*For more episodes on garments, check out the links below!!*
In this episode, we talk all about GARMENTS! In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, members who have made temple covenants with God are told to wear ‘garments’ or a special undergarment that goes below the clothing (for pictures of garments and more explanation, check out this video made by the Church: • Sacred Temple Clothing ).
Justin and Samantha talk about when they choose to wear the temple garment, what we should do when someone chooses not to wear the temple garment, and the purpose of temple garments, We also address YOUR thoughts from our Instagram page to temple garments (follow us on Instagram so you can be part of the conversation!).
What have you learned about temple garments? Let us know in the comments below!!

My mom once told me a story of when my dad was outside re-shoeing our horse and the horse ended up kicking him in the chest right over his heart. He felt the impact and was pushed to the ground, but was completely unharmed; not so much as a bruise. There was even a hoof-print outline on his shirt where the horse had made contact. His friend who was with him was a paramedic and told him that he should have been killed instantly by that kick, bu my dad and his friend both agreed he was saved by the power of God. Temple garments do not do the saving but wearing them is a symbol and reminder of promises to keep God's commandments, and through keeping those promises there can be miracles you experience while wearing temple garments.

God will take special care to save your dad from death by a horse but allows thousands of children to die from malnutrition as a matter of course in the third world... OK.
@Nofxthepirate
@Nofxthepirate 4 года назад
@@bradrjones1 It's very easy to say "why does God help this person but not that person". It is very hard to see why entire groups of people seem to be neglected and forgotten by God, but how do you know that God hasn't touched their lives in small ways as well? The LDS church teaches that the ability to choose is the most important aspect of this existence. If powerful people choose to neglect third world countries, or if leaders of third world countries deny their own people dignity and daily needs, that is their choice and they will be judged harshly for it after this life. God could stop all the bad things from happening in the world, but that would defeat the purpose of existence. I see a lot of people in videos of third world countries who work much harder to survive than a lot of people in first world countries. I believe those people will be rewarded eternally for that struggle, even if their mortal lives are cut short by the neglect of others. One of the hardest things for me to understand in the LDS religion is the perspective that this life is just a test. While we are here, we cannot understand why the test is so hard, but if the teacher simply gave you the answers for the test, what good would it do you? I don't claim to know that God himself put forth his hand to save my dad's life(it was likely one of his angels anyway, but that is beside the point); what I do know is that I can't explain why he survived that incident without harm, and I know that he went on to help a lot of people in his life before his death last year. Perhaps God saved my dad's life so that my dad could help many more people in his remaining years. On the other hand, saving someone's life who is forgotten by the world and their government; someone who would have little power to help others because their ability to choose has been taken from them by oppressive or neglectful leaders. Saving someone like that may just prolong their torture on Earth. In some sense, releasing them from the burden of their horrible existence may be God's way of saying "Enough is enough, your suffering can now end and you will be rewarded for your perseverance". It would take a reshaping of the entire political dynamic of the earth to truly fix the problems plaguing third world countries. That is not something that God will do until the second coming. The LDS church and many other organizations do a great deal of humanitarian work around the globe, but suffering will always exist until the second coming of Christ. Indignant frustration at the injustices of the world does no good in helping to eliminate those injustices. The best we can hope for is to do our part to ease the suffering of others. Those with a greater capacity to help should help more, but people still have their agency to choose what they will do.

I think it’s important to remember that we do not get endowed or go through the temple so that we can go on a mission or get married. Being endowed, and making those covenants allows us to serve missions and be married in the temple. The endowment is the important part, and the first. The rest comes second, and only because of the first.

@brettmajeske3525
@brettmajeske3525 4 года назад
@XYU I am not dodging the question, you refuse to listen to the answer. You have set up a false dichotomy. The Sacraments, all of them, are invitations to follow Christ, to obey His command to be Perfect, and to Endure to the End. Implicit in these invitations is the need for repentance. Worthiness interviews help us reexamine our own lives, and we decide if we need further repentance. If we are unsure, then the Priesthood Keys are there to help us. It is not a binary. Quite often negative responses still receive Temple Recommends, along with additional counseling. Mostly it is the interviewee who decides that they are not worthy, rarely is it the Bishop.

Here's my take. The actual garment itself is just a piece of clothing. It's no different than a regular undershirt or a tshirt. The covenant (the promise between you and god) is what protects you from harm, whether its physical, spiritual, or mental harm. The garment is a reminder of our promise to God. If we show respect and uphold our covenant to God, God will hold up his end of the deal. When it comes to confronting members about how they wear the garment, unless they're running about outside in just their garments, leave them alone. The covenant is a 1 on 1 issue between them and God.

Not only do I have a special hamper for my garments, I use the time when I am folding them in pairs, I listen to church music and have reflection time. Even the water temperature (105) no warmer with a gentle spin and gentle in the dryer. I spot treat every item. No bleach. No fabric softener.The fabrics garments are made from are dyed white. So I remember when I am cleaning them, it’s not a dirty pair of socks. After 28 years of wearing garments, cleaning them is self care. I want them to be perfect. To me, it’s another way to show them respect. It also makes them last longer. They are designed to last 52 washings. I am a big laundry nerd , so please forgive me for rambling. I hope this was helpful. I appreciate everything you guys do. I miss it in Provo.

Kinda reminds me of this story an elderly neighbor told me about her husband: So he on his mission, (I don’t exactly remember where, but if I remember right, it was somewhere in a America.) and this priest from some other Christianity sector kept pestering him and his partner missionary about their “magic underwear” and various other common and weak insults to LDS people inside of a bookstore, so to get the priest to leave them alone, the missionary shouted as loud as he could: “WHY ARE YOU SO INTERESTED IN MY UNDERWEAR!?!?!” The priest, realizing how much trouble he is in with that might being taken out of context, decides to stop pestering them for the rest of the missionaries mission. Moral: If you are going to pester Latter Day Saints, atleast get a good arguement. that and just don’t bully people in general, regardless of faith.

AZ is my home state and my love! I know it's harder to wear another layer in 110° but honestly you don't notice after awhile. As far as tank tops, women's garment tops are capped at the shoulder. So while a tank top wouldn't work, there are tons of really short options.

@@davidjanbaz7728 garments aren't spaghetti strapped. They are meant for modest wear with modest clothes. I think you're thinking in very superficial terms in this regard. Is it really so harmful to just not wear a tank top? Is that really the point you want to fight God on?

Serious question: Will the members that follow all the other rules, but they don’t wear garments, still enter the highest level of the celestial kingdom? I’ve recently researching more about the faith and learned about garments, and I’ve noticed several RU-vidr couples that stopped wearing garments once they got married. I assume they wore them leading up to the marriage so they could have a temple wedding, and it seems like once they know they’re sealed, they no longer feel the need to wear garments. I can tell they aren’t wearing them because they wear tank tops and short shorts in their Instagram pictures and videos, and they aren’t going to the beach/swimming or working out.. but I know they’re still Mormon because they talk it! TLDR: Once you’re sealed, is it “hard” to lose that sealing and be demoted to a lower level of heaven? Is that why so many members don’t feel the need to wear garments anymore?
@Lavenderbaby

@johnyjohny5559

That is not the norm for practicing memebers. They would have to "repent" and start wearing them at some point to fully qualify for the Celestial Kingdom. It also is not too uncommon for couples to just get married in the temple for their families when in fact they are already non believing.
