Fingers crossed it will like it's new home and do well for you Janette. I have about 5 plants in hospital. If they really are unhappy I put them in a large pot with good compost, in the sun if they have not done well in the shade. And I am waiting to see what happens now. No idea if it's the right thing to do, but I will see what they say. I love the way you are just so straight forward if plants haven't worked out for you. Always look forward to your chat with us 😁
Oh thanks Penny, I really don’t mind if things go wrong or I won’t learn new tricks. Someone has just told me “gardeners learn by trowel and error”, isn’t that a wonderful saying? 😊
It happens to all of us. We learn and we move on. Hopefully it will love its new home and thrive for you! Thank you, Janette, for being so transparent and not trying to hide the not so fabulous stuff 💚
Hello Tanya, oh I don’t mind the failures. At least they are fewer than the good bits 😊 hope you’re well, is it still very hot over there? It’s a lot cooler here, today is going to be a high of 65 with cloudy skies.
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener Yes! It’s so frustrating! I can only do a little at a time and only early in the morning. Keeping everything watered is a job all by itself.
I love that you share your trials. Gardening is not always sunshine and rainbows. There are real-life lessons with gardening. It must have been a little painful tearing out the good leaves and the bad. Growth is painful. You are wise enough to recognize it. Thanks for sharing!
Hi there DeeAnn and thank you for watching. This video is perhaps 4 years old and I am happy to tell you that my Clematis thrived that year, and is still going strong today, in exactly the same spot. So plants are far stronger than we know 😊 Hope you’re having a really great week 💚🩵
We live and we learn but most of all we don’t give up - even if that means with a new plant. I believe it just may be the most resilient. Honeysuckle can be a beast to kill. Look forward to seeing the results. Keep enjoying your garden as well. 👩🏾🌾👍🏾😍
I am learning a lot since they say you learn by your mistakes! I think your ever so faithful Honeysuckle will be revived in its new home! I didn’t know those things about Honeysuckle. I’m on my fourth year with mine planted on the south side of my garden fence. It does weave in and out of the gaps so I do get to enjoy the fragrance of them in my Secret Garden!🥰🌺
You sound far more of a honeysuckle expert than me Mary 🤣 you’ve had yours doing well for 4 years 😊 and my poor one has had a terrible time. But we’ll see what happens.
Hi there Kate and thanks so much for watching. I’ve since moved my Honeysuckle again, in a video I posted about 2 weeks ago. Hopefully it will do well as I hope yours will too. Hope you’ve had a happy weekend 🩵💜
At least, you took care of it like an infant. I wish you find a suitable spot and honey suckle pays back. Love the approach you have towards plants. Weldone n keep it up.
Hello Janette At least the honeysuckle is alive. We can but try is my motto. I've thrown away a lot of dying plants this year. It still looks well stocked because i manage to buy more!
I’ve had a tough go with my honeysuckles this year as well. I appreciate your videos for this reason. The homemade spray and daily watering seems to have done the trick. They are flowering again. And the three of them are south facing. I wanted to say that when I cut them back (which I discovered they do not like much), I was able to use the ‘vines’ and form them into a small wreath. I’m drying it thinking perhaps I can use it in this autumn.
Hopefully your Honeysuckle will stop sulking now🤣 fingers crossed it likes its new home🤞When it does find its spot they are rampant. My poor Mum tried growing honeysuckle for years without success, yet in my previous garden I had to hack it back every year to keep it contained (it obviously found its spot). But the smell was incredible. Sitting on the patio in the evening the scent just hung in the air.
Oh that sounds wonderful Una. Yes, we shall see. I bought a lovely hibiscus today, a white one, and have been moving the pot all around since I got home 🤣
Don't feel bad Janette, I plant things in the wrong spot a lot. In fact I have one right now screaming at to replant it. I've been so busy, I haven't had time. I hope all is well!
Linda! I’ve missed you 🥰 lovely to hear from you again. I’m fine and I hope you are too. The seeds you sent me all did so well, the morning glory have finished now but the salvias are still growing strong! Take care 🥰
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener I’m so glad the seeds have done well for you. I love the salvia, hopefully they will bring in some hummingbirds for you! I’ve been so busy this Summer that I haven’t been able to make one video or comment on them. I’ll email you later today.
Our young honeysuckle was in its 2nd year of growth last summer and doing well. In early spring this year (after that long 8 nonths of miserable wet autumn and winter) I noticed it was growing in height but was told it would start growing outwards instead. Just today i had a look and it is dying from the bottom up! Gutted! It is sitting in a weedy area but also in direct sun.
Oh no Arnie, don’t give up on it yet though, maybe try cutting all the dead bits off and maybe it will recover. I’ve since moved mine to the other side of the garden as this planter got all waterlogged, it’s still growing but still small. I don’t think I have green fingers when it comes to honeysuckle 😆♥️
Have you thought about covering the roots with a large stone to help keep the roots cool. I find Clematis likes their feet in cool shade and heads in the sun, same with honeysuckle.
So sorry about your honey suckle vine Janette. The same thing is happening to mine, it’s scraggly and hasn’t flowered much, time for some maintenance on it. Keep us updated on it, I’m sure it will do great where you replanted it🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞. Planty hugs💚The space where you had it looks 100% better. Thanks you for this video, I need to get on mine this weekend. I just ordered an amethyst pugster butterfly bush and an incrediball blush hydrangea from Amazon, I couldn’t find those varieties in my local nurseries,so going to be planting next weekend in the humidity 😝😂
Thank you Elizabeth, I will let you know how it does (my predicted text just typed in “how it dies” 🤣🤣 but if it does die I will come clean 😊 wow those new plants sounds wonderful. I’ve never ordered plants from Amazon so would be interested to know what they are like 🥰
My fingers and toes are crossed for you , we can only do our best. Im sure it will recover, plants are resilient. The drainage looks much better there too☺️. Thx, Amazon has great plants, they sell them through Proven winners, so far I’ve had great success with my orders. Of course its still better to buy them in person, but some varieties are hard to find. This particular butterfly bush grows only 2 ft, which is perfect. You should check it out😀
Just searched and there’s only 1 hydrangea and 1 Japanese Quince and they are incredibly expensive. Such a shame because I watch so many US RU-vidrs and everyone plants Proven Winners. Oh well. I can do a butterfly Bush video if you’d like one ♥️
LOL ... Yes that made me Giggle ... but was sooooo appreciated ...... I will send your Honeysuckle some good thoughts and oh by the way ... your Honeysuckle told me that it might like a nice size rock laying next to it .... would make it feel more at home ..... Hugs
We all make mistakes in our gardens. It’s gonna happen but I don’t know of anyone that loves their plants like you do. That’s how I do with my lavender. I’ve tried everything. I’ve promised not to kill anymore but something in me says try again. I will say that the heat from the bricks was really hard on it too. I have wild honeysuckle in my yard but I so wanted some in my garden area. I think I’ll just enjoy what’s here.
I think you’re right about the heat of the bricks Sherry, since I moved this honeysuckle to the other side of my garden a couple of years ago after the purple planter got completely waterlogged and we had to drain it all, it has still not done very well, maybe honeysuckles don’t like my garden? I kill lots of plants 😆🩷
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener lol no it’s not you. Your garden is beautiful and loves you. There’s some things that just don’t grow in certain areas or soils. So many reasons. But I remember having something against a brick wall and the heat killed it. Before we got our house I was in a rental temporarily. It had a huge yard but wasn’t mine to do with but there was this huge patio. I had my sitting area so nice and beautiful plants all around…well guess what!?! The concrete in 40 degrees Celsius gets hot. Most died and what I had left of those, died in a winter storm in January. So as you know I’ve had to start over. Twice. Don’t give up. Maybe try some in a large pot like your green one in another color and style and you can control it more. I’ve done that with some of mine. You have moved some to but this way you can use the little utility things to move it around until it’s likes a place.
Hi there Merlie, here’s the video of us installing the trellis if you’d like to have a look: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fB6aku8t5Qo.html We bought them from a company called UK Garden Supplies on Amazon. Thanks so much for watching 🥰
Hello Peter and thanks so much for watching, it’s great to have a new gardening friend 🥰 I gave up on my honeysuckle in the end. I moved it to the opposite corner, then planted a big Trachycarpus in front of it and I ended up pulling it out only a month or so ago. I still love them though so I will probably give another one a go next Spring. 🥰
Hi there Doris. Do you think yours is perhaps searching for the sun? Mine completely died I’m sorry to say, I did try moving it as well but I had to admit defeat in the end!! Have a lovely Sunday 🥰
Oh that’s puzzling isn’t it Doris? As I said, I killed mine in the end so definitely not an expert. I did a bit of googling for you but just says they like sun to partial shade so I really don’t know the answer for you? 🥰
0:46 Not being the "Oh! You don't wanna do it like that!" youtube person...Honeysuckle is a climber attracted to sunlight. As long as the root/base of the plant is shaded by surrounding shrubbery it'll thrive.
Good morning to you David! You are quite right of course, I know this now 👍 this was about 3 or more years ago now and it’s still thriving, even though it’s been moved twice more it’s still thriving I’m very pleased to say! Hope you’re having a great weekend and thanks so much for watching 🩵💜
Hello there!! I think that’s what happened, you’re right. I did move the honeysuckle to the opposite end of the garden, but it never recovered from the shock of being waterlogged, plus it was like that all winter. Never mind, we live and learn 😊 thank you for watching 🥰
Hello there Mira, it’s gone I’m afraid, the poor thing went through a lot in its short life what with waterlogged containers and being replanted. So in the end I decided it had to go, I just didn’t seem to be able to make it happy! Some thinks just aren’t suitable in some gardens are they? But always good lessons to learn. Hope you’re ok and happy Spring 🎉😎
