This movie is a work of genius. The frogs are basically there for symbolism of fear leading to what could have been avoidable chaos or something along those lines. The frogs never harm anyone but people seem to have a fear for the frogs that lead to the death of that one woman who took a detour to avoid the frogs, and that heart attack scene where the frogs weren't actually doing anything harmful. Underrated film, I give it a solid Toad/10.

My favorite scene of this movie is when the camera pans to all of the stuffed animals on the wall, and has each one "make" the appropriate animal sound. When it gets to the bass mounted on the wall, the sound it makes is that of a dolphin. It sounded just like Flipper, from the old tv show.

I saw the movie in the theater during its original release (1972). The poster was an infamous bait and switch: I wasn't the only one expecting giant man-eating frogs. Incidentally, the movie must have been a frustrating shoot. In the final scenes of the toads (frogs) on the porch attacking the mansion, most of them are obviously hopping away from the house, trying to get off the porch. I still have some affection for the movie, which in some ways anticipated Jaws (1975).

As a kid I was an avid fan of Famous Monsters of Filmland. I wanted to see “Frogs” so bad when it came out but my parents wouldn’t take me. The movie poster made it look so bad ass I was sure it must be great. When it finally came out on video in the 80’s I immediately rented it. Yeah it pretty much ruined my childhood 😆

Love this movie! They filmed it just down the road from where I currently live. The house is a Florida State Park now called Eden Gardens. I used to go there all time when I was a teenager in the 80s before it was a state park. There is a story that the frogs and toads were brought in by the film crew and a bunch of them escaped and their descendants are still there! lol

I remember hearing something about this movie during some sort of film festival a few months ago The overall jist of the plot is that nature is turning against mankind The relevance of the frogtoads is that they are the commanders They're the ones leading and coordinating the nature attacks using pheremones or some bullshit I'm not 100% sure if this is accurate but it's what I heard

who has a jar just named poison in the green house that's just asking for something to happen
@anikmonette2140
@anikmonette2140 5 лет назад
What makes me confused is what purpose this jar had aside from getting knocked over... Because I don't get what usage it could have otherwise. Also, what kind of poison exactly, there's hundreds of them! (I know I might get the names wrong because I'm a Frenchie but I'll try anyway) So, since he's in a shed with plants I'd say Belladone? Hemlock juice maybe? Oxalide from rubharbs leafs? Cyanide from apple seeds or tomato leaves? Nutmeg essential oil? Ricin oil?
@anikmonette2140
@anikmonette2140 5 лет назад
I knew I spelled everything wrong! Here's my corrections: -It's Belladonna, not Belladonne(which is it's French name) The poison is commonly known for dilating pupils but it can be highly toxic, even in small doses) -I meant the coniine and alkaloids from the hemlock(can't believe I went with hemlock juice lol, but apparently it is known to smell like cat piss so I doubt that anyone with a functioning nose would confuse it with a wild carrot or parsley) -I spelled it oxalide, but it's oxalic acid. -I was right with cyanide in apple seeds, but the poison in tomato leaves is actually called solanine(happy to learn something new!) -I didn't check what molecule is in nutmegs, but every book I read told me that it was hallucinogenic if you eat two or more of the dried fruit. -Ricin, or castor oil. It's edible, but like nutmegs be careful with it! Can't believe I took the time to rectify that. What is my life? XD

FanboyFlicks, I think this ia a chill kind of b movie. The reason why I say this is because while most movies are high action/dark and gritty or even movies that are based in California(Hollywood, not saying that's a problem at times) this movie shows a more chilled southern feel and can actually be very pleasant whenever it comes to scenery to even the professionals that trained the critters for the movie and I kinda enjoy it😆😆😄😍

I checked up on the part Mark mentioned about the Wikipedia except on the “Rich Kid checks power lines” and sadly here’s what it says now : “Early next morning, Michael Martindale sets out to check on a downed power line. He accidentally shoots himself in the calf and is rendered immobile by strange white moss hanging down from the trees. Tarantulas descend from branches and kill him.” Kinda wanted the assumptions from 6 years ago in the entry still but oh well. Makes the film sound way more interesting.

When I first saw this as a kid I always saw the toads as the one's controlling all the other animals - telepathically I guess - but your guess is as good as mine. That's why they had to show the frogs all the way through (also justifying the title of the film they'd pre-sold on the name and poster design). For all its faults, I still love this film primarily for the atmosphere (photography and awesome analogue synth soundtrack) and the amazing campaign artwork.

I feel like maybe the toads were the commanders of the other animals. You know, like a sort of psychic connection and they ordered the deaths to happen. And maybe the frogs were all killed off by the pollution, so that's why the toads get revenge. And maybe the toads ribbit like the frogs out of reverence. Or they just fucked up the title. Thanks for the video on this movie. I was 9 years old when I saw it at the drive-in (a long, long time ago). This movie was typical of the 70's drive-in movies people would go to, it wasn't meant to be a work of art and, I imagine, even the people making it knew it was just something to kill some time with. What is interesting is that the movie does actually have quite a bit of star power - Ray Milland was an Academy Award winner, though his days of doing great movies were long gone. It seems he spent the last part of his career in these 70's "B" movies as he was a very familiar figure at the drive in. The movie does bring back memories for me, My dad would take me, my brother and our two sisters to the drive-in. We'd put the speaker on the window after parking. Then we'd get out and walk around. There was a playground and a concession stand. The drive in was good, cheap family fun.

They should have named this film 'Deaths caused by stupidity, heart disease, as well as every swamp creature known to man.....except for Frogs" ROFL

I am so glad u reviewed this!!! This film was a big part of my childhood, it got me into watching bad movies with my dad and making fun of them

I was going to say they look like cane toads that have been introduced to Australia, during the wet season.. hoardes of them.. I’ve also seen native frogs doing this kind of mass at night activity and all over the roads. It’s just the cane toads that are destructive though.

Already has but it's hardly labeled as "bad" in my opinion. This and pretty much any other review on this channel--apart from Fallen Kingdom--proves my point.

Now had they been Hypno-toads, I would totally buy the premise.

If they had called it "Dumb Ways to Die", it would have worked.

I liked that they still used real animals, not a puppets. Effort there

I saw this at the Portage Theater in Chicago with Night of the Living Dead and Blood From the Mummys Tomb at night with the family that was babysitting me. I found all 3 quite scary.
