First, Butcher can laser him and take his punches, now a butt naked teleporting Hughie... I think he half-expected Frenchie and MM to have weird superpowers too at that point.
I've had that smile, before and/or during a fight; it doesn't necessarily mean you're winning, just that you're having fun and the other guy needs to try harder if they want to win.
I think the best part about this scene that is highly overlooked is how skilled home lander is in hand to hand combat, considering you only ever seen him one hit kill everybody until he finds soldier boy
I dont think its overlooked at all. Vaught trained him to be a bad ass a complete weapon. Its only natural that one could assume he really could hold his own if he met someone on the same level as himself.
He is not skilled. He just uses raw power. If he got skill he would have whooped soldier boy. Homelander is stronger than soldier boy, but soldier boy is far better in hand to hand combat thus being able to hold his own vs homelander.
@@stefanapostolovski5481 Bro Soldier Boy got folded in seconds and was about to be strangled to death, then they 2v1'd Homelander and he was still about to kill both.
@@TheCampbellian It does. But it also has Bad writing. The Cutaways during this fight and the Finale are proof amongst others that the Show sometimes fumbles a Segment.
The fight wasn’t the point. Ultimately at the end it turned into a stalemate with Homelander fleeing. The point of that was to show MM actually being a good person instead of an obsessed narcissistic clown beating the crap out of people. To show that in a room full of “heroes”, he was the one putting his wants aside and helping people minus any powers.
I also think it was weird how they made MM the dumbest motherfucker on the planet. Why would you go after Homelander or Soldier Boy with a gun? What the fuck is that gonna do? It's been well established for pretty much the whole series that shooing a supe literally won't do anything to them. I get that he was maybe blinded by rage but come on, hes basically just committing suicide on purpose.
You’d think homelander would know right away that something was up when his laser vision didn’t cause Butcher to explode into a bloody mess like it usually does.
@@jumboopizza255 ain’t no way you’re being serious. This season is by far the best season for MM in terms of development. We saw him be blinded by his hate for soldier boy and then grow out of it once he realizes that there’s bigger problems.
If you notice clearly Butcher and Soldier Boy are more experienced fighters and Homelander relies on brute force more than anything, but he's kind of like Z Broly in the sense that his brutal attacks are still refined and not entirely thoughtless, savage strikes. He's not as fine tuned as the other two, but he had some good maneuvers for someone who has never needed to use smarts in a fight before.
Homelander is definitely a decent level fighter, not a master or expert like other characters but he's still more skilled than the average person. In the diabolical episode we do see he got some training.
I love the little detail that Soldier Boy has the superior fighting prowess compared to Homelander. And Billy has the best of the three due to his extensive time as a wet work agent. Both land more hits on Homelander than he lands on them because at the end of the day, Homelander was born with the godlike powers he has and never had a need to learn any kind of real CQC maneuvers. Why bother when nobody could possibly hurt you? Billy started out as just a man as did Soldier boy. Both saw combat as ordinary men (though admittedly Soldier Boys is as likely to have happened as my fight with Mike Tyson. As in never happened at all), but both were born with the image fear of injury and had the instincts to avoid it. The need to learn how to fight properly. Hence when they have even half the power of Homelander, they nearly beat him. A nice little detail.
@@Spider_Rng Whoo whoo. Here comes the bad faith train. Dude watch the fight again. Homelander won through sheer strength. I state this. I state that soldier boy has superior ability in hand to hand. Where did I say in any part of my statement that Homelander won unfairly? I’ll save you the trouble. I didn’t. Maybe learn to read a statement thoroughly before jumping to a conclusion based on nothing my dude.
I noticed that to, I just assumed that homelander didn’t notice the way he normally would cause he was so focused on and getting mentally prepped to fight solider boy that it completely went right past him
Normally a human body without the compound in their system would explode into several pieces with enough concentration from homelander. The exception is one of terrorists on the plane during season one. However homelander is so arrogant he literally forgot that Billy tanked his shot. It did nothing but throw him into the wall knocking him out. Homelander was enamoured by soldier boy’s appearance. He never met his hero before lol. His attention is was easily diverted.
You know what I find interesting, the reason Homelander is the strongest supe is because he was grown in a lab and he has the most compound v in his system than anybody. But Butcher with just temp V doesn't match soldier boy or Homelander but is capable of fighting them. Butcher with powers has got to be one of the most powerful supe's same tier as like Stromfront and Maeve.
@@anthonychristianson411 well considering Maeve actually puts up a solid fight against Homelander, does damage to him, and Stormfront gets obliterated by his child, I’d say you might have this one backwards lol
@@jtg8513 is this later in season 3 or something cuz I've never seen Maeve do anything resembling close to putting up a fight against homelander lmao not sure what you're talking about at all
@@jtg8513 also his kid got a lucky shot cuz she didn't even know his powers were active and she wasn't expecting it. Not to mention the kid is literally homelander Jr so again, your argument makes no sense
@@anthonychristianson411 end of season 3, when Butcher is fighting Soldier Boy, Maeve fights Homelander, and yeah he’s initially distracted, but he starts to fight back eventually because Maeve won’t stop coming at him. She puts up a decent fight, still losing but jamming I believe a screwdriver or a pen in his ear and rupturing his ear drum before she does. So it’s a decent fight. To your second response, so what if Stormfront didn’t expect it didn’t expect it? She still got Anakin’d by him, and sent her back to WW2. He’s Homelander Jr, nowhere near as strong as Sr is at this point, and you think Stormfront is still on a different tier than Maeve? I would argue they’re on level footing if anything, but I’d still give a slight edge to Maeve for being able to go toe to toe with Homelander and walking away. They’re both still weaker than Homelander, and Soldier Boy, but are the next strongest after them.
1:38 This scene never fails to crack me up, Homelander is simultaneously praising and trying to downplay Soldier Boy and he's like "Hue, look how cute this little bitch is"
1:30 Couple of things bug me about HL lasering Butcher like that. 1) It's been established that HL only kills his major adversaries when they are scared of him and/or he beats them psychologically first. Moreover, we know by this point that Butcher is not afraid of HL (e.g. when they made a deal in Butcher's house at the start of the season) and especially now he has even less reason to be afraid of him at this point due to having taken the temp V and having SB at his side. Hence, I don't understand why HL 'killed' Butcher there. Maybe Butcher faked being scared? Or perhaps HL wanted him out if the way before he confronted SB 🤷♂️ 2) Even after lasering Butcher, HL should still be able to hear Butcher's heart beat so he would know he's not actually dead. I guess maybe HL was too distracted with SB's presence that he missed it.
1. Bringing Soldier Boy to the fight may have caused Homelander to "lose his respect" for Butcher, maybe that's why he went for the kill. 2. Like you said he was probably focusing on Soldier Boy at the moment, and I suppose he can choose to focus on what he's trying to listen to - otherwise with superhuman senses like his, he'd be perpetually in sensory overload simply from the amount of ambient noise. Though a more telltale sign of Butcher not dying was that Homelander's laser vision cuts through things. If Butcher was normal it'd have sliced right through him; instead he gets knocked off his feet as if punched or hit with something. I'm not sure why Homelander didn't notice that.
It's a good example of his arrogance. He has killed so callously murdered so many people in that manner he must have just fired and moved on. Kinda like when you drive the same route to work everyday for years you do it so automatically you don't actually recall the trip itself. Or possibility firing 4:58 from his eyes blinds him for second & in that time he had already turned his head and didn't actually see butcher smash into the wall instead of blow apart. Or maybe it's just sh*tty writing to get to an aww yea moment
@@justinfernandez719 fights never have to be fair, especially to the death. He ran, so he lost. Though it can be said the three lost because hes still alive.
@@justinfernandez719 if you retreat from the battle you lost, you're basically saying the british and french didnt lose at dunkirk because they were outnumberd and the british got away so it doesnt count as a loss, doesnt matter it was 3 on 1, homelander fled from the battle, even if he wasnt badly hurt thats an L bro, literally the first he ever took as far as i know too
2:05. Anthony Starr is fucking incredible. Look closely at this shot, as his head is coming down from Soldier Boy’s uppercut and you can see surprise in his eyes. That’s probably the first time in Homelander’s life that he REALLY got hit and Starr portrays that in a split second. His performance of Homelander will go down as one of the best in history as long as the show ends well enough.
He's so lucky he can fly otherwise he would have been screwed although after watching season 3 i'm pretty sure homelander could have tanked that blast. Edit: I came back to watch this video again after a year, and I noticed something. Plot aside, I feel like they could have killed homelander right there if they wanted to, but butcher decided not to. At 4:25, 4:33, and 4:46. You can see Butcher sees his little brother in Hugi, and he didn't want to see hugi die, so he let homelander go.
@@combomaster666 Yeah. Now that you mentioned it I believe you may be right. It's just maive survived the blast, so I assume homelander would be able to withstand that blast.
Small detail yes... But still: Termite was under investigation. Any word coming out Termite's sexual escapades would damage Vought... By 'accidentally' taking him out, in a scenario where Soldier Boy would get the blame was just an intelligent decision from Homelander. Savage, gruesome, but smart!
@henryofskalitz4879 I feel like everyone should workout and do other things to better themselves, too. It doesn't count though if you don't treat people how you want to be treated. I feel like the world would be a better place if people stopped focusing on pleasure all the time and did those two things. If people learned how to fight properly with both firearms and their bodies, normal people wouldn't be so aggressive and less angry because they would understand what violence is. That's another thing I feel everyone should do and teach their children, too. I started shooting and fighting at 5 years old. The world isn't a safe place, there will always be evil men and women out there, plus the mentally deranged. When or if I have children they will be going to the range with me and will learn Ju Jitsu, Wrestling, and other things. Hopefully I can find ways to make it fun for them because you don't want to discourage your children from things as important as learning what violence is, and treating people how they would want to be treated, and learning how to control their emotions
I kinda wish the show would have gave hugie and butcher their powers a long time ago already but its still really good. Wonder if its gonna end similar to the comics or if they are gonna give it a happy ending for hughie and butcher. Cant wait to watch S4 next year.
I love how Soldier Boy insulted HL's cape, and then when HL was flying and fighting Butcher SB Yanks him to the ground by his cape, throws him to the wall, AND THEN SLAPS HIM 3:47
It's actually a bit surprising to me that Homelander was able to hold of Billy Butcher. I would have expected Billy to be a much better fighter than Homelander, given that Homelander relies on brute superpower.
if you look closely, Butcher actually bled in his mouth after the punches, Homelander had 0 scars/marks except the burn on his suit from the lazer eyes. That means in the TV show temp V doesnt make you strong enough to actually really hurt homelander, but just able to go toe to toe for a while. So regardless of Butcher's prowess and fighting skill, he cant do any real dmg.
@@graddeos Imo i feel like butcher had superhuman endurance but just not enough to keep up with homelanders superhuman strength. Homelander relies heavily on his abilities to defeat others which is why he was so surprised during this fight and the one on the 7 tower, since he never expected people to be able to be strong enough put him into the ground
@@graddeos Homelander definintely had damage just not to the same extent as Butcher, because obviously he is stronger, in the next episode Maive comments on Homelanders face as he is wearing concealer makeup to hide his bruises.
I'd have thought Butcher would have been vastly superior in fighting compared to Homelander. Butcher hasn't had super powers so has had to use brawling techniques. Homelander hasn't really needed to fight anyone like himself so isn't used to hand to hand.
I believe it's theorized that Billy actually intentionally took the blows because the mere idea that he can survive being punched by Homelander without exploding into a gory mesh means the world to him
@@theusher2893 its sad abit that he is announcing his age But its not sad for this to be his favourite show cos its my favourite too its not for kids i can tell u that
@@RoyalRegimentofScotland - But that's just it. Like Soldier Boy said, Homelander is a "cheap f*cking knock-off", and the proof is right there. The character Homelander is based on would've beaten all three of those guys.
@Kryptic1046 Well that doesn't make sense soldier boy was referring to himself when he said homelander was a cheap knockoff. As in homelander was a knock off version of soldier boy
@@RoyalRegimentofScotland - I believe Soldier Boy's statement is intended by the writers to be a tongue-in-cheek double-entendre. It can be taken in the context you said, or it can be taken literally, because HL is in fact a cheap knock-off of Superman.
Through out the show they make it like Homelander is just feared because of his powers but I gotta say. He held his own against Soldier Boy and a powered up Butches and even pushed back all three from a down position to escape.
I had the same thoughts honestly. Homelander was perceived as just some bully with super powers prior to Season 3. Then he started making actual smart decisions and everyone realized “Oh shit! He’s that good?” Homelander’s development is by far the best out of everybody, even above Hughie’s in my opinion.
*Soldier Boy was weakened from his energy blast, Billy & Hughie are still experimenting with the V and experience side effects, they are not really Supes* *In their second final battle with SB at full strength SB was stronger and could have killed EVERY supe in the tower including HL*
@@ZelenikTchingyhomelander literally didn’t fight solider boy the second time so you can’t really prove he could beat homelander. Not to mention he seemed to have recovered pretty quickly after each blast. Seemed fine after staggering down the stairs
Can we talk about how stupid MM’s plan was like, the dude knows these are super humans who can’t be hurt with bullets and he’s still gonna mean mug them and walk them down???
@@Flodro250 this episode was the best. The last one sadly had the vibe of an indian soap opera. Where did i ask whether other believe my projections and where is your statistics to claim "no one".. There was nothing even remotely emotional in the last episode. Looks like it was written by an emo guy like you
Either that or gifting others abilities in a reversal of Soldier Boy's depowering beam (as The Boys' powers seem to mirror their nemesis': Billy turns himself into Homelander lite, Hughie's teleportation as opposed to A-Train's superspeed).
It's kind of weird, in the comic MM is an actual superhuman. His mom worked in a factory that used to be a V production facility, and her "Mother's Milk" made him super strong. He also had a brother who got super powers, which kicked in at an unfortunate time, when he was wearing a football helmet. His body suddenly started growing, and he screamed as the helmet held in his expanding skull, crushing his brain and killing him.
0:41 I think you can simply see the way Soldier Boy walk. The chest blast is exactly the thing that drained his stamina and strength. That is why he got beat up by Homelander. I think he probably stronger than Homelander at full strength.
More than likely. And honestly it's not talked about or delved into but Soldier Boy is exerting a natural radiated field thanks to the Russians giving him that Nuke Beam that comes out of his chest. SBs radioactive. They have a Geiger counter in a few scenes and it's off the charts when he walks by. And going by the meetup with the crimson countess, the range of that field is pretty big. Kind of wished they touched up on that. Bc if the beam takes a way a supes powers. The field itself could act like a suppressor that makes supes half as strong as they usually are.
Nah, Homelander is stronger than SB and Ryan will be stronger than Homelander. The show implies it all through that season, its why Voight was breeding supes from supes, to get super supes.
@@lesigh1749 *SB was weakened of the laser beam before HL came and still was almost an even match* *In their second final battle with SB at full strength SB was stronger and could have killed EVERY supe in the tower including HL*
I loved this scene because it finally shows that Homelander is not a god. He is a mortal and when he can't laser someone or punch a normal human's guts out, he has no training or fight strategy to speak of. To quote a famous movie "if it bleeds, we can kill it"
It was a great knock-down drag-out fist fight, then Hughie had to show up and make it all weird......just a naked guy running around all over the place......
Aint no one going to mention how hugie managed to restrain one of homelanders arms? With all his super strength youd think that hughie holding ine arm would be the weak link here but he actually manages to pull his arm down and hold it down.
I think it's because, like most supes, he seems to have enhanced baseline durability and strength. Probably nowhere near bucket or soldier boy, but still more than a normal human.
I’ve never seen this movie but this is the second scene I’m seeing and i think I found a hole in the movie. Homelander couldn’t save the plane because he was afraid he might go through it because he’s too strong and yet here he flys at buddy and he can’t even muster up the strength to fly him right through the walls!
Seeing Butcher beat up the worlds most famous and powerful man who can’t be killed or even injured with any weapon who also raped his wife was so satisfying to watch and that psychotic revenge smile Butcher makes when he catches Homelanders arm was perfect. Butcher has proven he can beat up ANY MAN in the world.
