I had a chicken hen that recently died. I plucked her feathers and saved them for use in my flies. Her breed was called a silver phoenix, and their feathers are beautifully mottled and resemble a partridge. So I decided to tie up a partridge and orange fly in her honor. They are classy looking patterns that are still effective on trout even today. The feathers while look similar do have different properties as a partridge. The hen feathers are softer and therefor dont stick out straight as much.
