My new bike, The Honda CRF300 has completed 1000 Kilometers (Kms) in Pattaya Thailand since purchasing it four months ago. It's time for the first service on the CRF and a long term review. I will discuss the pros and cons, the good and the bad from my 1000 KMs through the streets of Pattaya and also the modifications I've made along the way. This review is mainly for on road, not an off road review. Enjoy the Ride!

The 450L is based on the 450R race bike, high strung motor just de-tuned and choked up to meet emission standards, race bike style frame and ergos and proper adjustable race suspension just valved for dual sport riding, but it also needs services like a race bike. For what you do the 300L is perfect unless you want to get more into some serious off roading and jump table tops and stuff

The "Gear Shift Light" is adjustable to any RPM you want . Just adjust it to a higher RPM via the Menu on the Dashboard if you think its too low . The Shift light is handy once you adjust it to your riding style

The 450 is usually a race bike with number plates as No yours is just a run around bike that can go in the bush I had a klx 450 and it was absolutely savage and so fast Too fast for me so I sold it and got a klx400 which is more rideable but still goes when I want it to I have the bigger rims for off road and a set of motard wheels for on the road Takes half an hour to swap over and then it’s a dirt bike with smaller road wheels on 😍😍👍👍

If they made that 300 into a 450 with the same service intervals and weight, it'd sell like hot cakes, but the 450RL is too much of a race bike for my liking. Would like a KLX300, but they aren't coming to Australia.

Great little bike R4K bound to be a couple of little teething troubles especially when you mod something. Me personally for a city bike I reckon I'd either go for a motard that's prebuilt for the road, purely because I think youd get a bigger tank and better tyre/brake setup Or I'd get a scooter as just think shopping/luggage and passenger wise they're more practical in the city. But I know you like to do a bit off road and the bigger engine on that bike is great so completely get why you chose it. Glad your still happy with it 👍🏼👌🏻 Useful and informative as always R4K big thumbs up from UK 🇬🇧

Thailand likely uses a fuel rating similar to E.U., which is just RON, whereas Canada and the U.S. use an average of RON plus MON to derive a fuel octane rating. In Canada and the U.S. 87 fuel is roughly equal to 91 in the E.U. Also, the "buzziness" that you are feeling in the bars is partially due to the fact that the factory bar weights were removed in order to install the handguards.

That is great service and all-in-all you received a good value. If you were charged that just taking it in, I'd be a bit unhappy. I pay 60 Baht for a .8L bottle of petroleum based (not synthetic) oil. You might be able to turn the shift light off or even set where you want it to come on in the digital display menu. I did that on my Suzuki.

Back in the mid 80s I tore my foot up on foot pegs like that. Perfect storm of tourist rental, flip-flops, and 20-something bravado. Happened on Koh Samui. Back then a trip between Koh Samui and Bangkok was an overnight trip. When I got back to my Bangkok hotel I asked for a doctor. Doc came, gave me a couple horse-pill size doses on penicillin and told me another day or so I'd have lost my foot to gangrene.

Fuel octane is not a measure of fuel quality or power, high octane is for high compression engines, so it doesn't pre-ignite under pressure.

A couple of possible reasons on the pricing. The CRF300 is based on the old 250 and is a pretty low end motor and base level running gear, whereas the CRF450 is based on the much higher performing 450 dirtbike motor and uses higher spec suspension etc.. The 450 is also not manufactured in Thailand, whereas the 350 I believe is (as was the 250).

Aftermarket accessories are frequently the cause of minor electrical problems. It's why I don't bother with them. Good bike. I feel the same about my KTM 390. It soaks the bumps up. I prefer my twist and go for round the city, though. I like how your registration plate is attached now. I put 95 in both my machines. They haven't half tidied up the area below the Pattaya City sign.

For the parking, the spaces are designed for small scooters with a central stand - the bike then doesn't lean over which takes up far more space than you think - esp for tall adventure bikes etc. Using my centre stand on my 'Adventure' bikes in the garage takes up much less space.

I can't speak about Honda, but a friend of mine and I were traveling in Eastern Tennessee and his Harley had an electrical problem. We managed to get his trike to a Harley dealer in Knoxville (Bootlegger HD) and they had their service technicians (all of them) work to repair his trike. It was after hours when they started and they identified the problem as a wire breaking inside the plastic covering. He had a maintenance warranty and it cost him $48. I am curious what a HD dealer in Thailand would have done.

Lucas, some maybe usefull tips. For chain lubrication I would use grease. On my kawasaki boss the chain took at least three times longer to wear out. Put an extension at the end of the cover of your chain to stop getting oil dirt from your chain on your license plate . It is way too short. And whenwill they start taking down that ugly building on the background near the pattaya sign.

My question, If a CRF300M was available like the discontinued CRF250M (the supermoto version W 17 inch rims) would you have bought a supermoto version instead with the smaller street tires? I think that 40b fee was likely a new crush washer on the drain plug. Assuming the CRF uses one. The CR450L is a very different bike. I wouldn't want a bike with a 1800 mile valve check interval.
@Rides4Kickz
@Rides4Kickz 3 года назад
I was never a fan of the motard version. I like the big 21" front wheel, but it depends what the use would be, if I got on a highway with it everyday at faster speeds than I would probably get that, but for putting around town at 30mph or under with speed bumps every where you look, I'd prefer the bigger wheels.
