Hey Tom, it’s late dinner time over in Scotland, and as the daughter and I sit down she turns and says: “Put on Trip the Witch would you?” Proud moment. She’s 11. And followed it up with: “And anyway, why’s he called Uncle Larry if his name’s Tom Bukovac?” She never remembers names. You’re among a very few!
I love how this guy can just noodle but play something so profound, all while being so chill. These little times when I noodle in that way I’m really getting out the emotions needed at the time and it speaks, sets you apart
the little riffing on 10cc's "I'm Not in Love" was the cherry on top. Sounds awesome. I have one of Mike's Uncle Larry amps now (purchased based on an awesome demo by some guy) and that's one incredible amp: the harmonics coming off of that thing are off the charts good. The build is super-tidy and you can see some great design decisions in that amp. Now saving my pennies for his Super Deluxe.
I've known Mike Scaggs for decades, growing up in the same home town (Sacramento, CA) and playing in bands together, then winding up in Nashville together. He hooked me up with my first audition in Nashville. A Prince of a man who is as equally gifted in the automotive and IT spheres as he is with building amps and playing multiple instruments.
Agree with everything you said about Mike. His friendship is timeless, and his ability to excel at everything he applies himself to is uncanny. We've shared the same stages in Sacto, and I will always remember the first time I heard you play Michael.
@@michaelgregory2231 Good to hear from you too Michael! I retired in 2021 and we moved to River Valley AR, just east of Fort Smith. I didn't play much for 21 years but getting back at it lately and playing in the praise band at our church.
He only uses an iPhone to make these and during these videos I’ve never once found myself thinking “man I wish it had better quality audio or video.” Other guys have crazy setups, shows its in the hands.
I have a P2P Uncle Larry built by Mike Scaggs. While he was building it for me, I had a few calls and texts with him. He is a most generous man and a brilliant electronics expert!!! Certainly a gift of a person to the guitar community. If anyone of you want a great amp...do yourself a solid and get hooked up with Mike Scaggs... THANKS BUK!!! By the way, my Uncle Larry is the most amazing and delicious sounding amp I own (and I have some vintage Fenders...)
I agree! My Uncle Larry amp is hands down my favorite amp-it sounds like rock & roll, and looks fantastic. And Mike was a joy to work with. Such a kind soul.
EVERY TIME I hear you play, I go grab my guitar. So much so that the other day I was listening to you play a little something and my wife said “that sounds like you playing” 😂😂. I never felt so good about myself!!
You really need to record a proper version of that queen song, I absolutely love it. It reminds of Jeff Beck doing Eleanor Rigby. The clouds go away when Uncle Larry starts to play...
Mike is the best! Built a beautiful amp for me and put me in touch with Tom to buy a guitar. Goes above and beyond and always restores my faith in humanity.
i'm working overtime tonight (i'm a graphic designer in a sign shop) and my night of missing dinner, working late and trying to meet deadlines just got so much better with this upload. the playing is fabulous as always Unc, and Mr. Scank sure knows how to build an amplifier my goodness. Wonderful work, you two! Thanks for the videos man they're great.
That is simply otherworldly playing Tom. I can't wait to get home from work tomorrow, plug in my 57 Goldtop reissue and try to find a great clean tone on my Hot Rod Deluxe. And if I can find just a few of those chords you effortlessly tossed around my day will be made. Thanks brother. I've been here since the beginning and will be til the end.
First and foremost, what a friend you have their Uncle Larry. You really can make an amp come alive. The combination of Mr. Skaggs electronic wizardry and your amazing playing just makes it spectacular. And like others have said, imagine what it will sound like with the new cab and speaker. Its going to be lush!
That ole burst sounds like heaven. The neck pickup is bright and complex. The middle is chimey and nice, and the bridge is magic. What an example. I’ve heard it before but that was an awesome display. Congrats on that awesome guitar and new amp!
Tube Biased trem? So beautiful with that kind of headroom. WHoa! Took a closer look and what beautiful wiring he has. Seductive in sound/vibe and order. That's what talent and hard work looks like. Me likey!
Immediately blown away by the tone. 👏 recovering kemperholic here..just bought a tube amp again after 3 years because of what you said about recording with kempers when layering and stacking in the studio. To which, i concur wholeheartedly, the sonic real estate gets taken up pretty much with one pass, then proceeds to get thinner and thinner as you add more parts. You can’t EQ it or turn the fader up enough! Especially doubled parts! Thanks for the encouragement. Congrats on the amp
Gotta love the real deal tube amps!🤩 I will say liquid profiling may solve some of those issues. To each is their own, Kempers have their place I can see why a session guitarist wouldn’t want to fool with them but I can also see how amazing profiling can be for a lot of people!
I love your rendition of Queens song Tom. You say you’re not a jazz guy but it has jazz chords that you use. Your Les Paul and that Fender amp sound like a match made it heaven man.
Nice tight and round mids, who wouldn't want one of those beautiful sounding amps. On the other hand that burst guitar may be be the secret sauce. Great job there "Scannk" and Tom.
Dude, just caught up with every one of your videos, what a trip. First saw you in a youtube recommended jam of you and Guthrie, going into your rig rundown, ending up on your channel spending 2 months catching up with all episodes. Still can't believe the goldmine that I've stumbled upon, and feeling things slowly unpacking into my playing and listening. Obviously, some priceless shit going on here, mad respect and gratitude. In case you read this, I got one thing to ask about: in your rig rundown, you do the cheeky 5 second pedal reveal with 'Explosions' name dropped into conversation. Going into your channel, I been waiting for the moment, when you gonna pull that thing out and show what kind of trippy witchcraft you can do with it, because on paper, it should be really fitting some of your playing style like a glove. Any chance you'd accept a request to show that thing off?
tom said in the guitar shootout that the way this not a reissue les paul 1958 sunburst feels is so far above the other gibsons in the shootout that it is the best guitar he's ever played even though all the other gibsons are great. i'm happy to agree it is a bucket list legacy instrument in awesome condition. and i'm glad you own it.
Uncle Larry is back in the garage! Great sounding amp...I bought a 40 watt Fender Deluxe and man do I love Fender amps. I can't play through my other amps anymore. My modeling amps are now in the attic in storage. I love hearing a nice Les Paul clean through a Fender amp...thanks for that Tom!
Halleluja for great real tube amps. Real music played through real amps. Modellers can sound great for a moment, then it just empty calories and hard to listen to. No soul :-)
@@jcripp7974 2002 reissue with the cream color....the tubes have all been upgraded and it's been rebiased but I bought it from a guitar tech who did the upgrades..It's a wonderful amp.
@@gregmock6808 A black face Deluxe and the relatively newer ones are my favorite amp. My second or. My other favorite is a Princeton. I recorded with one and fell in love with it. I like low wattage tube amps. Easier to get where I'm going. Anyway. Thanks for the info.
Beautiful sounding amp!, you are the one that will get the best that it has to offer out of it! Cant wait to hear it when it is done. Thank You. Mr. Buk!
A guy playing guitar through a half assembled amp in a garage, filmed with an iPhone and it sounds like a full concert. Could it be a result of dedicating a lifetime to an instrument or is it a great iPhone… 🤔Amazing! 🙏
There are good people out there still! Essentially if you're a good person too! That amp sounds pretty killer too from what I can hear!! I wish I would have played more when I was younger!! All you younger people watching and learning, stick with it you will be happy you did!!!!
Queen!!! I love hearing you do these melodic things!!! I was at a buddy’s studio in Nashville a few weeks ago and he played me some isolated vocals from Freddie Mercury. Crazy good…and deadly on key! Which you don’t hear much anymore.
