I collected my Honda e just over a week ago, and I'm pleased to say the range is better than I was expecting. The delivery date was delayed by about a month (July to August time) so that a software update could be made to the cars (already in the UK) before delivery to customers, and that update seems to have improved the range noticably. The demo car that I drove at the end of June only seemed to give about 100 miles per 100% charge, but my car (with 16" wheels rather than the wider 17" wheels) seems so far to be easily giving me about 145 miles range. From my calculations I'd estimate that the usable battery capacity is about 31.2 kWh, rather than the about 28.5 kWh of the demo car and the early cars like the one Bjorn drove. In the demo car I only managed 3.6 miles/kWh but in mine I'm getting about 4.6 - 4.8 miles/kWh average. I'm very happy with that!

Yeah, I mean, if you live and drive around in a place like Tokyo metropolitan area this thing has got your commuting needs covered... and it's also easier to park, so I presume it will sell well in that kind of places provided there's the charging infrastructure already deployed.

@Jay Em you mean like the honda hybrid / ima battery systems? I hope you are joking.
@Pikminiman
@Pikminiman 4 года назад
@@jorakarandas6592 : I agree, Honda's IMA hybrid system isn't very good. I should know, my daily driver is a 2006 Civic Hybrid. But the reliability data seems to indicate that Honda's current hybrid system is extremely reliable, and it shares nothing with the old Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system. IMA is basically a belt-and-pulley CVT transmission with two electric motors. It adds complexity compared to just having a transmission. The new Honda hybrid system, however, has no transmission at all. With such a common point of failure just gone, it's down to the reliability of the electric motors, which are ridiculously simple mechanisms and proportionately reliable. Unfortunately, Honda has really fallen behind on hybrid car efficiency. Honda offers better hybrid car driving dynamics and performance, but at high speed, a current Honda Insight gets 42 MPG while a current Toyota Corolla Hybrid gets 54+ MPG, meaning the Honda gets 22% worse fuel economy at best.

@@yourcrazybear For me range is not the most important thing. It's the speed and availability of fast chargers that matters. I drive a Tesla M3P, and do around 50.000 km/year. I also drive longer trips of up to 1.000 km in a day, and I see no problem having an electric car, since it charges at 175-250 KwH/hour, which means a 15 minute stop every two hours.

Inspired by Bjørn and his testing procedure, I have done the same 120 km / h test on my Hyundai Ioniq 28. Constant 120 km/h GPS i.e. on Ioniq 125 km/h on cruise. The total distance was 50.9 km. Air temp. was 24° C and battery temp. at both start and end also 24° C. No A/C. The trip was done with a consumption of 14.6 kWh/100km. Return trip was 15.8 kWh/100km. The overall average was therefore 15.2 kWh/100km. This consumption that Ioniq achieves here, there are hardly any other electric cars that can cope with.

Mgoblagulkablong while I agree with you 100%, what's not acceptable of this car is the battery consumption. A similar car as the Mini E, with a similar battery, will do 120km/h at around 15-16 kwh, even uphill it's difficult to get it over 20 kwh. The small battery-less weight is great if it reduces consumption. Not the case here at all... so while it may be enough, it's so inefficient it's not worth it. Too bad since design/technology wise this was my number 1 option.

@@Mgoblagulkablong but more range means less often recharging it. Not every car owner has the possibility to recharge at home :)

@@Mgoblagulkablong for what I would use is 70 km to work, then back. After 12 hours working don't wanna go to look for a charger so I could start driving home.

Indeed 17 inches wheels are a tad too big, with 16 inches low rolling resistance ones should get 5-10km more of range

For a company that also produced the Honda Insight (the original) you'd think they could make a more efficient car. Looks are great

Even in The Netherlands the range is not enough to go from the middle of the country to one of the corners (Groningen or Zeeland). A drive from less than 2 hours.

Actually the range would be absolutely acceptable if and only if the charging speed would be 2020 or at least 2019 so 70kw+. If this would be possible I would be happy to stop every 150km for 20 min or so but definitely not 60 minutes.

That would be presuming a charger was wherever you needed to stop and available.

225 section tyres? On a city car?? Narrower tyres would easily increase that range to over 200km.

Its a very nice car, but what lets it down is the price. Given the competition from many other EVs in that price range, I don't know how anyone can justify owning one. It's just a fashion accessory at the moment. Maybe next year when they see the poor sales they will lower the price to a more reasonable level. The battery is still too small for a 2020 Ev regardless of what they do.

There are 3 problems with Honda E, despite the japanese craftsmannship: a. short nose: collision issues in an accident b. ultra small trunk: not really suited for a shopping city car c. a perfectly executed Mazda MX30, with perfect layout / size for the same price
