Welcome back for another Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon video. In this video, I will be talking about how House of the Dragon may have revealed a decade old theory about the Mad King from Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire. In the first episode of House of the Dragon, we learned House Targaryen has known the truth about the White Walkers ever since Aegon Targaryen arrived in Westeros. According to Viserys, this information has been passed down from king to king. I believe the Mad King Aerys Targaryen might have learned of the White Walkers and Night King as well. Maybe it was this knowledge and fear that drove Aerys Targaryen mad... This could also explain why the Mad King said, "Burn them all," for hours, right before he died... Let me know what you think down below. Thanks for watching!

I don't believe this theory. Aerys didn't torture and murder innocent people because the White Walkers existed. He wasn't a sadistic bastard to his wife because of the Others. It doesn't make sense because of the context in which this was said.

I used to fantasize about getting a scene where Bran travels back in time like with Hodor, and tells Aerys the 2nd, who's maybe not yet mad, to "burn them all", which then ends up making him mad. "Hold the door". "Burn them all".

I was always surprised at how quick Ned was to dismiss the soldiers' story. His close relationship to the Wall and it's history should have been enough for him to raise questions on the movement of the walkers. It seemed Ned was more eager to deny any possibility of the return of the walkers than alerting the king
@openwide000
@openwide000 День назад
In the books, the soldier is a night's watchman that is so terrified, he doesn't speak at all. So ned just thinks he's a very mute, scared desserter. The soldier doesn't tell him anything

To be fair, even if Aerys was trying to give a final warning about the White Walkers, he's still the Mad King. He still burned Rickard Stark and killed Brandon. He got his jollies from burning people alive.

Several Targaryens had dragon dreams, some dreamed of Daenerys and the return of the dragons, others drank wildfire, others certainly dreamed of the Night King and the White Walkers, even Rhaegar Targaryen had dragon dreams, so it is possible that Aerys had dragon dreams.

It's a very intriguing theory. Some theories that people say are out of the world crazy actually hold more water than youd think. Jamie being Azor Ahai and Cersei poisoning Joffrey by accident make a scary amount of sense when you really think about them.

Since HotD revealed the Targaryens' "prophecy custody," I am hoping that the Dunk & Egg series will mention it as well. Brynden Rivers aka Lord Bloodraven is very powerful and relevant in that time period, and Egg's knowledge of the prophecy must have a great deal to do with what eventually became known as the Tragedy of Summerhall. If they do this right, it could be amazing.

Nah. He was loosing it for awhile. In fact, I think that it might be concieviivble that the Targaryens had all been loosing it since the last dragons died. Drinking wildfire, while believing that you would be reborn as a dragon? Rhaegar being becoming so obsessed with prophecy that he believed that either he or his would be the savior of humanity, to the point that he decided to break marriage contracts, knowing that it would start a war? Just crazy.

I don't think that was THE thing that drove him mad, but perhaps he was already mad and this contributed more to it. Hard enough to deal with your madness and then to have voices in your head as well that are actually real could have pushed him over the edge.

Ofcourse the Mad King knew about the Long Night. Remember Rheagar annulled his marriage to the Princess of Dorne to Marry Ned Stark sister. Hence the name " A Song of Ice and Fire." He knew that from her their bloodline he would have "The Prince that was Promised." Hence the name Aegon (Jon Snow)

The traitors want my city, I heard him tell Rossart, but I'll give them naught but ashes. Let Robert be king over charred bones and cooked meat. The Targaryens never bury their dead, they burn them. Aerys meant to have the greatest funeral pyre of them all.

I am sure that killing Starks, burning innocent people alive, being abusive to his wife and other women at the court, acting jealous towards Tywin and not bathing, shaving and cutting nails for years was also part of the plan to prepare everyone for the white walker threat. Too bad that people will remember that guy only as the Mad King. Seriously, you want a more or less solid theory on the subject - turn your attention to Aegon V. Now that guy was actually driven mad by prophecies and his wish to bring dragons back into the world. Didn’t end well. A lot of Targaryens died because of it, others (including Aeris) were mentally affected. The cause of madness might lie in the whole family’s obsession with prophecies, dark magic and unchecked power… but hearing voices? Give me a break.

I disagree.. Rheanyra was the last person to know the dream.. it was passed onto her.. and she would have been killed before getting a chance to pass on the dream and the dagger.. which is why in Game of Thrones no one knows where the dagger originated and that it was originally the kings. The secret would be lost and thus never passed down to the Mad King.

Yeah, but there are so many plot holes with this theory even just passing on Aegon's dream as for starters the succession did not go according to plan so I have to question how Blood Raven could have had such access. Of course if all of this is based on GoT tv sh*t show, then anything is possible and that would throw out all the lore and genetics about the consequences of inbreeding which GRRM has taken directly from the likes of the Hapsburgs etc. So, imho, this theory sucks!
