It varies, but generally speaking, yes, women’s lead legs would definitely be more bent than men’s. But for shorter women, like Tobi Amusan, that’s not necessarily the case. Taller women like Camacho-Quinn can literally step over the hurdles. For most men, the knee can only be slightly bent. For smaller men, like Omar McLeod, the lead leg has to straighten so that he can avoid contacting the hurdle with his glute or upper hamstrings. Overall, to answer the first part of your question, I’d say that the angles of Sally Pearson and Dawn Harper are ideal for women, while the angle of Liu Xiang is ideal for men.
