I'm watching it 12-8-22 and even after Snyder cut, which WAS way better, but a slow motion sesame seed? Wtf is wrong with him? Zach could be a great director if he gutted the horrible bad director tumor in his brain that produces half the ideas.
I didn't think this could happen as a 20 year old straight man, but I got a little angry at all the butt shots. I mean Wonder Woman was a strong female character in her own movie and now in the big team-up movie she reduced to butt shits again.
+Michael Silve I think the point he's trying to make it's that they wrote and shot her character is too radically different from how they did it in her own movie.
We didn't get these kinds of gratuitous butt and cleavage shots in Wonder Woman and the difference between WW, BvS and JL is that WW has a female director. I don't think the directors even realized it but obviously the concept of beauty is different in the eyes of a male director and a female director. And if they insists on putting Wonder Woman in future movies with different directors they should at least extend her skirt length or make her wear trousers.
I’m a 22-year-old straight man, but I agree that the butt shots were a bit much for me. My problem was that they were so blatant in JL. In her own movie, there were no gratuitous butt or cleavage shots. It makes you wonder how professional male directors don’t realize what they’re doing. Just a general statement: It’s interesting how some people online act like male gaze doesn’t exist when all you need to do is watch WW and JL to see the difference. Even my philosophy professor used WW and JL as an example in class.
Man guys! It's been like half a year since this movie came out and this video keeps continuing to appear on my recommended feed... but I can see why! The banter on this commentary is probably the best it's ever been. I think I genuinely laughed out loud at least six or seven times. Good job, guys.
Tbh after all I've heard about Joss Whedon I wouldn't be surprised if he had some say in the Amazon designs. Even if all the allegations aren't true, after reading his original script for Wonder Woman I don't want him anywhere near either franchise.
As a lifelong DC fan, whose comics got me into this world, this makes me sad. The fact that the studio will put a movie of this level of quality is embarrassing. The fact that Warner Bros is the same studio that made the greatest comic book movie of all time is mind blowing. While I loved Wonder Woman, I wish they would just start from scratch and reboot it. Heck keep Gal as WW, might as well.
It still amazes me that people defend this hot garbage. There is nothing wrong with liking it but that shouldnt stop a person from acknowledging its utter crap.
Justice League was very very very average. .it's probably the most forgettable of all the DCEU movies...at least BVS had the epic batman where house scene. ..JL had nothing. ..the most notable thing about this movie is superman looking at flash at high speed..that's it....I couldn't tell you anything else great about the movie
DrSmokeTrees thats not what he even said , though it was better but it didn't have anything memorable noting that stood out, atleat the good parts of vs were better is what he said
DrSmokeTrees I kinda prefer BVS to JL....BVS has worse moments. ..and better moments. .I'd rather a good bad movie..than a bland boring nothing movie.....so I'd prefer to watch BVS for the where house scene and to laugh at Martha. .
I think that sums it up pretty well. Overall, I didn't like BvS. But there were certainly things about it that were awesome, like the opening with Bruce Wayne in Metropolis or the warehouse scene. With Justice League, the only real highlight for me was Superman vs. JL. Everything else felt soulless.
Wah Tong There are a few things to consider here. 1 - Superman seemed like he wanted to kill the JL, while Wonder Woman mostly wanted to just subdue him. 2 - We hadn't seen these two together on-screen. 3 - Maybe the awakening and the Mother Box made Superman more powerful? 4 - Maybe something happened to Diana sometime between WW1 and when JL takes place.
Kyle Luebbe i considered mosy of the same things. I chalked it up to 3 things. 1. Mother box combined with speed force plus reurrection Doomsday type stuff boosted power. 2. She held back which makes sense. 3. They made her weaker and sexed her up. Tried to boost Superman.
Superman is the first Mary Sue character, created. He has always been vastly stronger than Wonder Woman. He is on a completely different level than any other superhero in DC.
Kyle Luebbe The problem with your points is that we'd already seen Wonder Woman and Superman on screen together, though not in a fight with each other (She was in BvS too, after all, and was more than capable of holding her own against Doomsday), and that film took place between WW1 and JL too. I hate to say it, but there's no real way to justify it, it was just bad writing.
I think the point of the "Dostoievski" joke is not supposed to be "Flash says something that sounds Russian", but instead "Flash tries to say 'dosvedanya' ('bye' in Russian) and gets it wrong".
No JK Simmons was getting into shape for Counterpart on Starz. He’s a badass super spy and his nebbishy alternate reality version. Everyone needs to watch it btw, its awesome!
BvS - the warehouse scene with Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman fight Doomsday Wonder Woman - the no mans land scene, Diana saves Steve and other funny and actions scenes Justice League - nothing memorable, absolutely nothing. When they fight Superman for about 1 minute? No. Fighting Steppebwolf? No, he gets knocked out by one punch along with corny cheesy one liners. Such a disappointment.
The difference between bvs and justice league is that bvs, while I hated it, i can respect what it was trying to do. It was a creative vision, Zack Snyder put everything he could into that movie. The superhero movies that will be remembered, for better or worse, are just that. Justice League is a product that will fade into obscurity, the only thing worse than being bad is being mediocre, just ok. Justice league is just ok.
sam karanja True Bvs actually grew on me ad I didnt like it that much and now I love it. Its good to hear people acknowledge zach tried something different. For that I respect you back sir
Yep, you nailed it. Overall, I disliked BvS. But there were multiple elements of it that I liked quite a bit. And I respected it for what it was trying to do, even if I felt like the execution was mishandled. Justice League had no soul. I was worried that WB would be overly reactionary to the criticisms of BvS and it turned out to be true. This movie was just a corporate product of every comic book cliche you can think of, stuffed with tons of exposition and bad visual effects.
That was due to Joss Whedon, none of the actors wanted to do reshoots of what they already filmed. But had no choice. Batman was shit because of the Whedon's reshoots. Why do you think Affleck wants out now.
Justice league was straight up terrible! It felt tonally out of place from the entire dceu. They should have kept the tone they were going with..This movie really makes me sad.
I get why they wanted a shift in tone. But like you said, it just felt completely disconnected from what came before it. Before, Superman was a brooding character divisive among the public. Here, the entire world loves him and is descending into chaos because he's no longer around (even though he was only Superman for 1.5 years).
"Rip the sleeves off his trench coat." 🤣 These guys! I just can't. 😂 Now Joe at 6:00...I'm in tears; I can't stop laughing. 🤣🤣🤣 Goodness, I srsly love you guys. ❤ You make me laugh to tears, and with all the insanity going on right now, I need it. ☝🏾 God bless and be safe SJU Team! 🙏🏾
Glad I watched it with 102° fever and serious bronchitis, I dosed nearly half of JL 😂 Seriously I regret nothing about missing half of JL because I knew it will suck. Matter of fact I think the orange cinematography and the bad CGI made me more nauseous 😂😂😂
"It wasn't a terrible movie." Agree to dramatically disagree. The fact that it's "just fine" is what makes it a terrible movie because when you're dealing with the most historic superheroes in the world it needs to be more than just adequate.
WB, just hand the whole thing to Patty Jenkins, that alleyway scene in WW was proof that she gets superman better than anyone else you got running around there. No Idea how her Batman movie or her Version of Flashpoint would look like but at this point I feel like there is only one direction we can move in terms of quality. Just ask her what she want's to do with the other heros next and then do that.
tharrock337 Yes, but she does need some help. As good as WW was, the third act had some flaws that might have been addressed with some more creative input. Just like how Fiege is with Kathleen Kennedy, a secondary voice would be good, especially when trying to manage a whole shared universe spanning multiple films a year.
Optralis Agreed. The movie was good, definitely entertaining, and I'll even concede it's DC's best movie... But that really isn't a high bar to get over.
arthur churro how was it dark and serious? Did he say it as he saw hundreds of children dying and he was covered in blood? No. He literally said it with a small smirk on his face. How is that dark and serious?...
Well done guys. Absolutely nailed it. Especially in the commentary. It’s what I’ve been saying to the deluded defenders all along especially about BVS. A team up of the greatest comic book heroes should not be mediocre or just ok. Because it should be of a better pedigree. Also a film with that good a cast on that budget should not be that lousy.
Here’s the next line up for me: Flashpoint: remove most of the timeline except Wonder Woman Aquaman: use Throne of Atlantis with Black Manta and Ocean Master Wonder Woman 2: have Circe be the villain and imitate the God of War games Suicide Squad: don’t make it a sequel, but a remake. Have Joker be the villain and use the Religion of Crime with Royal Flush Gang The Batman: have the Court of Owls and introduce Nightwing and Batgirl Green Lantern Corp: use the Blackest Night story Shazam!: Hint at Black Adam, but still use Dr Sivana Man of Steel (remake): Luthor runs for President and have Bizzaro be the villain Justice League (remake): Legion of Doom, using the previous films to introduce the villains That’s how I’d do it to redeem the franchise
Except, it was established in the movie that the fishing village doesn't have very much contact with the outside world. How would they know who either Batman or Bruce Wayne are?
What I love about this the most is them talking about how there's no way we're getting a "movie" from the Snyder Cut because there's no way WB is paying for all the editing and cutting and rendering. And I'm sitting here in 2020 knowing theres a 4 episode Snyder Cut coming our way in 2021 because Zack Snyder and his team worked their butts off. Nerds, man. Never underestimate Nerds and our collective powers. Also the fact that HBO max needs sth to draw in subscribers.
JK Simmons said that he is working out in general, not just for JL, the photo just happened to coincide with the news of him being cast as Gordon in JL.
They could have given superman a short, grew it in the grave, beard! Few days worth of undead growth... The humans buried it in the dirt... and that was the hardest one to get! :D I actually liked Suicide Squad most.. Wonder Woman was a bit dull... The only DC movies that are also ok, are a few Batmans... I have zero expectations of a DC movie..
Me: What is the point of taking something fantasy and making it more grounded doesn't that suck out the fun Zack Snyder: Haven't you heard dark arbitrarily equals adult
This is probably my favourite Honest Trailers Commentary, thanks to our trio's incredulity at the silliness of the plot. I also want to see Change Machines get made. Who would voice Optimum Prime and Tremendous Car?
Justice League suffered the same fate as Superman II due to creative differences between the producers (Salkinds) and Richard Donner. Salkinds didn't care about the story too much they just wanted to release the movie. So they hired a different director and did massive reshoots which looked okay but it didn't have the Richard Donner elements.
I would say even worse: They took a dark movie with Batman, then gave control to a guy who was supposed to bake it more colorful and child friendly... and this reminds me of the time when Tim Burton was replaced with Joel Schumacher.
What really bugged me about Ezra Miller's character is that he has the wierdest run. It is his main job to run and he flails around like he has no control of his body. I keep waiting for him to fall down on his face
He said mother, because in the "original draft" his actual mother is either trapped on the mother boxes or he is banned from Apokolips and needs the boomtubes to get back to her.
I get that but since she isn't mentioned at all in this draft, why bother keeping that mother reference in? If he needs someone to talk to, throw some low grade henchmen in or have him communicating through a boomtube to Darkseid.
I actually really liked Justice League. Probably helps that I’ve only seen that and Wonder Woman in DCEU so far. I don’t know. It kind of made me feel like a kid and it was fun. But on the other hand, I also was like cringing throughout the whole thing. This is something I have wanted to see succeed for a long time. I can definitely see its downfalls and I am definitely not saying it’s perfect. I like the feeling I got watching this movie but it’s not the best thing out there.
I totally agree they kept trying to make Batman and Superman these huge important undisputed heroes. But Wonder Woman was RIGHT THERE DC. She was right there and the audience already loved her and she was your most successful movie. Like i understand the importance of Clark and Bruce to the fandom, but if their solo movies didn't work to well with the audience, why did they think the team-up movie would be better for their characters? Diana deserved to be the spearhead here and I'm disappointed they didn't give that to her.
Well in the end, considering that this movie has been reshoot and post produced in like 2 months by a gibbon... it could have been ever worse tho Anyway they changed SO MUCH in terms of story from the original Snyder to the final movie, I've never realized until today.
The best joke for Flash was also his most reasonable idea--that bringing Supes back from the dead might result in a Pet Sematary issue. And then when Supes gets pissed and he looks over and is all "Pet Sematary!!!" That was good. On the hero moments, the Batman "Save one" was the high point of the film for me. There was stakes (unlike when Superman just shows up at the end and womps on Led Zeppelin or whatever the CGI monster was.
I don't blame them for going easy on it, considering the backlash they get from certain DC fans who can't handle the opinions of others. I heard Dan even got death threats.
Look at the Screen Junkies JL review.. Dan and Roth had to open with a discussion on why Death Threats are healthy and unproductive.. year in - year out the DC fans issue more death threats than Isis
They should have failed to stop Steppenwolf and saved the superman revival for pt. 2 when they had to fight Darkseid. It wouldn't have necessarily fixed all of the issues with the script, but it'd have been a more coherent plot.
Yep, that's where I get all my important and accurate news, newsarama... The truth is IF he was fired it was because they finally reached an impasse. Snyder, throughout the life of the DCEU, had been butting heads with the WB executives. Just like everyone else who worked with WB on a DC project. We've lost so many directors, writers, and actors from the other DC projects that I've lost count. Snyder wanted to build up the DC universe into it's own thing and WB wanted to be Marvel. It's as simple as that. After MoS Snyder wanted to make a sequel and then a Batman movie and a Wonder Woman movie. WB said "no we need to get to our team up movie faster" and asked him to skip the set up and make BvS the next movie. He then did his best to follow up on MoS in BvS, while also introducing Batman and Wonder Woman, and setting up Justice League. Then after the negative reception of BvS, a reception partly caused by WB cutting key story elements out of the theatrical version, WB shrunk the planned two part Justice League down to a single movie. So Snyder tried to make it into one movie but after production started WB wanted a lighter, vanilla, more Marvel-esque movie than the one Snyder wanted to make. Snyder finally left (or was fired) and they brought Whedon in to stitch together what Snyder filmed into a movie more in line with what they wanted and we got Justice League. The most "meh" comic book movie ever made. If Snyder had been able to build the universe without all the interference and tell the stories he wanted to tell I believe we'd probably have a much more satisfying franchise. They'd probably still be divisive movies but they'd be coherent stories told by one voice rather than one mangled studio mess after another.
Superman created the Justice League because Lex Luthor, Brainac and the Toyman joined together to form a conspiracy against Superman using Kryptonite to kill him. The only way he could survive was to ask for help from the heroes he heard about from his friend, Chloe Sullivan? that's why Bruce gathering the league didn't work as well and the dead superman to evil superman was also jarring
I just can't get over the fact that minutes after being concerned about preventing crab chin from getting the boxes (why were they even hinted in the entrails of that parademon?) they forget about it only for him to pop in and yoink it away while they were involved in the underwhelming and brief Superman fight scene.
Steppenwolf was Darkseid's general whose job was conquering worlds for him.. But he lost in earth and also lost his Mother Boxes which carries the power of Steppenwolf's mother Hegara(That's why he was calling it "Mother") which destroy and give life to the planets and also the power source of Steppenwolf... But since he lost in earth, Darkseid abandoned him and since the Mother boxes were separated and deactivated he lost his power to return back to earth through "Boom Tube".... But when Cyborg's dad made one of them activated and use that to cure his son then all the boxes got activated and so does the power of Steppenwolf.. Then he used "Boom Tube" to return back to earth and his plan was to destroy the planet where he lost and then taking revenge on Darkseid by using those mother boxes... Even he also offered Superman to join with him in defeating Darkseid... It was all in Snyder's Cut which was earlier screened for some fans... But WB and Whedon just made this into a mess and they took Steppenwolf, a vilain who earlier had motives in Zack's movie and turned him into a generic disappointment.....
Justice league 2 -introduce GL/John Stewart and Hawkgirl -Villain Legion of doom Justice League 3 -More heroes and the building of the Justice Tower -Villain Darkseid and all out war
The "Lord and Miller Cut" joke doesn't really work because they never finished principal photography. There's literally nothing they can do. Kennedy made sure of that. Snyder finished filming in October '16 and was deep into editing in April (possibly as late as May) of '17. (it's easy to check the timeline because of what he was posting at the time. Even as far as color grading. All he had to do is request a director's cut and do it if/whenever he feels like it.
The whole thing around Justice League just makes me sad. I've wanted to see the Justice League on screen since i was a child and i really wish i can see how Snyder would have completed this movie
Ben Cheung Honestly, I thought MOS was okay and I hated BVS, but I was still disappointed that Snyder didn't get to finish what he started. Even before all the production drama, I wasn't putting much faith in JL. I was still interested in seeing where Snyder was going with it all, though.
they didn't believe you when you tried to tell them how everybody everywhere understands the dumb Martha scene, they're not gonna believe the Snyder Cut isn't sitting in a warehouse somewhere next to the holy grail, a wild goose & their emperor's new wardrobe.
It occurs to me, watching this: how have you not done a Gremlins HT? I mean, Justice League was ultimately like Gremlins if it tried to take itself seriously and put everyone in Kevlar. But in any event, now I want to watch Gremlins. And perhaps an Honest Trailer of Gremlins.
I cannot fathom what would make anyone think a Snyder cut would actually be worth watching. This was the first one he had his hands on that was tolerable, and one would assume that’s because a good director took over.
