I am a Hyundai car salesman and have driven the Veloster N (performance pack 275hp) enough to know that this is one of the best handling cars that you can possibly buy under $50,000 in general, let alone for a hot hatch, it grips corners like no other vehicle has and I have driven a modified Civic type R and Focus RS and they just don’t grip the same at all

I like this comparison. Somehow people still think that the Veloster N isn't a real hot hatch. This just confirms how potent it can actually be when driven hard and making small alignment changes that help improve track dynamics even more. This is even with Honda's trick front suspension geometry that almost eliminates torque steer. Both cars are impressive. I do prefer the looks of the Hyundai better than the Honda. However I have always been a huge fan of Honda's so normally I would lean my bias toward the Honda. This makes me look at things differently though. Simply because I really enjoy the looks of the Veloster more. I also think the Civic is over styled, over the top and bit of a spectacle rather than an actual beauty. I think it isn't going to age very well, but I could be wrong. Still, I would love to have either car. I just wish that Hyundai would bring over the "i30 N" instead of just giving us the Elantra Sport with the 1.6 turbo. Incase anyone isn't familiar with the i30, it is just the Elantra with a different name in other markets. However, the i30 N gets the same blue paint highlights that the Veloster N gets and it comes with the same engine as well. So imagine a Elantra Sport Hatchback with the same performance as this Veloster N. That would be a much more direct comparison to the Civic since both would be 4 door hatchbacks and both would be turbo 4 pots pushing great numbers compared to stock, using mainly tuning and a couple small upgrades for flow.

It would show how good the chassis work. Honda with a 70 hp advantage on this comparison with a huge brake upgrade also made to the Honda also is a joke. You do have to keep the offsets in mind if you want to replace the stock ones. Road and Track did an article on how the Type R's front suspension is dependent on having wheels with the right offset in order for it to handle well. Modded cars are always tough to compare - especially when put together by individuals of varying skill/resources/experience. Glad you mentioned the meth injection at the end. Big helper for consistency on turbo cars running pump gas. Hard to draw too many conclusions since the variances between cars (brake pads, meth, alignment) are significant for track use and could sway the lap times in either car's favor. Still, the N is a great value and Hyundai has come a long way - don't think it knocked the CTR off its perch yet though.

long Opinion... from a , unexpected, Proud owner of A Hyundai 2020 Veloster Turbo Ultimate with Pinkslip and all. I traded in my Impreza 14' (base bleh) thinking of getting 2020 Accord Turbo sport(to big, not special), WRX eh expensive and still cheapy, VW(nahh), I cant drive manual all day to lack of limbs haha. This means no Type R even SI!(expensive asf). Then I found the Veloster's 'new, clean/sharp/trim' after ignoring the Fugly prior version from 2013-2016. U MUST at least get the turbo trim, it looks and comes with more features and amazing warranty which i use alot. I get 28.8 Mpg, after 6.8k miles (trip) from average to rippin it ;) but without using sport mode/high revs easy 36-42mpg. The car handles so freely, seemingly floating while hitting corners and it smart/fast. I work for a wholesale++ Auction Tech company working out of my velost. with a large virtual lift tons of tools, jump boxes, equipment. I love the surprisingly large sized trunk and 3 door design making it easy to get to my large lift through rear third door. . The compact size makes it easy to get around crowded places. Sound slaps stock too and great infotainment. Making this my first very car I plan on driving all the way past warrant expiration and or getting the 2021-22 Velost Turb N in a trade in(new 8 speed DCT i hear is awesome!). I own an N and I absolutely love it. But the CTR is a faster car (and quite a bit more expensive) in terms of out-of-the box capability. While the stock N can sustain tremendous lateral acceleration, the CTR can sustain lateral acceleration that is heroic. Once we start talking about modifications, effectively we have two track-oriented cars where the modifications themselves are going to influence which car is faster, along with the driver, of course.
