If i remember correctly House Valeryon is a noble house that was from Valyria like the Targeryons but with no dragon that i know of, they also have the white hair and purple eyes, lots os Targeryons married with them since they are from the same origin. Its like a cousin house.

A few things that I don't think other comments have addressed. 1) The Valeryon house came to Westeros and settled Driftmark before the Targaryens ever came to Dragonstone. The two houses had no known association with each other before this point but the Valeryon's effectively became a lesser noble house in service to the Targaryens because they had dragons, including Balerion the Black Dread. Since then they have intermarried many times. It's not exactly known why, but it's speculated the current Valeryons are black because Corlys Valeryon, the current head of the house, had a Summer Islander mother. 2) The Targs have two ancestral Valyrian steel swords known as Blackfyre and Dark Sister. Both play important roles in this story but are later lost. Neither appear in GoT nor have appeared in ASOIAF. 3) I imagine they will do some separate timeline stuff in the show, but the actual major events of the Dance of the Dragons takes place 170 years before the events of GoT. 4) I would describe the Dance as one of the 4 major time periods in Targaryen dynastic history alongside the Conquest, Blackfyre Rebellions, and Robert's Rebellion. The Dance takes place at a time when Targ power is at it's highest point. The most dragons, the most family members, the most unified Seven Kingdoms. It's about the events that lead to their eventual fall. Recall, by the time of GoT people hadn't seen dragons in the world for over a hundred years... 5) Unlike GoT, the Dance has a clearly defined beginning, middle, and end laid out by Martin in Fire and Blood along with some other stuff like the Dunk and Egg novellas. Martin isn't writing episodes, but as far as we know he was involved with how this show came together and has spoken highly of it on his blog (as opposed to his silence regarding the last few seasons of GoT). 6) If you're really looking forward to seeing what houses like the Starks, Lannisters, Arryns, or Tyrells are up to at this point I'd advise to temper expectations. This story revolves around the Targaryens and a few noble houses that aren't big players during GoT including the Hightowers, Strongs, and Velaryons. At least in season 1.

my boyfriend and I actually watched GOT for the first time during the pandemic and loved every minute of it despite the ending. i really think that there were a lot of folks who did the same too, we probably just don't know about it. i see some people like micky saying that not many people talk about GOT anymore, but I would have to disagree! i decided to watch the show months ago bc many people were still retweeting and talking about it on my twitter timeline. i even tweeted a lot about it while going through the series and got replies/comments! i also see a lot of people here on youtube reacting to GOT for the first time. so yeah, in my opinion the show is still relevant and i still see people talking about it! so excited for house of the dragon.

They have so much fking confidence in this show, it just shows in the teasers so far, Hope it's on par with its predecessor

Firstly, this book and story is already finished so it has nothing to do with the other not being done. Secondly, it's very complex and much less to do with her being a female. Thirdly, it's more then 100 years I want to say closer to 2 or 3 hundred

Trailer trending #1 on youtube with 10 million views in a day and IMDB saying HoD is the most anticipated TV show of 2022 by a mile and a half. I definitely remember people in the comments saying they will have nothing to do with any more of HBO's adaptations of asoiaf. I guess people have lost the anger. Or maybe it's just morbid curiosity of how HBO handles this. Maybe they just wanna see a cleansed palate that doesn't leave a bitter taste. Even though it's Sapochnick, so it's not like the apple is falling far from the tree. It is indeed 200 years BEFORE Game of Thrones. It is 100 years AFTER Aegon’s Conquest. And House Velaryon has no direct lineage to the Targaryens. They, alongside House Targaryen and House Celtigar, are Valyrians who survived the Doom. The Celtigars and Velaryons didn’t have dragons, however, but were actually in Westeros before the Targaryens. And the girl with red hair is not a Tully, but a Hightower, the House that rules Oldtown (city with the Citadel). The irony of the Dance is that while people don’t want Rhaenyra as Queen, the other faction is led by Alicent Hightower, a woman, who has sway over the other claimant to the throne.

Rhaenyra is actually Daenerys’ 6th great grandmother 🤣

One of the reasons that many aren't too excited about this show (but will watch it anyway cause why not) - is because it doesn't appear like theyre offering anything new from what was offered in Game of Thrones. Okay sure, it's a different time and Dragons are out and about. But what's the story? We've already seen 'Power competition in fantasy realm' story. What exactly is different about this (other than some aesthetics)? Will this be different from GoT? Or will it be more of political intrigue, some shocking violence and huge twists? Yes, even though im not as excited, I will still watch it because it seems somewhat interesting, good production value and, I have zero doubt, excellent acting. I just hope it's something different from what we've seen already

Approx 200 years before GoT, with the flashbacks. Arya and Tywin never talk about these characters, they talk about Aegon and his sister wives, particularly Visenya and her sword, the dark sister. Dance of dragons was talked about by Shireen Baratheon to Stannis, right before he torched her. “Dragon fought dragon, brother fought brother; and the Targaryens never really recovered after that”.

This story is completely different, we get it u didn't like GOT's ending. But this is another story in the same world Like for example you can't judge a show about some pandemic disease because you didn't like a show about COVID!!! The Doom of Valyria occurs roughly 110 years before Aegon the Conqueror invades Westeros. House Targaryen were not the only Valyrian family to escape the Doom. House Velaryon and Celtigar escaped too. Unlike the Targaryens though, they did not possess Dragons. The events of the House of the Dragon occur between 100 and 130 years after Aegon's Conquest. The events of A Game of Thrones occur 300 years after Aegon's Conquest.

GOT starts at 298 AC. It's a little unclear where they are starting this series but the main events occur around 129-131 AC. Though it is likely they will start at 101 AC or at least do a flashback to this time.

So, a few notes. Not gonna go into details or spoilers about the plot, just some other stuff: -Its not just about a woman being the heir, its much more complicated than that but you'll see in the show. -Daemon isnt using "the Targaryen valyrian steel sword", which isnt technically wrong by any means, but its rather 2 swords. He is using Dark Sister in the footage while the sword Blackfyre is usually the royal Targaryen blade that the kings wield as a show of power. -Velaryon isnt a Targaryen cadet dynasty, its a whole other house from Valyria that escaped the Doom. They have been closely tied with the Targaryen even before the Doom and had a bunch of marriages between the houses but they are their own house. House Blackfyre on the other hand is a Targaryen house. -the redhead woman is Alicent Hightower, Visaerys Targaryen's (the king) 2nd wife and not related to the Tully's at all, its just a redhead lol. Her father, Otto Hightower is the hand of the king, he is also seen in the trailer on multiple occasions. -yes thats the Catspaw, you can see it more clearly in the first teaser. -the time the Dance of the Dragons takes place is 8129 to 8131 after Aegons Conquest which would be around 170 years before the main series stars

Another aspect I’m excited to watch out for is the fact that the Targaryens are foreigners in this world too. There have been other kings at this point, I believe 100 years of Targaryen rule in this series but a lot of their customs aren’t necessarily Westerosi. They came to Westeros and ruled their way but I’m sure at this point they did care about what the lords had to say but it’s still very much “new” to everyone else. In Valyria it might not have mattered much but in Westeros they couldn’t just bulldoze all of their customs because they needed loyalty. Even the incest stuff will be something people from Westeros will have an issue with. Also I’m sure the other comments already mentioned it but Daemon is King Viserys’ brother. Rhaenyra was the rightful heir, Daemon had no claim. The conflict is more about Rhaenyra and her half brother Aegon II who is the son of her father’s second wife Alicent Hightower
