Thanks Jabo , I was wondering about my water pump functioning properly , it seems to be, when the fans finally kicked on the air was hot. still haven't figured out why its dumping the coolant in the overflow , i drive a 100 mile a day & am adding about 1/2 pint in it a day, runs fine otherwise, no oil in coolant...no coolant in oil 345K miles & I've had it since near new & have always taken care of it . i get little trickles of air bubbles in full coolant tank. I super flushed the entire coolant system ,radiator, heater & engine block all separately , ran 150 miles with thermostat removed & radiator flush fluid in system, flushed again & put all back together & refilled with proper coolant & purged...still the same.
@JaboTheMechanic
@JaboTheMechanic 3 года назад
What other things did you check did you check the radiator cap that could cause it to purge out did you check compression in each cylinder to make sure that the compressions not low you might have a blown head gasket or you could have a bad water pump from improper flow that would cost it to build-up pressure over heat and overflow into the over flow tank

Hey Jabo we just had the head gasket, water pump and timing belt done about a month ago on my son's car and now it's pumping water out the resevior. Before taking it back to the mechanic that did the work we changed the thermostat, radiator cap and radiator. So having that issue. His fans do engage so they're good. Is it possible that he's gasket messed up that soon or the water pump?

I have a '05 civic with 186,000kms. (Live in Canada) I've only had it for 4 months now and had MANY overheating issues since! I've replaced rad, hoses, thermostat (OEM), sensor on thermostat housing, and bled the system many times. It didn't over heat for about a month after all that was replaced, but then it overheated AGAIN last week. I saw my fans weren't kicking on so I checked and found a bad fuse. Replaced it which fixed the fan problem, but when it overheats it pukes coolant everywhere from the overflow tank.... Now I'm having the popular problem where it sometimes blows hot air when I'm driving (sometimes just cool air), and cool air when I'm stopped/idling... I don't want to load the parts cannon anymore but I'm aiming toward waterpump (I'm told after 180,000kms it should be done) but I don't know. I'm just tired of thinking I've fixed it and then BAM I'm back to square one. PLEASE give me an idea of where to go with this...either rad cap, water pump or head gasket?? PS. Would not puting the OEM coolant in, be an issue? I'm asking cuz I was told these cars only run properly with OEM stuff..?

My civic isn’t overheating (the radiator cooling fan is coming on as normal) but the coolant overflow bottle is always full but when I check the coolant level in the radiator it more low then other times, is this normal? Is the overflow bottle and the radiator both always supposed to be full? (My mechanic says it’s not a head gasket problem)
@michaelg6641
@michaelg6641 2 года назад
I think the radiator cap can definitely be an issue as my coolant was simply disappearing and gauge would go way up but never actually overheated, so I changed mine twice, and the second one I noticed had a real firm seal as I screwed it on and topped up the coolant with the 5050. I got the more expensive $10 cap instead of the cheaper one at ORileys.

I bought a new Honda thermostat on line that Ill have put on next. Actually last summer it got so hot it went into limp mode, which I didn't know civic had that, (but it was driving it hard though) and it barely ran until I got home. But it recovered next day and been fine since, after I checked oil and r. fluid. Somehow if I forget to llook for a week or 3, the fluid will disappear, both times in Arizona and Nevada, where its super hot in summer like 90 - 100 all day long. I'm trying to diagnose the issue on an 03 Civic. Car was losing power while driving no matter how hard I gassed it. Both brake & gas pedals felt stuck. Needles would all go down near zero. While parking, I couldn't even reverse the car as engine was not responding to the gas pedal. It worked after letting car sit to cool down. But within minutes of driving, started to lose power & overheat. (Needle doesn't point to H) Made it home just in time as I was seeing white smoke coming up the passenger side of the engine. -Fans blow fine. -AC & heater blows fine. -Did not see any coolant leakages. -Car battery is new. -No electrical issues though. Car starts up strong everytime & gears shift without a problem. First thing I will do is replace the air filter. It was dirty. I assume there's a clog somewhere & hopefully no additional issues. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks for the vid too it was a great general diagnostics for overheating issues.

@emangee9268
@emangee9268 Год назад
A blown head gasket can be causing your vehicle to over heat, best way to know if you've got a blown head gasket is by checking your engine oil. If your engine oil does not look clean and it looks milky, then you've got your engine oil mixing with the coolant. The cylinder head gasket would need to be replaced and the cylinder head should be pressure tested and worked on by a machine shop.

D16V1 cooling problem is known! The point is that the expansion tank should be filled to the maximum level when the engine is warm, and the radiator should be filled to the maximum level as well. If there is still air in the system, the car should be parked on a sloping driveway with the front facing upwards. With a warm engine, idle the car and turn the heat to maximum and set the internal air circulation to on. Remove the radiator cap and wait until all the air comes out through the radiator. When no more air is visible coming out of the radiator, the engine speed can be increased to 1500-2000 rpm. This further circulates the water and more air will come out of the system at this point. As air comes out of the system, the radiator should be continuously refilled. After this process, there should be no more problems. Every mechanic told me that my car had a blown head gasket, this was 6 years ago, and there has been no problem to this day! I hope I was able to help...
@neuro82h
@neuro82h Год назад
Hi! After that procedure, did you set the reservoir tank between the min-max level? Or how did you mean max. level, fill it up completely or just up to the maximum indication on the reservoir? I also have a problem that looks like a head gasket failure, however, there is no coolant in the oil and no oil in the coolant, also no exhaust gas in the coolant. Only a symptom, which is, the coolant level always goes up in the reservoir (until it fills it up completely eventually) and gets lower in the radiator. But does not disappear from the system, only moves from here to there, if I fill it back to the radiator, it looks good again. Perhaps this is only an issue of an improper coolant change, air bubbles can be in the system? Happens after I was at a mechanic who turned out doesn't really do Hondas, or japanese cars at all.

Hello, my Honda only heats up once I stop at a red light. Once I step on the gas and go, the needle starts to come back down. Also after leaving the engine on and running in parked, after about 20 mins, it starts to heat up but not as fast as when I am driving. I took it to a shop and they told me that the bigger fan is not a original part it is a universal fan n therefore the big fan is not performing what it is suppose to and it’s causing the smaller fan to over work n may possibly be y the car overheats. Is this correct? Because the big fan works, but yes it is not the original part.

I love how you mention everything but one of the most common actual issues with this car that could cause overheating. A blown head gasket. If your civic is overheating (especially after running it at highway speeds), and you keep on having coolant getting pushed out of your reservoir, its very likely you have a blown headgasket causing exhaust gases to enter your cooling system and push out the coolant with enough pressure (for me its about 15 minutes of highway driving and then if I stop at a light off the highway I will overheat because I have no more coolant in the car).

My 2004 Honda Civic started overheating. I changed the coolant temperature sensor, fan switch sensor, new thermostat, new radiator, and new radiator cap. I don't know what the problem is now. Clearly not the head gasket because I took out the spark plugs and pressure tested while the spark plugs were off and no sign of pressure drop. Any suggestions?
@Nellyyyyyyyy
@Nellyyyyyyyy 2 года назад
I believe you did a compression test if you removed your spark plug. doesn’t really tell you if your head gasket is bad, usually tests your the Piston rings and valve seal. If you want to test your head gasket you would have to pressure test it on the radiator cap. A good indicator to see if your head gasket is bad is if it overheats on long drives, and coolant spills over reservoir. On these Hondas

My car overheats and coolant starts squirting out all over my hood and windshield after driving it for a bit. Especially after I go uphill. Just had the water pump, radiator cap and thermostat replaced. I found a slight crack in the radiator and that's where the coolant is squirting from. Went today and purchased a new radiator but here's the weird part....prior to seeing the crack in the radiator my hose that goes to the overflow kept popping off and antifreeze was squirting from it and my radiator cap is stays cold even after long trips. Everyone I talk to about the radiator cap says they've never heard of that before. Do you know what the issue may be with my car in general? Thanks
