Welcome to HVAC with John Israel RU-vid Channel. On this channel I Bring you along on HVAC Service calls, HVAC Installs, HVAC Maintenance and pretty much anything else HVAC related. Enjoy and thanks for watching.
You might want to purge the system with nitrogen before and during brazing. I didn't see a nitrogen bottle, just a 410a jug when you finished brazing. Keep up the good work.
I'm not an hvac tech, however i installed a system for my parents. Set it up, made the duct work. Installed all wiring, thermostat but i was not about to touch the line set or attempt to try. I saved them some money and got the local hvac tech to come out and make a easy paycheck. It was a have to situation but yalls work is worth every penny. And we have them come out and service it.
The only thing that is probably off limits to DIY installers by law, is charging the refrigerant. Since you need an EPA license to do that. The only way that could be flexible, is if you were installing a mini split or package unit that was already precharged at the factory. If you were installing a gas burning system. Some states requires you to have a gas fitters license to hook up natural and propane gas lines, that are part of the house.
What is that actual frankenpipe situation? Holy schnikes... Kinks and fittings galore. I bet that pipe is literally full of copper oxide scale. Lots of luck to that compressor. And what is the duct-o-pus on top of the air handler? Imagine if he just called you first. smh. We call it a suicide cord. Kids, don't try this at home. Leave it to the pros.
First of all there, bud nobody would learn how to do anything if nobody attempted to do it themselves I don’t appreciate the knock on the little guy for trying to do something on his own. If he fucks it up. Oh well, he’s paying the price at least he tried.
Oh well at least he tried most people ain’t got the common sense to even attempt it. He knows he screwed up. That’s why I called you, so what he had a couple leaks. That’s how you learn get those hands on
I forgot the drain cleaner RU-vidr from down under's name but when you were walking swinging your arms it reminded me of him. That's his trademark move in all his vids.
I like the chest strap. When I first saw Curtis wearing it, I thought it was a good idea. Anyway, good job sorting out those homeowner mistakes. I do work for a guy that used to be like that. Of course, now he just calls me but those first couple systems he had me work on. Let's just say it was amusing. 🤣🤣
Installation by professional contractor is very.... very... expensive. So, that being said. I could understand the homeowner's thinking behind this install. You have to consider the economic environment in this day and age. Installation costs thousands of dollars!
And you shouldn’t assume anything just because a homeowner done himself doesn’t mean it’s wrong got these arrogant cocky, HVAC guys that they’re the God and they’re the best I have installed mine no leaks never called the HVAC guy done it all myself
The coil leak inside is probably the reason he had to change his outdoor unit...after it locked up. I would've leak searched the indoor coil before I wasted time cleaning it. Then recovered or pumped down, purged with nitro, to repair leaks/replace incorrect leaky coil.
Just curious, are all heated diodes the same. I use the field piece DR58 it will alert on coil cleaner and soap bubbles. Anytime I plan on using it I have to make sure I do it before putting any other chemicals on the coil. Not saying that's the same in your case. I have never used the h10. Was just wondering if you ever ran into that issue with that leak detector.
Yo, john, the caps were still on the valves.... You know, and i know you dumped that charge, brother . East mint charging for all the new 410a. Just saying.
Installed An American standard heat pump with my dads help at my house saved about 4k! There’s hardly any skill to HVAC I’ll never understand the premium techs/companies charge. For what knowledge I can’t find & research myself?
Yep, and their name goes on the list. And every HVAC guy within 10 miles knows who's on the list.Do it yourself'ers are gonna learn how to do it right or go work a few more months and pay someone who does know how to do it right. Otherwise it's just gonna cost them double in the end.
Respect the home owner a little for trying, but certainly not re: the lack of grounding... but why try to use a 410a condenser with an r22 coil? sheer ignorance?
Wow! I do all of my DIY maintenance, but I will not mess with gas valves or refrigerant lines. Wish I knew a local pro. I would like to install two mini-splits, but want pro to do connections and charge. I will NOT do Mr Cool. I want professional equipment that looks good. I’m good at plumbing and educated on electric. I won’t do gas/ or high pressure connections. Good at water!
I'm a DIY guy too and did a Mr. Cool in my smaller garage. It's awesome. If I was going to do it for my house I would probably go with Mitsu's or Fujitsu's. I'm not a fan of the way people coiled the linesets or the line covers on the outside of the house. I honestly did one of the nicest installs I have seen. Instead of poking out the lineset high I ran it down the inside garage wall. My Snap-On toolbox covers most of it. I poked it out about 2' above the ground. I have shrubs so it's hidden on the outside to the condenser. I used white line cover in the garage and brown to match the gutters even though you can't see them. I measured out exactly where to mount the condenser so no coiling. I ran EMT from the garage ceiling and also poked out next to the lineset and used gray PVC pipe to the disco. From there a whip into the condenser. Being I am in Florida I used a hurricane rated bracket on the wall. You can't hear these running. If I am hot but need to go in and out of the garage I can leave the door open and this thing still keeps the garage cool. 18,000 BTU in a single car garage. We have been in the 90's for a couple months so it needed it. I did a load calc and that's what it called for. Those precharged lines are nice for a DIY guy. I bought an A/C style torque wrench for the flares (no leaks) and a ratchet pipe bender which I didn't actually use. It was a fun project. The only thing I didn't do was run the 240 from the circuit breaker panel in the other garage through the attic. I had a low voltage buddy do that and I made the connections at both ends. This guy is the best I have ever seen running cable to impossible locations without them being seen.
It hard to find a good HVAC Tech these days. And i think the reason whys that, is similar to the same reason why we have an airline pilot shortage. There not that many new takers of the profession stepping up to the plate as used to.
@@KenKen-ui4ny you just have to find the right kinda guys. There's plenty of us honest and hard working mofos out here. We're just super busy all the time. We'll get to you when we have the time might just take a few days.
Why not Mr Cool? As far as I know they are the only precharged unit available making it the only true dyi installation on the market. What am I missing?
I do like the channel and have been watching for a couple years now good to see that you are doing good. I like how you try to be creative to help people without doing a hack job. LoL 🤣🤣. Too many companies out there just trying to get the money I understand you want to do things that are correct and right but I appreciate when you are able to be creative and still do things right and help people in the process
No, that’s ridiculous. He didn’t install the system, he is only there to fix mistakes per the title of the video. He is an hvac tech, it’s his job to try and fix things. He is a humble hvac tech, he is getting paid to fix it. I don’t know why you’re so upset over it. Not all the home owners have big money to pay someone to install a new system.
@@bubbaharrod2530 Thanks, that's what I figured. The coil itself is the same, so you could convert it by changing the expansion valve to a TXV or whatever for the type of refrigerant you use.
@@jthonn yeh if it has a r22 txv on it currently just get a 410 txv and install one or convert it to a piston whatever is easier for you but yeh the coil will hold the pressure, a lot of them say on the data that it’s a 410 or r22 coil
Around here it is a crime to be venting refrigerant into the atmosphere u should have flowed nitrogen before welding have u ever been to refrigeration school
@Crazy Dan since you like to run your mouth so much I’d love to have you on my live show if you have the balls!!! So are you a keyboard cowboy or do you have the balls?
If the system is empty you can pressurize with nitro and put a hint of refrigerant to find a leak. Only to search for the leak so your detector can pick it up. This is if the nitro isn't detected at first tho. Usually with nitro you can hear a leak
DIYers and most Maintenace men keep my wallet fat and happy. I would have cut all that ugly shit out at CU and repiped that and made it actually look nice and then armaflex it. You fixed it but that still looks like dog shit lol. I guess it’s understandable though when it’s late in the evening and you’ve been booked up all day and don’t have the copper or fittings you need. Either way good job getting it up and cooling
Inspector required a new outdoor outlet installed before signing off on replacement. I use cheater cords for some things, but local code is trying to get rid of that.
@@jackl9922 It's part of the electrical code, which is subject to local adoption and modification. In 'my fair city' the Code office started enforcing service outlets a couple years ago and we're far, far from any coast.
Hey John. Get rid of the wife. She is lazy, sitting on condenser. And she lacks personality. Gotta shed the liability, know what I’m saying. Keep her at home. Not professional bring the ole cow out.
That is the exact reason I don't work on rentals, apartments, Home Warranty calls, DIYer jobs, builder jobs, etc. Always a hits show! Always waiting on your money. After 21 years you'll be choosier too.
You clean indoor coils like I do. HVAC guy in Georgia was brushing his dry, then brushing dirt on the customers ductwork. I recommended Nu-Calgon Foaming Evap Coil Cleaner and a pan of hot soapy dishwater (Dawn) to dip thy brush in.
