I just bought everything you suggested (plus a couple other items) from Amazon and it was almost $3k as of 6-17-22 incase anyone was wondering about the investment cost. Thank you for your advice and sharing your knowledge. I’m getting on the road soon here as well!
Hey brother I work in a Rigging company and we use flatbed. If u dont have enough velcro tie ups, or they break and u dont want to spend the money on new ones u don't need dem..once u hook up the straps and begin to ratchet stop before they get tight. Grab the ends of your excess strap and fold them over , and over until u get near the end. Then take that excess strap and tuck them into the hole underneath the ratchet and then finish tightening the ratchet. It will stay put without flapping and look very uniformed.wish I could give u a visual but u look like a smart cat and I think will get it with just the description. Subbed by the way. Looking to start hot shotting in two years after im finished stacking my dough. Keep up the great content homi💪
Man I appreciate you explaining this to me. I think I know exactly what your talking about with how to secure the excess strap. I was showed how to do it the other day. Thanks for the support brotha. Keep grinding and stacking. You doing the right thing!
Great info for the newbie like me I needed this info so I can start to build my trailer over the winter while driving for my son Keep the videos coming
Thank you so much this is extremely helpful. Bravo🙏😊. Please make a video on truck maintenance even if its a 2 min video, but would like to see and hear on your opinion such as when to change oil, fuel filters, air filter, tires and many more things that many truck drivers run into. That would also be helpful. Thanks.
Hot shot is all I'm seeing on the load board! I'm looking into getting my LLC and getting into the non CDL trucking industry. And I've been looking for box truck load boards just to see the demand and they all want hot shot for their loads so far. Is there load apps just for box trucks or should I just get a truck
Thanks so much for the support! I’m glad the video was helpful. I appreciate you checking out my other content-hope you find more useful info and tips there. Stay tuned and take care!
Starting out is expensive. I am managing with most of that gear. Bought near another 1000 worth last minute. Chains Ain't cheap . I have smaller straps for stupid things to be held out of the way. I have six 2 inch straps, five 4 inch 10 edge protectors, 40 bungies in 15" and 30" Four varying size tarps. Four 8 foot 4x4 Two 4 foot 4x4 4 2x6 . Glad I brought them found a use. 4 10 foot chains 6 binders Two 20 foot chains. And the wife keeping everything in order even though it drives me crazy. .
Amazing vid bro! I've been thinking about starting this non cdl driver and been watching all your vids and this one helps outs the most on what tools we need to start off thanks
Hey buddy… good video and thanks. How about equipment for inside your truck? Inverter? Fax machine? Fridge? 1-2kw generator? ELD? TV? Sleeping arrangements? Where you mount the fire extinguisher? Etc etc…
Awesome video man, I only have 2" straps and have been denied a load because they required 4" straps so definitely need to grab some of those. Also great tip on the Velcro, I've just been using the zip ties and carry my snips religiously haha. On a personal note I just got off the phone with the DOT officer and I officially just passed my new entrant safety audit so I'm super stoked on that. Its only been two months since my numbers went live so they weren't waiting around to give me that haha
Man I appreciate that bro and huge congrats on passing the new entrant audit! That 🔥 bro! Lol I used to walk around with the snips myself too until I lost them and said there’s gotta be another way lol. But good stuff bro I love to hear this good news. Appreciate your support 💪🏽💯
Thank you so much for the info you are giving! is their any way you can make a video on the legal side (licenses, certificates, medical card etc?,.) of the hotshot truck industry? tahnk you for taking your time on giving details!
Your welcome. I did a similar video to your request as well. It’s from when I was leased on and what you need but I should do an updated video on it. Thanks for watching!
Great video appreciate the breakdown. I'm in the process of starting a owner operator hauling business myself. Just waiting on my trailer to be finished. Do you work under someone's authority? Or you have your own?
Absolutely awesome about the safety equipment and tiedowns perfect I like the idea I’m looking forward to more information it has been years work and now I’m back in it and I want to stay there thank you very much you’re awesome
Great video bro. You can see the growth. I should have my truck n trailer buy the end of this yr or beginning of next. 2 hrs of hou but also got a spot n Sugarland if ya ever wanted to expand....
Hey Tim. Great walkthru of your securement items. Very helpful We are wondering why you qualify this at the beginning as a non-CDL setup. Won't we need mostly all the same things as one who has their CDL if they are operating the same setup (32' trailer)? I guess if you're at 40', then maybe you need some more 4' straps? Once again, awesome set of videos you produce.
Appreciate the feedback. I mentioned this for a non cdl setup similar to mine bc this is what worked for me and I was never short and needed more. I know for a cdl setup that more chains would be needed to maximize the additional freight you can haul. More 4’ straps for a longer trailer etc. but just my experience 🫡💯
@@HotshotMacc Thanks for the reply Tim. Just what I thought. We’re in the process of getting our CDL (skills test on Saturday.) Have the 40’ trailer and Ram 3500 ready to roll. Need to fill out the rest of the securement items, get the DOT inspection and complete all the rest of the details such as the IRP, IFTA, install the decals, etc. You know, the devil is in the details. As to you, hope your staying after your pressure. Also wanted to say that I know the amount of time and effort that goes into producing your channel, and I can say for most of us that we really appreciate what you do for the hotshot community by chronicling your journey. Thanks!!!
Greetings...I'm learning something new on every video u put out. Note taking...which is good. I did notice on another video u used a black tarp with ring midside..where u buy that and size? What size are ur blankets
Hi, thank you for following the journey. The tarp size is 27x16 super light weight 14 oz. I have the links for the blanket (Amazon) and tarps on my description.
@@HotshotMacc great stuff, got my “stuff” together! CDL hotshot, F350 w 40’ trailer. Awaiting IPR and IFTA registration next week. Just out of Army and hitting the road July 1. See you out there!
Hello sir u mentioned we should have Dunnage how much the dimensioned? Are u encourage me to start hotshot now?the best size and market demand how long should be the trailer ?thank u brother I will buy from ur website
Another great informative video. Finally pulling the trigger on a trailer next week. Diamond C Fmax 207 35ft max ramp. Hope to meet ya someday, as always stay safe out there.
@@HotshotMacc Thank you sir. I was going with a PJ very similar to yours, but my dad and grandma stepped in to help. I blessed to have family that believe in me.
Hey brother, your trailer GVWR is over 10k lbs. Why is everyone telling me of you tow over 10k GVW you're required to have a CDL? I'm very confused on this and can't get a straight answer! You look like you know what you're doing and are very organized. Thanks for sharing!
Are you in California by any chance? The federal CDL requirements only mention trailer GVWR with regards to pulling a trailer under a Class B CDL...if the power unit is greater than 26k GVWR but the trailer is 10k GVWR or under, you only need a Class B, but if the trailer is any heavier you need a Class A. California appears to require a Class A any time a trailer over 10K GVWR is used for hire
@@keithmerryfield8935 thanks for the reply. No I'm in Florida, but I travel midwest and NY. No Cali though. But everyone tells me I'm supposed to have a cdl for anything towing over 10k gvwr if it's commercial. If it's personal then 14k gvw for the trailer. Obviously total is 26k, but the 10k gvwr trailer rule applies first if you are commercial. I'm just trying to figure out how he doesn't need a CDL, if I'm missing something
I’m shopping for a used F450. I realize that a 2x4 would get better mileage… but all i can find are 4x4’s. Is there an advantage to just going with a 4x4??
I personally prefer 4x4 since you don't know what type of terrain you will be driving through especially while hauling. It can save you from getting stuck
I just watched your equipment video. I am wondering how you are doing NON CDL hotshot with a 40" trailer and the size of truck you have in the video. I am just starting out, but from everything I have found, that truck and trailer would put you over the 26001 weight limit for NON CDL. Any information would be very much appreciated.
It all depends on the type of equipment you purchased. You have to due your due diligence to understand the GVWR and Combine rating. I have a video explaining me the non-cdl in depth.
Im doing some research for a project. What are some of the biggest operational headaches you guys deal with daily? Ive heard BOL generation, and sending invoices is a headache.
Absolutely, managing Bills of Lading (BOLs) and sending invoices can indeed be challenging. Additionally, coordinating timely deliveries, navigating traffic and road conditions, and ensuring compliance with regulations are also significant operational headaches in our daily operations. Each day brings its challenges!
If your a non cdl driver is it the same idea as just driving like your hauling a boat rather then a simi? Do need to still get medical card, EDL, truck/ trailer inspection?
No, non cdl hotshot still needs almost everything a semi does. It’s still a commercial vehicle. There are a few things you don’t have to worry about like a CDL operator like a drug consortium and ifta.
Hey Tim I noticed you use a 2500 with a 35 ft trailer is it possible for me to use a 3500 Dodge with a 40 ft trailer 35 + 5 I'm trying to get into this business
What's the cost to enter this kinda work. To get get start and information of how to get started. I'm a disabled combat vet and can't do normal kind of work. I am really interested in this if anyone could help with advice
Hey! The cost to get started in hotshot trucking can vary, but you'll need to consider expenses for a truck, trailer, insurance, and licensing. If you're a disabled combat vet, there are resources and programs that might help with funding and support. I'd recommend checking out veteran support organizations and local trucking associations for more detailed advice and assistance. Keep pushing forward-there’s a lot of support out there to help you get started! THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
