How Did He Survive This!! Reviewing Insane Firefight 

That last guys name is Ted Daniels. Dated my buddys mom about 10 years ago. A year or so after the video took place. From his point of view he was trying to draw fire away from his guys so they could get adequate positions. Got shot in the ass, a bullet skimmed his helmet, and one went through his grenade launcher but he didn't have it loaded luckily. Thats why he dropped his gun. He's honestly one hell of a good dude!

The soldier in the last video is named Ted Daniels. He is a good personal friend of mine . He ran down that mountain side to draw fire away from his unit. He was struck several times by enemy fire but made a full recovery. He is a hell of a good man that I’m lucky to know. He’s a family man and a prominent public figure in our area.

That early Iraq war footage was definitely Fallujah. In fact that opening shot was Highway 10. We were laying down hate because there was almost no damn cover and we weren't about to go sprinting into a damn kill zone. We shot the hell out of everything that moved on the other side. I probably went through at least 4 belts on my M240. (Yeah, I was a 0331) Even though we were Marines, the Army was nice enough to send multiple Bradleys to back us up, dumping their chain guns into buildings just to be sure. The rivalry between branches didn't exist in that city. After all, we're all Americans at the end of the day. The thing that really sticks with me is that my mom's birthday was during that operation and that entire day all I could think was "DO NOT DIE ON YOUR MOTHER'S BIRTHDAY." I was on point clearing houses that day too, was a nervous wreck by the end of it. Wasn't worried about myself, just couldn't do that to my mother.

Viewers of this channel that weren't in combat please understand Lunkers personality, motions, words, confusion, loss of memory, and any other traits that may seem rather odd are par for the course with PTSD veterans. Some of the happiest people are the most depressed. I suffer from severe depression and complex PTSD and can attest that these mental illnesses are difficult to handle. His forgotten comments are conversations that he thought he could remember without staying focused are many. Maybe he thought since it was important that he wouldn't forget. But he did. That is how different his mind works. He gets comfortable in what he is going to say but forgets it because his comfort level trumped his focus level. Triggers for PTSD will come from watching these videos and first person shooter (FPS) games like 'Call of Duty' etc... However, being placed in this environment and being able to have some sort of control with familiar gear, weapons, etc. also helps those who went from handling weapons daily to not having any at all. You could feel lost, unneeded, and lonely. Also knowing that you will come out alive helps reenforce that your actions were correct. Just that the outcome in your mental state is somewhat confused. Research shows that combat veterans who play FPS have shown improvement in several health issues some regarding PTSD. I hate to use the old cliche 'get back on the horse when you fall off' but we don't need to bury everything from our past. Just filter and absorb the good while focusing on getting better. Those thoughts, actions, outcomes, are always lurking. We, somehow, need to keep them suppressed with whatever means possible. Kudos Lunker for your daily fight with this horrid illness. @1:33 It's a fiber optic. It absorbs light, similar to a solar panel, and powers the ACOG. I think what you were about to say, is that he has tape on it to reduce the amount of power coming into his ACOG. In high light environments they are notorious for having blindingly powerful reticles. Cool video 👍

This happened in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. From the cameraman: " I got a hit a total of 4 times. My helmet cam died and I made it down the mountain on my own. I was also hit in the side of my helmet and my eye pro was shot off of my face. We were doing overwatch on the village to recon and gather intel. I was point heading down the face of the hill with the LT. when we got hit. The rest of the squad was pinned down by machine gunfire. I didn't start the video until a few mins into the firefight for obvious reasons. I came out into the open to draw fire so my squad could get to safety." "A round struck the tube by my hand of the 203 grenade launcher which knocked it out of my hands. When I picked the rifle back up it was still functional but the grenade launcher tube had a nice sized 7.62 cal bullet hole in it and was rendered useless. "

The last video is my old friends step dad. His name is Ted Daniels. I remember him telling the story about this video. When he yelled out “I’m hit” he actually got the gun shot out of his hand and wasn’t actually hit. Such an amazing guy and I’m glad someone finally reacted to this video.

Apperantly from some comments I saw a while ago, his platoon was in a very vulnerable situation so he exposed himself to draw fire away from his buddies. It still would require them to come rescue you from what logically is an even worse position. I haven't done much digging but that's what I heard.

Once those rounds started hitting at his feet (pretty damn consistently accurate fire from the enemy) his lizard brain took over and he panicked. You can really hear it in his call outs, he was just scared and calling for help. Harrowing shit and I'm glad he survived. As to why he went down the hill in the first place? Maybe he thought he could get to better cover down the hill and underestimated how quickly he could get there? Tis a mystery.

The ACOGs I’ve worked with use either a tritium insert (think night sights) or a strip of fiber optic material to catch light and illuminate the reticle. As far as the actual name for the component I can’t help you there, but I can tell you it’s made out of either fiber optic material or the radioactive substance tritium.

Just found you and it seems cool. I was never in the service but my brother was two tours of Afghanistan two tours of Iraq and a combat medic he was blown up twice and lived his second time messed him up but the man wanted to go back. I went to wild land firefighting and felt the camaraderie there with my crew so when my brother talked about that I could kinda relate. Plus my crew boss was ex special forces so he trained us like we where going to war and needing to have one another's back.

Everytime I see that last vid come up aside from even moving downhill, I still can't comprehend on why he planted himself on that side of the rock....u can see it as he approached and he could got complete cover from backside. Either way I'm glad he survived it💪

I was a 19 Delta cav scout and I was considered a heavy scout so we were mechanized. The man gun is a 25 Mike Mike and it's Armour piercing rounds are fucking nasty. The you have the law which is a wired guided rocket and a 240 bravo turret mounted. The are actually pretty fast and agile for their size and a blast to drive!

The cable on top of the ACOG TA31F is a fiber optic cable. It takes in light. You put tape on it in the daylight to prevent the reticle from washing out. Becoming too fuzzy to aim properly. You take the tape off at night. Fun times!

I think I saw the last video a couple of years ago and from what I remember hearing is that the man rushed down the hill as a way to divert the fire towards himself instead of his squad. But in the end most of his squad is either killed or injured.

A friend came back from across the water and just recently started getting some events off his chest and from some of the things he has told me just being in a fire fight can bring the strongest people down to nothing. In his words just the fact people are trying and willing to kill you takes something never returned and replaces it with an eye always scanning your next step And caution is first always everywhere. I asked him if he ever killed someone and he stopped talking to me for two years . The same guy I knew but changed completely,not the marines teachings or the being away but from the fighting I suppose and being injured by an ied and being on high alert24-7. He was as close to a brother a friend can be but not anymore. Still my friend just not the same . What do the people that send guys like my friend off become after signing a piece of paper and sleeping in their own bed. ? Nobody wins and everyone suffers. I asked him to answer one question and that I would never ask another if he did. I asked what he learned from it if anything . He just laughed and said he learned he wanted more . I learned that the next war , both sides involved should go after the motherfuckers that started it. And throw a party to be celebrated. Both sides Sorry I don’t watch vids like this it randomly popped up for some reason and wanted to get some stuff off my chest you happened to be there apologies this was no jab at you.

I remember watching that "I'm hit" video about 5 years ago and the whole time I was wondering the same thing. Why in hell would you be hanging out in that wide ass open area with no cover and it's obviously slow moving trying to go back up?

Fiber optic filament. Most Trijicon ACOG have tritium in them, so they will still glow in total darkness. The tape is for daylight, to dim the sight and provide a better picture at longer distances. The magnification isn't the strongest on them.

The last clip of the guy on the hillside lives in my hometown. His name is Ted Daniels and was given a house right next to my best friend after receiving the Purple Heart and was one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Truly a warrior at heart.

I was in 3/2 Lima Co and our sister Battalion 1/2 got hit hard in An Nasiriyah… we went and helped them out. 3rd ID was on our flank when we pushed in for the invasion. This was an everyday fire fight for a few weeks at a time.

My first deployment we were on a valley to and our dumb ass NCO ordered us down the 300 meter valley. About half way down we began taking accurate small arms fire and RPGs, after about 45 minutes of losing a firefight, we began taking mortar fire. We were pinned down for about 3 hours until the beautiful freedom birds came and delivered their justice. If not for those boner inducing warthogs, we would have never made it off what my unit began to call, The valley of death.
