For the longest time it was all about power to weight ratio… and it still is to a point but this is the era of transmissions. Used to be a debate of manual vs automatic and it wasn’t even hardly a debate as manuals have almost always traditionally been faster but now you’ve got CVT vs DCT vs 8&10speed torque converter transmissions and they’re making all the difference in outcomes in races. I’m personally more of a fan of the DCTs and 10 speeds, I think they should be the industry standard going forward.
Not everyone cares about a car that will drive and handle well, putting a DCT, and 10 spd in a car is not cheap and the buyer’s pocket will notice that.
That’s when zf8 speed comes in play it is the best automatic ever to this date ! Most high performance cars / trucks use it! Including new Supra, Hellcats/demons / track hawks/ new m5/m4/m3 and more!
@@HD_Kerino Oh completely agree…. That’s how we end up with the environment we have now where manufacturers can’t agree on which transmission to put in their own models let alone what they should have as competition to their rivals. Cost is THE major factor for most cars so I completely understand why civics and nissans come with CVTs…. And in theory a CVT should be perfect from a performance perspective…. And in 10-20 years maybe CVTs will be light years better but if I had to guess gasoline engines and all the fancy advances in transmissions will be the equivalent of the new technology that was showing up in horse buggies right before cars came out. (None of this is going to matter in 20-40years with electric antonymous drones/cars on the horizon)
I Don't know, maybe because the other car has forced induction? Plus the J Series 3.5L is not a DOHC engine and only has VTEC on the intake side. My Honda Element AWD has an engine swapped from a Acura TSX and N/A tuned for 300 HP. If the Element wasn't so heavy, I could possible take on both cars.
@@applepoop10 true but forced induction is kinda just unfair. With a stage 2 tune and some mods this car would walk whatever NA V6 is out there. I have mine at 310whp and 330wtq weighing at 3298lbs
the TLX AWD adds alot weight, but handling is apples to oranges. I've driven many Accords and TL/TLX over the last twenty years, and nothing compares with the handling of the AWD system on those Acura's. Straight line speed, the Honda is lighter, but I've taken a TLX on a mountain twisting road and never felt threatened on what speed I was going and left many cars behind. Lastly, the AWD in bad weather like rain and snow is crazy good.
@@youngsneaker5382 I am from ghana and a lot of guys believe the c300 is quicker than the accord. Been wanting a video to show the people here Lol. Even the e300
Yeah I had a 2017 accord v6 and that thing is a monster, gearing is perfect imo. Now have the 2020 2.0t accord and it’s impressive but I fee like the v6 accord would launch harder
@@dominicjeanb2063 my 2015 was plenty quick. From a 20 or a 50, it was deceivingly quick (for what it is). Quicker than my J37 swapped Type S. I think the 2.0T shines after 60 but would still be interesting to see.
Yeah. Agreed. I like this version of the TLX 2020 A spec better than the current type S. Type S is waaay to overpriced and is weaker compared to competition.
To be fair, a current gen BMW 330i, Genesis G70 2.0T, and Mercedes C300 would also lose to the Accord. So a previous gen TLX losing to an Accord isn't a big shocker.
@@garys2157 Sam already raced the Accord vs the 330i xDrive. The Honda won 2 of the dig races and *all* the roll races. The Bimmer edged ahead in a dig race when traction control was disabled.
Unless those are lightweight aftermarket rims, he made it slower by putting heavier bigger rims on the TLX. Probably could've taken the W, or been very close.
Definitely would not of taken the W, but at least would’ve put up a fight. The rims make a difference, but not drastic enough to make the TLX win because the races weren’t close.
@@Anakin0217 I timed before and after with lightweight rims and got half second quicker 0-60 with Dragy, that's a huge difference imo. So, definitely helps off the line, but not a huge difference on a roll.
The FWD 1G TLX would have made for a closer contest. I had a 19 3.5 PAWS base, which was relatively bare bones compared with the A-Spec SH-AWD but lighter and quicker.
The FWD version of the TLX A-Spec ran 14.2 @ 103 mph in the 1/4 mile. For some reason the AWD TLX A-Spec only ran 14.6 @ 96 mph. I know it's heavier, but it should have trapped at least 100 mph or more. I want to see the Accord 2.0T 10A versus the FWD TLX A-Spec V6. That would be awesome.
I wonder how the TLX would do if it had the better 10 speed found in the Accord. The TLX's 9 speed really blows. No doubt the Accord is the better deal.
Yeah I mean even the 8 speed the 4 cylinder TLX gets is a better trans really weird they wouldn’t give either of those to the top end TLX of that model year
@@mackfar27 Acura is the upscale brand of Homda. This means the Acura will have better appointments and options than its it's less brothers at a higher price point.
Oh TLX...its tough to pay at least $10k more for bells and jingles but no performance at all. Even the Type S, the best of TLX, can't beat any of its competition 🙈. And what did the Acura guy say? The performance division of Honda??? Honestly it's more like Honda is the performance division of Acura 😎.
You want a 4200lb luxury sport sedan to beat competitors 500 lbs less is obviously not going to happen… but to say the car has no performance because it’s not beating it’s competitors with more horsepower is kind of saying the NSX has no performance because it can’t beat its competitors lmao and there’s performance in the Type S but Acura knows people will tune the car once bought so why would they waste the resources to do so themselves… they don’t need the extra propaganda because they know when to compete and when to chill… TLX is a chill car… you want a quick luxury sedan for 60k go with Kia or Lexus
You could argue anyway you want but if Acura released a car that can't beat any of its competition, honestly that's sad. Especially the Type S. It's definitely the performance version of its lineup, but it just can't win a drag race. I bet you the Type R (lighter but with much smaller engine) would likely walk the Type S in 1/2 mile even with FWD launch issue. Accord has proven to beat any TLX A Spec effortlessly. I'm pretty sure Civic hatch touring would also walk the top ILX model. So to say that Acura is the performance division of Honda just sounds WRONG. Perhaps it should say Acura is the Luxury division of Honda. LOL. Tuning? So if u tune your Type S and ppl are tuning their cars, most likely they Type S will get smoked again. How about their approach they have on the new Integra (going back to its roots???), The new design is heavily inspired by the old Integra? Really?? Unfortunately NONE of what they said made sense to me. The Integra prototype would've been perfect if it was the new gen ILX. Don't get me wrong, I used to be an Acura fan and had many Acuras in the past. But as time goes, I think Acura has been really DISAPPOINTING, and I'm not the only one disappointed. Not sure what their visions are. But all I can say is Good Luck to Acura.
I have an Accord Sport 2.0t, my coworker has a TLX the same as the on in this video. I sent him this video on Friday for a laugh. Not sure if he found it funny or not lol
Hey Sam whenever you do the roll races with the accord 2.0t I usually use paddle shifters but I left it shift for me after I take off I just use it because the accord has a slow peddle command when flooring it in automatic mode.
I am seeing Dyno numbers of stock 10th Gen 2.0t Accords in the 280 HP / 310 Tq (15% corrected) that is well above stock for number. I think Honda may have understated the 2.0t Accord on purpose. AWD would be nice, but that adds weight and I think it would be slower than the TLX A-Spec at that point. If I could have found a TLX Type-S for a good price I would have gone that route, but I ended up buying a used 10th gen 2.0t Touring and it is a nice around the town cruiser for my use.
Honestly embarrassed at Acura. No Accord should beat a TLX. That's why I will keep driving my 2012 TL-SHAWD until Acura makes a sub 4 second car. It's gotta do at least 3.9 sec 0-60 for me to consider putting any money towards one. Otherwise, just save your money and buy the Accord. Or a 10 year old Mercedes or BMW or a 2013 Audi RS7. Props to the Accord for punching above its weight class!
I keep researching different cars I think would be fast and fun, only to almost inevitably find they cost more and aren't much if any faster than the 2.0t Accord. I guess I'll just have to accept it and get an Accord.

Every pound counts specially on a 4 banger. Knew it was the TLX but everyone did a great job of pointing fingers so went way off. Liked the trivia question, unique to your content. Love it.
Y’all need to get a 2017 accord v6 to go against the 2.0. I raced a 2.0 last night and he got off the line first but I caught up and we were neck and neck. Would be a great video.
Bullshit. Stock for stock from a dead stop. The 2.0T wipes the floor against the V6. You are not catching up and a ton of videos show this. I have owned both and currently a 21 Touring.
@@brenttitus2134🧢 v6 gets him off the line easy but the the 2.0T comes back and takes it in the end. Simple math. V6 and higher displacement vs turbo lag and smaller engine with better low end torque and a near 250lb weight advantage (120ish for a 2.0 Touring) 🤷🏾♂️💯📠
That 1st Gen TLX doesn't look at all stock. Clearly lowered giving likely better aerodynamics than factory height and aftermarket wheels, are they lighter or heavier than stock?
And that is why I will never buy Acura again. Currently have the 1st gen A-Spec and the car is extremely bad when it comes to performance. Even with the new Type-S or Type-Slow it’s such an embarrassment to the brand that there is no hope for them unless next year they push the power to at least 410+ HP.
The biggest problem with Acuras is their unnecessary weight. That old TLX is 3840lbs and the new one is over 4100. Thats why they always get gapped by cars in their same class.
