Hello Sir, A friendly caution, be very careful using a straight long sword for an Iaido type draw cut. The sword can split the leather of the scabbard on the way out and cut your hand. I did not notice if there is a metal chape/throat on your scabbard or not. I just don’t want you to have an injury
A word of advice brother. While swinging, reduce the amount you are swinging your shoulders, and add a bit of movement to your hips. Your form is good, stance is great, and you are definitely delivering power in your strike. Shadaversity has a good video that will do a much better job explaining what I have failed to describe
Great video and great gear man! What's so funny though...don't we all wonder what our neighbors think about us when they see us doing this stupid stuff in our backyards LOL
I would try sharpening it(looks up how to do that as there is a certain way to do that) those swords will not be sold at a razors edge for the price you paid. You could do some sword trading drill with a sword that is a bit heavier than the one you have to build strength. Thanks for sharing.
Dude, don't be too proud to dumpster dive your local carpet store, they will have long 6in diameter cardboard tube. You're hitting high because instinctively you don't want to contact the brick support. Rolled up newspaper held with zipties works well too.
This is factory sharp, right (it was not sharpened after you received it)? 5:31 Yes. Today, I cut mine against the Kirkland 500 ML bottled water, the result was similar. The opening occurred not on the part that endured the cut, but on either the top or the bottom of the bottle.
I was really kind of excited for the Honshu Boshin line when it first came out and although they're a little heavier than I like them to be they are pretty decent modern looking interpretations of classical designs and are functional. I own the katana although I modified it, but I was kind of impressed that United Cutlery had stepped up their game enough not to just be junk! I think they're pretty decent backyard cutters & personally I like the modern look, But I am a little disappointed that the nagel (small side guard) on their grosse messer is on the wrong side.
@@knightgai8772 when I first saw the gross The Messer had its guard on backwards my instinctual thought was one could probably take the sword apart and flip the guard. But I don't think that would work because one can't easily take that sword apart.
@@deeboy5588 I want to hear Jon's thoughts on this too Dee. I have it. Personally, I think it's fantastic in looks, handling and in the limited cutting I've done with it. Have not used in on anything heavy yet though.
Could be EU thread or US thread, different measurements. Go to a specialist. And measure the diameter and distance between rows... I don't know what they're called as I'm Dutch but you know what I mean. :P
With a sword like that you just hope every night for a burglar. I know I would. Would you say this is rather a functional tool (like a pocket knife) than a cool gadgets?
I had to exit when you hit the pommel to the dagger. If you're going for a draw you should keep the dagger closer to your forearm during the swing so you don't cut your own fingers off.
I have never heard of that one but when I started this channel was my first time training with swords and other weapons so I'm still very new and unfortunately I work a lot so I'm lucky if I get to do any training even once a week. Regardless I will continue, any recommendations? Thanks for watching.
@@knightgai8772 I was watching your review because I was thinking about adding that sword to my wishlist, but there are some things that I still don’t quite know about it.
@@travisgoonan7667 it's not the sharpest, a little on the heavy side but well balanced. Overall I think it's a good buy for the cost. I don't regret getting it.
@@travisgoonan7667 not exactly for probably more like 3.5 but the balance point is decent, but if you really don't like heavy swords this wouldn't be for you
While I’ll give credit to United Cutlery you could have saved money buying it on BudK klonaco is the worst channel I’ve seen and he’s simply changing more for the same shit sold by BudK so you got ripped of. The crome one is on Amazon for $205 with free shipping, it’s nice looking but if all your doing with it is slicing up bottles with it than it’s going to waste. Like others have pointed out about using an eastern martial arts method to draw the sword and swing is what’s messing you up. Chances are there are no HEMA teachers in your area to teach you a proper method than you need to acquaint yourself with movies associated with sword combat and learn from it. Conan the 80’s version is one choice since the actors were actually given instruction on sword fighting, Lord of the Rings, Kingdom of Heaven, Robin Hood the Russell Crowe one. Just to name a few, there’s one guy who does both Swords and Whips Anthony Delongis you could try looking him up. A good broadsword even that $200 one shouldn’t be wasted on bottles, find some large fruit, watermelon, cantaloupe, or even look for some ballistics gelatin for proper cutting test. I’d dare say get a whole pig from a butcher since shows like Deadliest Warrior at least used those for testing the weapons. The chainmail is a nice aesthetic but most can’t afford it, common sense. Same as if you bought an axe or hatchet you would test it on a tree or logs that’s common sense too. Also if your a beginner than you need more practice, you might have the money for it but that blade is more than you can clearly handle. Cash don’t buy guts or brains, find a school of martial arts that isn’t a mcdojo’s belt mill, find someone experienced in weapons training because if you keep running around with that your going to get yourself hurt. An education matters even in weapons, and for those trying to tell you look at Shadiverity they are talking out there ass because that moron can’t even properly throw any throwing knife and that’s been proven.
@@knightgai8772 I’ve seen how you give that response in other comments and it’s a universal response saying you can’t take constructive criticism. You’ve been on RU-vid about 2 years, your view count is low on videos and you over saturate too much meaning your not achieving anything substantial and simply showing you have more money than brains, there’s an old saying for people like you- a fool and his gold are soon parted! Get educated seriously before you hurt yourself or others, as their are way too many neckbeards bottle cutting boys on RU-vid already. The last one had to end up selling his toys and his channel dipped low and he eventually stopped producing content. Try to remember that.
