@@roverandmorerestore7266 my speedo works, S light blinks, revs fine, acceleration is slow but drives fine, is it the speed sensor or the TCU? 1991 Honda Accord LX sedan
Hey great video, my son has a 04 honda civic, its doing the same thing we’ve switched the solenoids and replaced tranny. Smh speed sensor is next. Thanks for the video
Yesssss. Perfect video. I was GIVEN a car because the owner thought the transmission was slipping and failing. So...I noticed that yes it kinda slips but still rather good. Only sluggish if I stop and then go up a hill. I also noticed the speedometer only works sometimes. So I furthered my investigation and determined the problem was in our face the whole time. The speed sensor. It's a 98 avalon. Don't jerk yet rather surges or kinda pulls. Do I see the difference between THE TRANSMISSION slipping and something causing the tranny to slip. There is a difference
Goodlookin bro ,,, this video really came in handy, but to my dismay I think it might actually be something in my wiring harness,,,, still this sounded exactly like when I got my 91 EX ,,, thanks man ,,peace!
A dealer replaced the VSS on my ‘90 Accord and it worked, but then there was a new problem with power surges. Dealer wouldn’t admit they were responsible. A different mechanic found the problem: the dealer mechanic had pulled all those hoses going into the fuel injection housing, and put two of them back in the wrong place (transposition) Dealer said they checked the vacuum hoses. So dealers aren’t always the best, especially for older cars. I noticed all the other customers had new cars and the mechanics are used to working on them. My car was probably as old as the kid working on it.
Hello CS and thank you for your advice! That’s such a simple yet confusing cause to your power surges. So maybe I should check mine up at some old school mechanic shop
This is the main another reason I do everything on my car if I can It may take longer time for me to look diagrams, read procedures, watch videos, etc. but I enjoy the troubleshooting lol
@@roverandmorerestore7266dude, I wanted to get the sensor out so I knew which sensor to get on Amazon, I took out the air intake to make things easier, got the sensor out, put it back in, put the air intake in, and now when I start the car the engine shakes and stutters, I’m worried and don’t know what it could be, help me!!!!
Oh boy thank you, I got a 95 that doesnt slip but the D4 light keeps flashing and I got a code for the speed sensor, it drives fine but when I change gear ie from Park to Drive or Reserve, it kicks like a mule, I will see if a new sensor fix the issue
Do u know how to calibrate speed sensor on 2002 honda accord ex manual transmission? I just rplaced it but still having speedometer stick jumping problems
I got a question i have a 92 Honda Accord automatic it won’t go past 40mph unless I pull over turn it off and on it fine for awhile then I have to do it again but my instruments work I changed the speed sensor but it still do the same thing need help don’t know what to do next and I tried to pull codes but no codes come up
Hmm that’s strange. That is Deffinetly not a speed sensor issue. Maybe one of the transmission sensors, maybe needs oil. Please let us know when you figure it out!
@@roverandmorerestore7266 the previous owner mentioned that the reason the speedometer is off is because there's something wrong with one of the wires. Would you recommend? I really want to try to tackle this problem myself instead of getting charged a ridiculous amount by going to a mechanic.
@@fl0restrella you can always get a speed sensor for real cheap on amazon and overnight ship. If that doesn’t do it the it would be time for more troubleshooting
Any ideas on a manual transmission, my 91 dx sedan does read but less on low speed high on high speed, would the speed sensor be the case or it may be something on the speedometer unit? it just star doing it! Greetings.
Hi I just recently trying to find if its my transmission and a coworker told me it could be this sensor, I own a 2011 optima its doing what you say in the beginning rpm go up but car doesn't accelerate, feels like it hesitates like transmission is slipping. Also sometimes when I let go off the gas prdal the RPM get stuck and car keeps driving as if I had cruise control on, I then step on the gas pedal and it unlocks.Did this fix your issue?? And did your car accelerate slow before this?? Thank you
It could very well be. This is a much more affordable part to start off instead of going straight into a trans replacement. Erratic behaviors could also be cause by faulty transmission control units. Either way a mechanic should look at it. Then decide if do it in your own
My Honda Accord 2000, SE, has P1740 code, Hydraulic Control System of A/T Clutch Pressure. When I step on the gas there is a delay of the speedometer but the rpm goes up. I have to accelerate past 20 mph just to get it to shift into second and third.
I have Honda prelude si 4WS 5 speeds 1990 and my speedometer stop working for the past 9 years. Any suggestions how to fixes this problem. Thank you in advance
I suggest first checking/replacing the speed sensor. then if that doesn’t work then check your cluster gauge to see if working properly. If none then it’s a fuse or electrical issue.
I have a 1990 accord lx automatic transmission in a 93 honda accord se cb7.engine..will this speed sensor. Work in my car.? Please reply. Thanks. March 30 2021
I drive 91 Accord MT. I replaced the speed sensor in it and the MPH meter won't go and it won't rack up the miles so now it's un accurate. Everything else in the cluster works except for the MPH meter. Any thoughts ?
@@roverandmorerestore7266 absolutely I repeated the process with/ without the link to feel the difference in tension since you have to press down on the pin the get it to stay engaged while tightening the bolts. The cluster has always been this way. I believed that changing the speed sensor would solve my problems in terms of MPH meter and milage not working. Maybe there is a sort or some sort of issue that I'm not completely aware of. Again everything on the cluster works except for MPH meter and Milage/Trip meter.
@@roverandmorerestore7266 I don't have Facebook or anything like that. If you could give me the name of a yard that may have one I can call to see if they'll ship it. They have a few around here but I need Palmy Blue. Also I was gonna ask if the speed sensor is still working well? I just replaced the tcu & now I need the speed sensor also. Check engine light comes on & sport light is flashing after driving for a mile.
I'm looking to buy a 94 accord, when I test drove it when I accelerated fla out it went to like 50mph and felt like it dropped a gear and didn't go anywhere, is this the problem you had?
I can’t exactly say if this is the issue but I can tell you it’s worth a try to disconnect your sensor and see if it works better. May have delays in shifting but just see if it still slips
@@roverandmorerestore7266 if I disconnect the sensor it should work better? I don't want to buy one with a broken trans cause those cars are quite rare here in Brazil and parts would be pretty expensive
@@pauloesteves4804 it COULD probably work a little better if disconnected from connector harness. But not for a permanent fix as it will have delayed shifting,no spedometer. Most important sign of this sensor going wrong is that the speedometer does not work
Just to Clarify you are not able to move the vehicle until you replaced the sensor correct I believe I have the same situation but with a 2003 the sensor looks completely different but I believe it's the same problem as Iam getting a speed sensor output no signal code
Hey Mark! Passenger side footwell, by the door trim there is a connector port. Kind of small. You put a paper clip that bridges it.loop back plug. Turn the car to battery and codes should flash . Google the code list too
@@roverandmorerestore7266 I’ve got the same issue I’m pretty sure on my 1998 Honda Accord Ex I’ll be driving then when I hit a stop sign and and try to press the gas right away it’ll stall then kick forwards like I wanna burnout or some and it’ll rev really high then kick forwards if I press on the gas it’ll take a second to get speed 1st and 2nd after that it’s fine
@@roverandmorerestore7266 I just wanna see what you think before I go and buy the speed sensor because I’m having all the same problems you were explaining in the video
@@roverandmorerestore7266 oh alright I appreciate it I know you can’t fully tell me obviously but the video gave me some information I’ll look into it because my transmission was fine when I got the car but then 2 weeks later started acting weird
