelling for them to get out but getting everybody out the back door safely would be ideal it's better to be a chicken than a dead duck because in real life they keep coming even after they're shot they can wrestle the weapon away from you and use it on you or your family so it must be in the extreme and that goes for firearms as well.... But if you have no choice then you have no choice.... But there are some really good ways you can keep people out of your house one of the best ways and people faill on this many times.... Often times someone comes charging in when you're asleep they bust down the door in one shot and they're upon you in under a minute..... I've seen this happen and reviewed video tapes with Police department people that had cameras in their house.... People were stabbed and murdered in their beds.... And they had a security system and guns didn't save them but here's what could have saved them.... 4 inch wood screws screwed into the door hinge metal plate on all three plates that's nine 4-in screws on the other side with the deadbolt lock plate you screw in 2... 5 inch wood screws.... If you do this they would have to use a battering ram about 20 times to get through that door, this has been tested.... But regular kicking the door you're not going to get through that door.... So that gives you plenty of time to mount a defense or an escape you can also do this on bedroom doors as well which I fully encourage on your sleeping quarters and of course back door obviously you if you have a sliding glass door you have issues but you have to put lighting and a loud cheap screeching motion sensor alarm.... Additionally on your windows you can do the same thing in fact you probably want to put up I always recommend it putting up items on your windowsill even if they're bottles or anything that makes extra noise to give you a heads up so you can mount a defense.... 90% of thieves want an easy target most of them do not want to be confronted, so Jorge is very wise.

I used to be a criminal, I’m in America, and this advice right here would NOT be a discouragement in my former way of life. 1:26 It’s hard for me to see how the better policy isn’t to make sure someone knows that breaking in where they don’t belong will be considered an act of war, just as between countries, and met with deadly force at the discretion of the occupants. I used to live in California, I now live in Virginia, in a smaller city that does have a drug blight, but criminals know they can expect guns and other weapons to be produced and used with righteous indignation 1:26 1:26 against them if they commit assault or break into homes. Joerg, myself being born in the USA and having a Father and Uncles who used firearms I grew up around loaded weapons sitting in corners of rooms. I bought my first rifle when I was 8 years old (7x57 Mauser 1895) and my first pistol when I was 12 years old a 9 mm Browning High Power. Today in Israel I have an fully auto M16 beside my bed and a Colt 45 officers model pistol under my pillow (Seven shots). In the USA I had a Mosberg 500 12 Ga eight shot riot gun loaded with the first four shots #3 buckshot and the next four Sabot slugs. Under my pillow was a alloy frame Ruger 9MM with one round in the chamber and fifteen rounds in the magazine. I have killed deer and other game with arrows and I can tell you that compared to humans animals want to run away. Humans after you shoot them want to attack you. You must practice very hard for close quarters combat regardless of the weapons system you use. Carry a large knife if you plan on using a bow or crossbow. Carry extra magazines if you use a rifle and pistol. The number one thing I want everyone to realize is that if your intruders cannot give the police a statement you are 1000% better off. Dead men tell no tales. Better if you are the only survivor between the people who break in and yourself and loved ones.

The issue is most of us live in countries where firearms are illegal. So we have to look at other self-defense options. Of course these would all probably still be illegal to use in a self defense situation... but rather in jail than dead. And who knows if there even is a law in the coming years.

If you're not in the US or Canada, firearms are often not all that possible. If you're even allowed to have them at home, just like in Germany you're often obliged by law to keep them in a weapons locker, separate from your ammo(this is the case in the Netherlands, which has even more strict arms laws than Germany). This is of course legally, you can just keep your gun under your bed locked and loaded and just open the lockers after you've dealt with the burglars, but if they find out you'd be tried for manslaughter. Personally I'd be more concerned about the kids or my wife hurting themselves with it.

I've shot indoors with earprotection and I was taken a-back from the REALLY loud noice, where as I shoot bows and (hand)crosbows indoors all the time, besides legal issues here in the Netherlands I'm certain that a fire arm would wake up the whole neighborhood compared to a bow/crossbow that you could shoot/fire/loose all night long without anyone the wiser. Also unlike firearms you won't need a vault for storage which saves you just so much that you could easily buy a second bow/crossbow toy (depends on choice and price).

Saying you can be called the perpetrator for injuring or killing a home intruder is kinda disgusting. Say what you want about the US but I dont think anyone with a brain has an issue with the castle doctrine. Really should be standard in any country. The only argument I ever hear is "ur property isnt more important than life" but my response is always about how, the instant you break into my home, I only know that youre up to no good. I am not going to leave things to the hope that "they probably just want my things." I have to engage like they are out for my life, as they have already broken their way in and im not going to give A HOME INVADER the benefit of the doubt. If you dont want to be killed when invading a home, just dont invade a home. My view of you when you break in isnt that of someone doing something out of necessity, but as someone being actively malicious, because if I dont approach it that way, whose to say my family and me dont pay for it. Because when you break in, you already show me you have no regard for the lives of others, why should I have a regard for yours.

Someone who is breaking in has already committed at least one crime in doing so making it safe, under English Common Law to assume that they are a threat to you, your family and your property. Plus, under English Common Law, it is a duty of every English Citizen to arrest a criminal and prevent their escape, using whatever force necessary to hand them over to a magistrate.

Home defense in netherlands: a jeweler encounters a burglar with an axe who attacks him. The jeweler runs op the stairs to his bedroom where he has a licensed firearm, persued by the axe-wielding burglar. The man manages to reach his bedroom, grab the gun and shoots the burglar. Judge does not want to accept self defense coz it was not sure if the jeweller really had to fear for his life. A woman opens the door when another woman with whom she has a bit of a row starts banging a d kicking it. The angry woman immediately with a tire iron attacks the woman who opened the door. The fight ends up in the kitchen where the home ownster stabs the attacker. Judge: no self defense as the woman had chosen to open the door and thus had not withdrawn from the conflict. A jewellery is invaded by 2 robbers who storm in, while shooting at him. The jeweller ducks behind the counter, grabs a fire arm and shoots over the counter in the direction of the robbers, while still hiding beneath the counter, shoots one in the back. Judge: as the robber was shit in the back it proves he was no longer a threath so it is not self defense. Welcome in the netherlands

Could you do a direct comparison between the Adder and Stinger 2? Or let me know which you prefer? I used to think of the Stinger as a "little brother" to the Adder, but now that we have the Stinger 2 with the larger size, rear stock, and stronger bow limb, they seem a lot closer now. They even scored the same in your testing here. Between the Adder and Stinger 2, what do you think the advantages and disadvantages are? What do you personally prefer? Which has the better cocking mechanism? Which is safer?
@OpiatesAndTits
@OpiatesAndTits 2 года назад
I’ve been mulling over what my first buy will be for awhile now. The stinger 2 has a shorter power stroke (how long the string is contact with the arrow) and up to 90lbs with the break stock cocking mechanism so it’s got 40lbs less power than the adder plus less energy in the bolt. It also has a simpler trigger system which means a really heavy trigger pull on the 90lb limbs. It’s a very flexible platform. You can use the break cock with 90lbs for power and distance. The 35lb limbs with the linear cocking system or even 50ish lb limbs with it (90lbs is probably not feasible). It has a lot of accessories including speed loaders and a weapon mounted clip. Plus optics etc. Its a compact moddable platform but getting all those options will add up quickly especially with the bolts. Both methods are far easier to cock and the weapon itself far easier to maneuver indoors. Finally it’s simple trigger system allows for quick firing without having to disengage the automatic safety. I have questions about the durability of the cocking system using the 90lb limbs. The Adder is significantly more powerful. Has a more advanced trigger for easier shooting. Can be broken down to fit in a bag or serviced easily (waxed). It’s about 32 inches long and 18 inches wide at the limbs. The lever to cock it has some play which apparently can cause misfires if you don’t strengthen it. The safety isn’t so much an issue if your practices but it’s going to be harder to use indoors and harder to get that second shot. But it’s clearly better in open spaces or if you need the that first shot to count and with a red dot your hitting that first shot center mass easily. It’s a better field weapon and point defense for a riot. In December the EK archery vlad will be released which is a direct competitor to stinger 2 which is the adders real little brother and while you won’t have immediate firing from cocking (it has a safety) I believe it will be one of the best self defense crossbows on the market.

@@BobT36 I own something similar to the bow used in this video with an 80 lb limb, and I am certain that it could kill a man even without the broadheads. You would have to hit somebody in exactly the wrong place to do it, but it is definitly dangerous. I treat it like a gun. It isnt as powerful as a .22, but I wouldn't mess around. If you hit somebody, even if they don't die, you will both have a very bad day. For kicks and giggles I fired plastic aluminum bolts at a 5/8 inch pressure treated fence slat from Home Depot. I put the board against a wall for support, so no give. The practice tip just barely dimpled the back of the board. A broad head stuck a quarter inch out the back. For comparison, I hit the same board with a philips head screw driver, then a steak knife. I used both several times. The screwdriver point is similar to that of the practice bolt, but the diameter of the barrel is a bit less. I am six feet tall, and 198 pounds. I'm comfortable with manual labor, 20 push-ups don't scare me, and have no touble carrying my 7 year old son under one arm with my 13 year old daughter under the other. In other words, fairly average dude. Placing the board on the tailgate of my pickup and swinging downward with everything I had, I made a nearly identical dimples in the back of the board. Mind you, my swings compressed the truck's suspension enough for ot to bounce a bit. I hit it hard. When I tried again with a steak knife, the damage was nearly identical to the broadhead every time. So, these bows aren't toys, but I wouldn't count on one shot to drop somebody unless you hit them some place vital. With a broadhead and an 80 lb limb, I find them about as scary as a single stab of a knife, which is pretty darn scary. Especially since you can deliver that stab from across the room. I would not stand in front of my tiny little bow. You could definitly die. Still, in the incredibly unlikely event that I have to confront a home invader, I'll leave the bow on the shelf and grab a gun. Super fun bow though. Wish mine had a magazine : )

I have a small place, so my home defense mindset is not looking at range, but reach. I want enough reach to keep someone from getting their hands on my, but a short enough weapon that my walls are not my own worst enemy. I settled on things like short swords (spatha, gladius, machete) and lengths of wood (1x2, child's little league baseball bat). As I don't want to be "strapped" all day around my place, I have options secreted in each room. - All that said, my two best measures for self protection are knowing my neighbors (and we look out for each other) and curtains. "Curtains?" you say. Yes, If a potential burglar does not see my 'stealables' from outside, they are less incentivized to enter and take them. - Side note: When you buy a big new tech item, don't put the box out on the curb for recycling. Cut it up into 1' x 1' pieces and bundle the pieces with boring paper or cardboard. I am blown away at how many times I see boxes on the curb for someone's new giant flatscreen or Alienware computer or things like that. It's almost like they WANT burglars to target their home!

Good point, also legally in Germany home defense just like self defense falls under the category of "Notwehr", that's the technical term. "Notwehr" doesn't directly translate into self defense or home defense, it's a more general term, literally it means necessity defense, defense out of need. Hey Joerg, what are your thoughts on Tasers (not stun guns), Pepperball rounds (specifically Byrna), beanbag rounds, and other less-lethal or less-than-lethal options for home defense and/or self-defense? Also, I know this is a small thing, but thank you for using 2 layers of leather and a layer of cloth - it's very unrealistic for an attacker to be completely naked and skinless.

I live in Alaska... rural alaska... police response time is hours but, I don't have much in the way of crime in my area... in fact, I don't even lock my doors! Why do I mention this?? We have a saying out here... S.S.S .... shoot, shovel and shut up... ;) A bigger threat out here are the 4 legged predators, and THEY are best handled with a 12ga... That all being said... WHY is the Fenris so expensive?? I have a lovely bow that I would love to add the magazine to, but I can buy 2-4 shotguns for the same price!! More if I get walmart break actions! I suppose I just need to build one like your early prototypes... love your vids!

What about a straight up slingshot with a heavy ball. That repeating bow is interesting. Since the part that hold the arrows is retracted a burglar will have a difficult time deffending himself before you get a shot on target

I live in Indiana where self defense is legal with handgun, long gun, or any of the weapons you used here but I am curious as to the status of the sling bow in Germany. Would those be allowed to be stored ready to use?

In UK i have my Adder beside my bed every night with 5 in. In UK we dont have to keep archery gear under lock and key.

@@garethh6962 Yeah seems like this is the ideal weapon for home defense in places like the UK. You still got a five shot, effectively pump action bow with the Fenris bow.
