I like your videos very much. However I am quite disappointed that you you spent no time at all on the Italy-Germany Semi-Final that went to 120 minutes on the Thursday with an extra-time that wore out the players (while Brazil had played Uruguay on the Wednesday), but you mentioned the heat for the England 1st round game. I understand that there are time restraints and it takes a lot of work to make these videos, but that semi-final was truly magnificent. I was 11 years old.

Firstly, thanks a lot for watching. Yeah, I understand about the semi-final. I might do a video on that much specifically someday. It was an absolute classic. I'm doing these videos in my spare time outside a full-time job, so it is difficult to cover everything.

its really funny thinking that a squad that had Pele, Rivelino, Tostao and Jairzinho up front was underestimated like this lmao

Yeah, it's incredible when you think about it in hindsight. Brazils build-up leading to the World Cup was quite chaotic, which was a big reason Brazilian media was pessimistic.

1970 was the first World cup I watched, The Brazil team were so good that played at a level only England could match. Brazil also understood the conditions better than the European teams with the thin air you get playing at high altitude, Brazil used this to their advantage. If you watch the Brazil v England game you will see one of the best games of football ever played.

Great points made. Altitude was def an important factor as well.

You are oversimplifying when you say Saldanha was ‘sacked by President Medici’. Sure, his somewhat irreverent stance towards the government may have played a role, the CBD being so aligned to the military government then. But much more important were the disappointing results of the national team in the first months of 1970 (against Argentina and Bangu [!], plus the match against Atlético in late 1969). That and Saldanha’s noticeable loss of control as he had to deal with very demanding fans and critics - at some point he went to Flamengo with a .38 revolver with a clear intention to shoot Flamengo’s coach Yustrich.

Oh, for sure. I could create a whole video just devoted to his tenure as Brazilian coach. It was quite eventful.
