How does a GM read chess books?

Saptarshi Roy, India's 51st GM, is a book lover. When he got to know that over 5000 books have arrived at the ChessBase India office in Mumbai, he decided to pay us a visit. He bought five new books and in this interview we ask him about why chose those books. We also ask Saptarshi how he reads these chess books - does he use a chess board or hr plays over the moves in his mind. We also ask him about his all time favourite chess books.

I want to know that when he finishes books whether he reads variations also. I think it is very tough to finish a book in 3 to 5 days days by reading variations also.

Play each game out physically on the board. Try to guess every next move and compare your notes with the book. You then understand why such and such move was made by the player.

It's a thing with men of a certain background from West Bengal and Odisha (states in India). Mostly lucky charms each is a type of stone that is supposed to bring some luck or ward off a particular evil.
