I think it is important for media companies to share their media in any format. Many of the best collections for classic movies, tv shows, cartoon shorts and many others are no longer in print or have been never released. Companies like Disney did their baby steps with the Walt Disney Treasures Before falling flat on their faces by not rereleasing other historical cartoons. Everything deserves to be preserved and companies like Warner Bros, Disney, Universal etc should re release their archives in a physical format. Otherwise if something happens to those archives - It is game over. This is why things should be preserved.
Dude... I totally get you're frustration with not having perfect complete series set. I'm a Tom and Jerry fan and I don't think WB has ever done a release of the original 114 cartoons that I feel 100% comfortable recommending.
I’m so glad someone made this video lol. About two years ago I was obsessed with getting every (American) DVD release of the Dic Mario cartoons and I actually came close to getting them all before losing interest. I think I’m just missing a couple of the box sets and like two or three of the compilation discs. Who knows, maybe I’ll pick it up again
Actually I think Mel Blanc's final performance was as Mr. Spacely from the Jetson's Movie. So much so that only a few of his lines were used since the remaining lines were never recorded by him before his passing and was done by Jeff Bergman
Also why does "George Washington Slept Here" keep getting the shaft, but "Day of the Orphan", the only live action segment I'd argue was genuinely awful, gets to be on EVERY release?!
As far as I know, there's very few DVDs with Club Mario and absolutely none with the Danish Super Mario Brødrenes Eventyr segments, King Koopa's Kool Kartoons, or the Korean original live-action segments. Getting a definitive Super Show experience is an absolute nightmare.
Fantastic video! We had to take a crash course on episode availability and the altered music when we started our podcast, and it was a real eye-opener! We do use the Shout Factory sets when we can, if we don't just use the legal streams on RU-vid.
I really loved the show when I was in elementary school. I had the first foldout American box and I'd bring it to school in hopes that my music teacher would play it on the tv at the end of class... for some reason... Also the Cyndi Lauper episode is one I'm fond of for it letting me connect with my parents over a song they were fond of back then. I specifically remember going to this big Golf store and walking through the sea of golf clubs over the green carpet and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun started playing. I think my childhood was weird.
I’d honestly say the best way to watch the series completely in it’s original format is here on RU-vid, as a RU-vidr named Ninja 4561 actually went thru the effort to have the episodes including the Zelda ones in their airing order, have the cover songs, and even all the live action segments seriously I can’t thank him enough for giving us a true experience for this show
There is also a new DVD Box for the German Version for the Super Show called "Die Super Mario Bros. Super Show! - Serien Komplettbox" it say's it has every Episode on 8 DVDs but it could be just a re-packaging of the German 4 Volumes
I once saw a Super Mario Bros. Super Show DVD in a Redbox kiosk. If I remember correctly, it had one or two episodes of the show, and the only other feature was a bunch of previews for other DiC shows, including Inspector Gadget. I don’t even think the thing had subtitles. It did have the Spanish dub of the episodes, though, so there’s that.
As an aussie not sure about the Zelda show getting a home media release here, But here on TV Zelda aired as it's own show with the live action parts cut while the Super Show kept the live action parts for the Mario cartoons.
I bought the super Mario brothers super show on VHS in 2002 the one live action segment I remember was when Mario and Luigi were trying out a pizza machine and it would make mistakes putting things on pizza that don’t belong such as pencils and marshmallows Mario‘s reaction was hilarious!
If you really wanna be complete, the Super Mario Bros Super Show in Korea had original live-action segments with Korean actors. Unfortunately these seem to be mostly hard to find online.
Very informative! Always drives me crazy when companies only do partial physical releases of tv shows XP Would be cool to see you do some other release retrospectives like this for other shows with weird or missing episodes, like Disney Afternoon and all their half finished series box sets. Or all the strange releases of all the older Sonic cartoons
Foreigners getting better releases from US shows due to them not having that many licences problems is funny because that is pretty much the reason why Brazil still has Megas XLR on HBO MAX while americans themselves cannot get that show officially due to some corporate scheme by WB there.
One other curio regarding the live-action segments-a number of them have themes that seem to line up with animated segments, but don’t actually appear alongside those segments: Vampire-related live action segments: Seem like they should match up with Count Koopula George Washington Slept Here: Seems like it should go with “The Koopas are Coming!” Will the Real Elvis..: Elvin Lives Alligator Dundee: Crocodile Mario The Mario Monster Mash: Koopenstein As well as a number of less-direct/more debatable parallels. The closest the two get is Glasnuts/Plummers Academy, where both sides involve the “president of Russia” (not Gorbachev’s actual title, but you get the idea). I do wonder if these were supposed to be alongside each other, but production issues prevented it.
As a kid I hated Friday mornings because that’s when they would show the Legend of Zelda cartoons instead of the Mario ones. Hated, hated, hated those Zelda cartoons for making Link an idiot!
This is sadly very common for the saturday morning era of cartoons. Many never released as the full show and the only way to acquire would be bootlegs.
14:00 as german. wwf wrestling from around the time sgt slaughter was active aired here. and ernie hudson is known minimum trough ghostbusters, which was here as big as everywhere else. domino's pizza on the other hand... they tried it in the early 80s here, but failed. second try was in 2010 (still exist since)
Its amazing to me that over in America you guys dont get it as good with the DVD distribution, yet over here down under we get the full package. crazy am i right?! heh im not complaining because im big into collecting complete dvd sets of my favourite shows
6:00 Madman Entertainment are the BANE of my existence I tell ya Australia gets full seasons of Gumball and Camp Lazlo, everything that’s missing in the US for shows like Johnny Bravo, and the complete series for shows like Dexter’s Lab _years_ before the rumored upcoming US set DAMN IT WHY CAN’T _I_ BE AUSTRALIAN????
Awesome video & keep up the good work & i actually got the super mario bros super show dvd version this year in 2024 & I got volume one & volume two of this show & I have to write all of the episode down on line paper & check them off if I see a episode or not because some episode i already seen it already because I watch it on RU-vid a very long time ago & my memories of this show was really bad because it is been a while since I watched this show after i watched Pokémon xyz & ending up watching Harry Potter movie recently now & I have to looked all of the episodes on Wikipedia & check them if I have all of them
I have all the complete series. I got Volume One from Wal-Mart years ago, while Volume 2 on Trader's Village. Except I don't have The Legend of Zelda show.
I remember my Mom had a Redbox DVD of the Mario cartoon series and I watched it in the morning before I went to kindergarten I was like 4 years old and I still remember the cartoon to this day
it also appears the various NCircle dvds released from 2008-2010 also have prints without those filters the shout factory sets had. idk if the rereleases of volume 1 and 2 from them comply with those though
The Only Three of Super Mario TV Series 1. The Super Mario Bros. Super Show (52 Episodes) 2. The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 (26 Episodes) 3. Super Mario World (13 Episodes)
I have a vhs copy of Legend Zelda that has Slime Busters Ernie Hudson was in it. It is in rough shape now but I remember watching it frequent growing up it still has the cardboard case
I have the one episode with the birdo on a tape from April 1990. its got the "birdies the word" song which is now gone from the stream copy's. Its even got commercials and one episode of sinpsons from season 1 where bart fights Nelson
I have the Shout Factory release of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3. But now hearing that there is an NCircle release just reminds me how they screwed up the Sonic SatAM 30th anniversary release
As someone who recently acquired NCircle's new Mario 3 set, it's actually not that bad. At least compared to Sonic SatAM. While it doesn't have the best packaging or presentation compared to Shout Factory, and it's missing the third disc worth of bonus content, the new NCircle set does make up for a few things. The picture quality is pretty much identical, subtitles are now added, and certain glitches that some episodes had on the original Shout Factory set were fixed in the new set. Overall, NCircle's new DVD release of Mario 3 is pretty tolerable to me. Though I will still keep my Shout Factory set, since I love the original's packaging and presentation too much.
I recently owned the 2012 NCircle two-volume set of this show, but without the live-action segments. I'm planning to buy the U.S. Shout Factory sets and the Australian Complete Set of this show (with their respective live-action segments, of course) in the future.
What are you talking about? I have a DVD set of the complete series of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show! It even has all the live action segments! But it doesn't have the Zelda episodes.
I bought the Mario mania when it first came and liked that they were full. I then bought Shout factory Volume sets expecting it to include full episodes. I was even more disappointed the Legend of Zelda was missing more than half the live action segments.
Spotted a show logo error on the King Koopa Katastrophe DVD. The logo on that said DVD should've said "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3" instead of "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" as six of the first eight episodes of the 1990 NBC Saturday Morning cartoon were featured there.
I actually like these versions of the Mario brothers, quite recently I went on Pluto TV to watch super Mario world and the show was in the worst quality
Gotta say, this was a pretty interesting idea for a video, I don't really know if or when I'll check out the super show, but old video game cartoons are super interesting to me, so I probably will end up watching it at some point, but I know that I do want to watch the Zelda cartoon, purely based on me being a Zelda fan, and mostly just to see how "So bad it's good" it is, and now I'm wondering how different the releases for that show are tbh, is there much to miss for it anyway?
I’ve actually been working through the series using a custom upscaling model (SMBSS 2x). Might want to get those Australian discs to augment the data set.
I’m trying to go for a complete set of every Mario DVD released in the US and the only one I’m missing that isn’t TAOSMB3 complete series by NCircle and Captain N and the New Super Mario World is Mario Mania and it’s extremely hard to find. In the 6 months of me trying to find it of only seen like 5 listings and they’re either overpriced or badly damaged.
I have th Shout Factory dvds of The SMBSS and Zelda 'which I only watch for the Mario live-action segments' so I have most of the show I use RU-vid for what I don't have including all cover songs/bumpers/slow DiC Entertainment ending/Nestle Quik commercial/Kids Klassics logo same goes for The Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3 when it comes to Supe Mario World I have the NCircle/Cookie Jar dvds so I have all but one SMW episode but YT has that episode I wish Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network/Boomerang TV channel would get the rights to show all three Mario shows on DirecTV including the Nestle Quik commercial/Kids Klassics logo/slow DiC Entertainment ending/bumpers/cover songs. I'm starting to watch my dvds again tonight.
It's awesome to see these DVDs get talked about, I own the original Australian collector's set but it doesn't have the cardboard, just the big DVD case and the discs. would that still make it rare?
Ho man I keep looking into dvd sets and really wish we had more videos like this I'd be down for something like this for the sonic cartoons/early adult swim stuff like space ghost coast to coast
Can you find the Italian version, if it exists? Or even just tell me a place to see it on the internet, I know it has been dubbed and broadcast on TV in Italy too, but I don't know where to see it.
Hey Lane, since the Ed, Edd n Eddy "complete" series box set lacks the holiday specials and the movie "Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show". Did you do the same thing you did with The Super Mario Bros Super Show by making your own custom complete series DVD box set by taking the discs from the already existing box set while burning new discs that contain the holiday specials and the movie?
I hope you read this I had a vhs of butch mario and the luigi kid when i was 8 in 1995 my mom bought it at a truck stop in South Dakota fast forward in 2008 i bought the shout factory sets and zelda i notice it was missing magic Johnson episode my vhs had it but no DVDs has years ago I tried getting answers no one believed me so could you answer this question I'm asking please it's no memorey effect either
Thank you for asking. What you remembered was absolutely NOT false, Magic Johnson did indeed appear in the Super Show. He made a guest appearance in two live-action episodes, "Magic's Magic" and "Do You Believe in Magic?". "Do You Believe in Magic?" was paired with the Mario cartoon, "Pirates of Koopa". The full episode is easily available on both Shout Factory's Volume 1 and Beyond's Collector's Set . "Magic's Magic" was paired up with the Zelda Cartoon, "Cold Spells". However, unlike "Do You Believe in Magic?", "Magic's Magic" never saw a DVD release in the US or Australia. But that segment was included on the Butch Mario and Luigi Kid VHS tape just like you mentioned. I hope I was able to clear up some confusion. Again, thank you so much for asking.
@@KingLaneCreations this totally cleared up everything thank you fir responding and letting me know one day I hope you can cover those vhs that had those old cartoons for cheap like some had superman cartoons from the 1930s looney toons felix the cat and alot of those cheap tapes that were sold for a buck in the early 90s
No Captain Lou Albano I don't feel like watching I am going out for some pasta Luigi pretty much the entire time Mario aka Captain Lou was on camera it felt like he was hungry
i am in the process of making my own restorations of this series using my shout factory boxsets (except for the zelda ones). depends if i might get the volume 3 german dvd with george washington slept here on it but i need to find a way to rip the iso from it
update: ordered pidax volume 1 to check the quality of the episodes for myself, then soon i will get pidax volume 2 and the mario mania dvd for slime busters, then the last 2 volumes and the shout factory zelda boxset in the near future
update 2: kind of scratching off the shout factory boxsets since i have ordered the beyond tin case collector's set for a majority of the episodes' quality and i will only be using the shout factory boxsets for the 4 animated segments and commercial bumpers
You mention how both Shout Factory versions of Super Show Volumes 1 and 2 were released in regular 14mm keep cases. I only found pictures and of Volume 1 being released like that. Volume 2, I can't find ANY images of that existing.
@@KingLaneCreations Oh okay. My bad. I misheard and thought you said it was. Though what I'm wondering is why? Did Volume 2 not sell nearly as well as Volume 1?
@@KingLaneCreations Also question. Does the "Mario Mania" DVD contain the cover songs for the cartoons? Or does it too use the instrumental tracks from both "Super Mario Bros. 3" and "Super Mario World"?
