So, how do I know if I am using my glutes while running? Running posture! This question came up after I a posted a video called "Glute Activation For Runners (Named Kofuzi)." It is a good question. Now that we know how to get the glutes activated before a run, how to we know if they are working properly while running? The key is that the glutes should not be the primary focus. Your running posture has everything to do with whether the glutes are activating or not.

Unfortunately, they have been barking like that for years. I guess I have learned to tune them out to some degree.

Keep up the great videos...I love watching these. I have ankylosing spondylitis and have been running for nearly 2 years. Careful attention to my posture is important. Thank you for what you do!

Yes...you have to be careful with AS to accept most of the load through the muscular system and not the spine. I feel for you with that one. Keep pressing on!

Now this makes 100% sense! Thank you for this follow up video! After your first video on this, I went out on a 17 mile run focusing on using my glutes and it worked! I made it back fresh and no knee pain/discomfort! It dramatically smoothed out my stride! Every foot strike transition was smooth and controlled and all of my muscles felt evenly worked and balanced implementing glute activation. This video clearly showed me how to make sure I am continuing to use my glutes effectively with posture. I will see how the 17 mile run goes today.

Great tip. As a striving to be average runner old guy, I have found that slowing down and tightening up my core eases most discomfort and improves efficiency. I didn't realize that was how ensure glute activation.
@AverageRunningPT
@AverageRunningPT 3 года назад
Postural positioning determines which muscles have to activate. Making sure your spine and pelvis are correctly positioned will definitely reduce discomfort and create a better opportunity for glutes to fire.

I think this was a very informative video but all I remember is the squeaking chihoho and sirens. Seriously, this was helpful. As I gain more and more experience running I have come to ‘feel’ when I am running with my glutes engaged more often. Hard to explain but it is something that you understand once it happens.
@AverageRunningPT
@AverageRunningPT 3 года назад
It is definitely hard to explain, but you are absolutely right. It is truly a "feel" thing. So sorry, about the dogs.

Super helpful. How to train my muscle to prevent pelvic tilt? Should I strengthen the core muscle first? Any exercises you can share?
@AverageRunningPT
@AverageRunningPT 3 года назад
Maintain a posterior pelvic tilt while performing a plank! Let me know how it goes.

Keep the pelvis level. Roger that. How is it done. Seems quite hard to clench my abs while running.

Glad I discovered your channel! My glutes actually get sore when I do strenuous long runs, something i do feel during the run. Is that an issue like muscular imbalance or just weakness?

The claim about facet joints is bullshit. Lookup the spinal engine theory. You need that curve to translate lateral bending into rotational torque to translate power to the legs.
