When you consider it, Harry doesn't just use each item, but he uses the Stone and the Wand in the wrong way. He doesn't use the stone to bring back loved ones, he uses it to help him gain enough closure to die. He also doesn't use the wand at all, not until he's already been revived. He conquered the first two Hallows, which the other brothers couldn't do. And you know what? Harry also used the cloak wrong. He didn't avoid Death with the cloak. He used the cloak to walk right into Death's arms. Harry didn't just master the Hallows, he conquered them completely.

Actually he used the stone exactly as it was meant to be in the tale. The stone was a trap to lure the second brother into deaths arms because he could only have what he wanted when he died himself. Dumbledore gave Harry the stone to make it easier for him to die.

It's like with the prophecy, how Dumbledore is trying to explain to Harry; only by choice can you master or conquer the thing itself. Mastering something is conquering it, thetefore changing it, or having the power to change it. How he made the wand obsolete at the end, or proved to himself/Ron/us? that it was all along only as powerful as people make it by believing it to be. Or something...

Voldemort’s arrogance is his fatal flaw, he thinks their can’t possibly be any magic that he doesn’t posses or that is more powerful than him, which leads to him underestimating love, and his insistence to use important objects for his Horcruxes and hide them in important places is the main reason it was possible to destroy them

@@PhilBagels it's not about the soul, but about the vessel. When Voldemort cast the killing curse, Harry's body (the vessel of both souls) was briefly destroyed beyond repair. One thing I've been thinking about recently is, what if two dark wizards each made a horcrux out of the other? Wouldn't that be in many ways (as long as you can trust your friend of course, though you would expect some sort of mental bond like between harry and voldemort just voluntary) protect you more, since like Nagini, you would only be able to be killed by basilisk venom, fiendfire and such stuff. And you'd have to do that to both wizards in one go, otherwise one would be able to revive the other with the good old bone of the father, flesh of the servant, blood of the enemy thing. (You would eventually run out of bones though so if this is the only way to get your body back, horcruxes have a limited amount of times they revive you anyway)
@Esterferreiradecastro
@Esterferreiradecastro 3 года назад
I think it sucks to have to share your body with another soul, harry definetely didn’t have it easy
@Cllocopine
@Cllocopine 3 года назад
Actually you would still be able to be killed with anything, because a human is mortal and a horcrux can’t survive without it’s container. The horcrux inside of Harry is destroyed by avada kedavra, because Harry can be killed by the killing curse so when Harry dies, so does Voldemort’s soul. Nagini could’ve been killed by other means than the sword, the sword was just a much more epic way to kill her. I mean imagine if Neville had just stomped on her instead, it still would’ve worked but it would’ve been way less cool of a scene.
@Cllocopine
@Cllocopine 3 года назад
But I still think it would be an effective way to stay immortal to make each other your horcruxes. I guess the biggest issue would be that two dark wizards aiming to stay alive forever probably wouldn’t be the types to be so dependent on another person. I can’t imagine Voldemort or Grindelwald wanting to share the spotlight with anybody else, or having to protect someone from harm and trust them to do the same for you. But it would definitely make for an awesome story. Two dark wizard lovers who have each other as horcruxes and can read each other’s minds from anywhere in the world? Can somebody get Rowling going on this? And while she’s at it she might want to finally reveal all the steps to making a horcrux because not knowing is extremely frustrating to me.

Voldemort was smart with regards to magical works. Why did he think that taking Harry Potter's blood would make him stronger and disrupt Lily's ability to Shield him? Was it simply because he didn't understand the magic related to love or was there a deeper mistake?
@Virgonc13
@Virgonc13 3 года назад
I think he was just SO convinced that Harry's blood above anyone else's would make him the strongest, since it was also the one that kind of defeated him once already. It's a sick revenge in his mind, with which he gets above Harry, humiliating him by literally resurrecting himself WITH a part of Harry, and I think that absolutely clouded his judgement towards anything else. He already didn't appreciate Love as a form of ancient magic enough, and with all his biases, he could have easily not realised that what he deemed would make him the strongest would also carry a fragment of that protection charm with itself.
@mischakailer4716
@mischakailer4716 3 года назад
If he'd not taken harry's blood he wouldn't be able to touch him which he somehow thought would be a downside because you absolutely need to touch somebody in a world where your most important weapon is ranged. But the point is, that he just did what seemed right to him and he didn't really understand love as magic. I think he thought of it as a shield and if he was under the shield as well he'd be able to touch Harry (which is of course true) but he didn't think that that would tether Harry's live to his. He thought that the charm (coming from Lilly) wouldn't really be part of Harry I think or something like that

@@mischakailer4716 If the Protection blocks any harmful spell directed from Voldy to Harry, it stands to reason that it would also stop the guy from strangling the boy. Therefore if Voldy is able to touch Harry, it demonstrates that he's once again able to harm him also with spells.

Voldemort never saw Lily's sacrifice as love, but mere chance. He wanted Harry's blood as a revenge and knew that without the blood he still couldn't kill Harry, and it was his plan to kill Harry in the cemetery. But, not only that contributed to Harry's survival in this scene, his intention to sanctify himself also counts, this is said by Dumbledore in the book. Not even Dumbledore was entirely sure about that.
@Xynth22

Well that's the thing. The magic going on with the whole Harry-Voldermort thing is pretty much much uncharted territory since it straight up involves murder, sacrifice, and an unbreakable vow to pull off to begin with. He is actually a powerful wizard on his own, as evidenced by the fact that he was able to summon a patronus at a very young age and, more importantly TEACH others how to do the same. He’s also a good problem solver and a kind soul. However, the thing that makes him less powerful than Voldy or Dumbledore is the fact that Harry doesn’t actually WANT to be powerful. Throughout the books we see Harry actively reject power however he can- he never intends to use the stone, he resents being chosen in the goblet of fire, he breaks the elder wand, etc. Voldemort spent his whole life seeking power and immortality and Dumbledore was power hungry in his early years, while Harry never was. Therefore he’ll never amass the same level of power as them because to get that powerful you have to actively seek it

I was under the impression that he was tied to life so long as Voldemort was alive, that is, he is invincible to everyone and everything. Doesn’t that put books five, six and seven into perspective? At any rate, I like the idea that there was never a point in time where Voldemort (the dark lord, the ultimate evil) even had the ability to kill Harry (the master of death, the ultimate good).

The first question that came in mind is why didn't Voldemort die when they fought during the battle of the seven potters when Voldemort had Luciou's wand, but it still makes sense: Voldemort still had horcruxes so even if he was fighting Harry, only his wand was destroyed
@Volvagia0slayer
@Volvagia0slayer 3 года назад
If Voldemort is acting as a "love-crux" for Harry, wouldn't that mean Harry can't die as long as Voldemort is alive? Therefore if one of Voldemort's Death Eaters were to kill Harry, he would still be able to come back as long as Voldemort was in his resurrected body. It seems like the only way Voldemort could win at that point would be for Voldemort to die while he still has a Horcrux in play, and then rebuild a new body for himself without Harry's blood and kill him (or have a Death Eater do it after his resurrected body is destroyed).
@luisab5726
@luisab5726 Год назад
I know this is an old comment, but still replying: I think the difference here is that Lily died to protect Harry specifically from Voldemort, not to protect Harry from dying in general. So imo, that means Voldemort keeping Lily's sacrifice alive with his own body also means just keeping Harrys protection from Voldemort alive. It wouldn't extend to noone being able to kill Harry like a horcrux would.
@Volvagia0slayer
@Volvagia0slayer Год назад
@@luisab5726 Right, that's why I'm arguing that it's wrong to call it a love-crux because it doesn't act like a Horcrux would. It doesn't keep Harry alive for as long as Voldemort is alive, which is what the Horcrux part of "love-crux" would imply.

@ArcaneEther
@ArcaneEther 3 года назад
I don't like this theory, there's too many moving parts. I think the simpler explanation is that since Harry was an unexpected 7th Horcrux, he was able to survive one and ONLY ONE Avadakedavra. Voldemort was the only known Wizard to have created a Horcrux using a living creature as a vessel for the soul fragment - he did so once intentionally in Nagini and again unintentionally in Harry. When Avadakedavra hits a target, it _separates the soul without dealing physical harm to the body_ . When Harry was hit by Voldemort's Avadakedavra, the "price" of a soul had to be paid - but Harry had _two souls_ in him at that moment; his own and the fragment of Voldemort's. Since Avadakedavra's "cost" is paid with only one soul, the other was allowed to return. The fragment of Voldemort inside of Harry was weak and frail, as shown by the baby corpse thing, so it could not make the return to life, leaving Harry the option of being the refunded soul. The same would have been possible for Nagini, IF she were the target of an Avadakedavra. She was not, though. Her body was physically destroyed by Neville and the Sword of Godric Gryffindor - so there was nothing to return to and both souls went "On". I subscribe to Dumbledore's theory that the Peverell brothers never actually met Death; that they were just three exceptionally gifted Wizards who invented three powerful magical items and took the secrets of their creations to their graves. The three Deathly Hallows don't actually make one a "Master of Death", they're all three just neat toys.

I think it’s a combination of Lily’s protection and the fact that Harry was a horcrux, when avada kedavra hit Harry it separated both souls from his body sending him to limbo at which point Harry could choose which way to go, this also explains why Harry could see the mutilated bit of Voldemort’s soul at kings cross aka limbo, because it left Harry’s body at the same time as Harry’s soul. The only reason he had a choice to live or die was because Voldemort’s blood tethered Harry to life, but it didn’t force him one way or another, it allowed him to choose unlike a horcrux.
@presspause1993
@presspause1993 3 года назад
@@arhamqureshi5150 yes, this video is explaining the canon reason why Harry lived in the books. It is not a theory made up by SCB. I do question whether Harry would have been completely unaffected if he had been hit with the curse multiple times, but that’s another question. Harry was tethered to life by Voldemort taking in some of his blood. Dumbledore tells Harry that this is the reason. As far as Nagini goes; she could not have come back after Avada Kedavra. It is mentioned that creating a horcrux of a living creature is so uncommon and dangerous because of how vulnerable they are. They could die by natural causes and that would be the end of the horcrux. Also remember that Harry and the other horcruxes are not the same because Harry was not made intentionally and so he is acting like a horcrux but not officially one.

I absolutely love Harry Potter, but I would love to see a “ venting video” on things that don’t make sense. Like how they seemingly know nothing about the muggle world, but have been going to school with muggles since they were eleven. And why do they dress differently, and at what age do they stop trying to dress similar to muggles (like the weasleys, young dumbledore and everyone else at hogwarts) and start dressing in robes and wizard hats a la older Dumbledore and professor mcgonagle. And even if the weasleys were poor, how could two highly talented wizards not be able to perform spells to improve a lot of their situations. Why do they seems to love candy and sweets so much? And how did they learn to read if no school before 11 and what did they do? And learn how to measure or collect ingredients for future potions class. How do muggle-born parents not spill the beans about the wizarding world? I’ve always kind of assumed a version of the the Fidelius charm, but that doesn’t seem to add up. Where do muggle students tell their muggle friends and family they go to school. Do you have to use a wand to get in trouble using magic as an underage wizard? Is it common for wizard families to throw infants out a window to see if they are magical? And I know this will bring a lot of hate, but how quidditch doesn’t make any sense at all. if anything it would be better played on the ground except maybe the seekers but the snitch would have to stay inbounds, like what’s stopping it from literally taking off? Why is Ron the only one to ever wear a quidditch helmet. Not even his little sister wears one. And the cursed child….

I don't like using the term "murderer" in regards to Harry killing Voldemort. Murder isn't synonymous will kill. It's a legal term referring to homicide under certain circumstances. @Kilthan2050
@Kilthan2050 3 года назад
This is actually common misconception. You encounter it a lot when it comes to religion. Specifically, one of the Ten Commandments of Christianity and Judaism. "Thou Shalt Not Kill" Is how it is usually said, but the Hebrew word used is best translated as "Murder" as it implies the unjustified taking of an innocent life. Thus "Thou shalt not kill" and "Thou shalt not murder" are two entirely different things. Its a bit of nuance people need to learn and remember. Harry killing Voldemort would not have been murder. But its a lesson Harry himself had to learn, too. At the end of OOTP, after he learns the prophecy, Harry thinks to himself how his journey must culminate in murder, either his or Voldemort's. It takes him time to learn to the difference, so at the end, he doesn't think of stopping voldemort as murder, but he does refuse to use lethal means against imperiused Stan Shunpike, an innocent. Or, as Dumbledore says to Snape, only Snape knows if sparing an old man from pain suffering will damage his soul.

I think we’re mixing two separate things here. Lily’s sacrifice was in Harry’s blood and that shouldn’t age out. Dumbledore then built upon it with the whole Aunt Petunia-house room thing which expired when he could no longer call Privet Drive home. That merely meant he was even safer at Privet Drive and couldn’t be attacked while there. But that additional charm breaking when he came of age didn’t negate Lily’s sacrifice living on in Harry.

@TheBoss-vs7vs
@TheBoss-vs7vs 3 года назад
I don't think that's the point he was stressing. Obviously, counter-attack killing may be a situation of self-defence. But still it remains an attack that wouldn't have killed your opponent without your willingness. It's ACTIVE self-defense. In order to safe your life, you kill the criminal. You're not evil, but still you willingly killed someone. Active self defense. Which is completely different from Harry's case at the end of the saga. Harry merely wanted to survive e was totally passive in Voldemort's death. The Elder Wand merely resisted and then backfired. PASSIVE self defence. Basically, the fact that Harry became the master of the Elder Wand made possible for Voldemort to die at the hand of Harry without the latter being a murderer. In fact, because of Trelawney's First Prophecy (which became inevitable from the exact moment in which Voldemort marked Baby Harry as his equal the prophecies), the only way for defeating the Dark Lord was with Harry doing/causing so. With the involvement of the EW, Voldemort de facto died because of Harry's (wand's) passive self defence. Without the EW, Harry's passive self-defence (and so the integrity of Harry's soul) wouldn't have been possible. We must remember that Snape was worried for his soul, even if he agreed Dumbledore's death with Dumbledore himself. So, we must presume that Harry's active self defence may have harmed his soul.

@@TheBoss-vs7vs He wouldn't have been a murderer either way, even if he hadn't been master of the elder wand. THAT is the part if my point neither you nor he seemed to get. It wouldn't harm his soul because he wouldn't have murdered. Maybe there is some extremist religion that would view self defense as murder, but every system of morality I am familiar with does not, so there's really no reason to assume J.K. Rowling would.

I’ve always wondered if someone could just say “accio resurrection stone” and get it from the forest. Like i get it’s dropped in the forest and seems difficult to find because who can find one single stone in a forest. A wizard, that’s who. And there are a huge population of wizards right there. Is there a minimum or maximum distance for that spell? And if Harry could only use the resurrection stone because he was the master of death, does that mean it’s useless now without the elder wand?

My theory that Dumbledore put the resurrection stone inside the snitch is specifically for this reason, you can't Accio a snitch (that would cheat and end a Quidditch game) so it protects the stone from the very same. My theory for why you can't Accio the stone outside of hte snitch is that you have to have intent for Accio to work. I think A) only Harry knows the stone is in the forest and B) only harry has seen it and touched it and that experience with the object gives him the ability to summon the object but not having the experience with it you can't just summon something you don't know. If you COULD that would allow cheating in the Triwizard tournament. Harry Accio'd his firebolt, he never Accio'd the egg. That would be too easy if you could Accio anything.

I think that objects which bear such intricate magic cannot be "accio-ed", as evidenced with the horcruxes

What I always wanted to know about the wizarding world is how Spell crafting works? How are wizards able to create new spells and what are the rules?
@maucklein
@maucklein 3 года назад
I think it goes this way: three steps. Intention: using pure will for what you intend the spell to do. Incantation: a specific word that conveys your intention in it's purest form. And wand work: an specific movement of the wand that let you channel the intention trough your magic. It would require plenty of study and practice to achieve this, all the notes that Snape leaves on the potion book made me think it's a step process, then when you master it you could leave the incarnation behind, maybe even the wand work, cause you're too familiar with the spell to muster it from pure will.

@@maucklein snapes spells are the main reason for my interest in this topic. There are so many things that feel improbable to pull from thin air to reach the specifics of a spell. Intention is also a weird one. Harry uses on of snapes spells without knowing what it does and it works. So once a spell is a spell and is cast correctly, it works even without intention. So if two separate wizard in time were trying to create a spell for the same purpose, would they result in the same spell? Is there some underlying truth you have to uncover, or do you create something new?

Now, I'm just spitballing here. If one would have to eat a person that was murdered by his own hand in order to make a horcrux, does that mean that Voldemort either ate James or Lily that night that he attacked Harry? Is that maybe why James's sacrifice wasn't as powerful?

Your videos are always fun. thanks!!! A trivia question for you ... The fall term at Hogwarts goes from Sept 1st to mid-December. Classes resume right after New Years but don't end until late June. (25-26 weeks) The summer break is only July and August. So, what's the school's "semester" schedule ... and what was Harry's class schedule? (Admittedly vague, but we do have some hints.)

Another great theory would be about the stone's success rate in the willful death of it's owner, what about the afterlife is so great that your loved ones actively entice you to die, even though some of them sacrificed themselves to ensure your survival. The flip in their viewpoint alone is intriguing. I mean honestly everyone who showed up for Harry were adamant that Harry should live in their last moments.
