Don't change your prop water unless it gets gross! The plant releases rooting hormones into the water and they become concentrated and promote the roots to grow faster as time passes, if you want to jump start your cuttings i recommend putting a cutting of something that roots quickly. The fast rooting plant will add more rooting hormones into the water, boosting the process!

Hi Tyler! Thanks for making this video. I have a baby decursiva and there are hardly any videos about its care on RU-vid. I’m planning to do a vid on mine soon. Sorry about the shelves and the scare. Really stinks!

Hey Tyler my Rhaphidophora Decursiva has a large gap where leaves did not grow of about 3 nodes which makes up about 2 feet due to me repotting in a non well draining pot). Luckily it did keep growing and start to leaf again after repotting again. My question is...can I cut out that gap and propagate the top piece or will this kill both half’s?
@TylerMossop
@TylerMossop 2 года назад
Hey James! Really interesting question and observation!! So, mine has done something similar, I have two nodes before a new leaf, since repotting and bringing mine home from the nursery (we can share photos via email if need be) and I have mine in a well draining mix and pot. Based on what I understand about this plant, I may need to repot mine into a deeper container. So as to the first part of your question/comment, I'm really not sure why this is the case. As for propagting, what you are saying makes complete sense, I haven't propagated my own yet, so I can't speak from personal experience just yet. What size is the new leaf relative to the older leaves?
@jamespedrick6421
@jamespedrick6421 2 года назад
@@TylerMossop Thanks for the reply! The new leaf is smaller, but not too much smaller than the juvenile leaves toward the bottom of the plant. The first 4 leaves have not split but following 5 have split into 3 and look so beautiful. Then there is the 3 node gap that looks so bare. Kicking myself for not repotting to a well draining pot as I’m almost positive that’s the reasoning based on the time frame. I’ve done some more research on vine/climber propagation over the past hour and think I should be safe making the cuts. However I’m very nervous as I love this plant...

Have you actually been able to root the decursiva cuttings? They are quite stubborn and not very anxious to root in water. I'm getting impatient with it and want to try some other methods.

i chopped mine up and propagated using a moss box. out of ~10 leafless nodes, several didn't take but two have produced leaves and roots! and two others are growing roots.
@kyrad6543
@kyrad6543 2 года назад
@@GenuineGrief I have tried this also. Out of 6 leafless nodes, only one has produced a leaf after about 4 months. The leaf is the size of a quarter. But I can't throw it away! So there it sits in my perlite prop box.

I've got a huge one and everything was going well but for some months it hasn't produce a new leaf, the steam just keeps growing and growing. Maybe I should cut that steam and it will produce a new plant? Would that affect the original one?

I'm a little confused. Is this one commonly called dragon tail, or is epipremnum pinatum? Is this something you can clarify?
@TylerMossop
@TylerMossop 2 года назад
As far as I understand it, dragon tail = epipremnum. Which is a different but similar plant to the Rhaphidophora Decursiva. I think can be easily confused for one another, and some YT’ers definitely confused the two. Hope this helps.

here (canada) dragon tail is the name sellers have sometimes used for this plant.
