I want to mention that I loooooove the portrayal of Persephone as a woman past her 20es, 30es even. She is so often portrayed as a girl, or sometimes young woman. Which does make sense, she is young when Hades takes her. But this Persephone has history. She is a mother, of (now two) adult children. And while the game takes place in the middle of the myth of her abduction, it draws that time out and commits to her portrayal as a *full adult* which makes sense for the character and is just so refreshing. And they made her hot! And Demeter, too! Delightful!
I was already in love with demeter and then the hades 2 demeter design ended my life. Can't wait to see how persephone looks now but my god are signs of aging their own beauty
A small mistake /* is that the greeks (and romans) LOVED colour; The marble statues were more often then not coloured with deeply saturated pigments (not too dissimilar to christian statues that get paraded around in old european towns/cities today). When it came to preserving them in the modern day we grew an obsession with the statues in their "bare" form as it lets us see the absolute artistry with just the shadows highliting the form. (The paint would have fallen off over decades/centuries and when they were still in use as religious symbols would be re-painted periodically)

It's worth saying that gods were colorized themselves in the own mythology. In Illiad, for example, Ares was copper-coloured; Hera was plain white; Zeus was cerulean (sky-blue with tones of green); Aurora was pink et coetera
I think it good to point out that, at least for me, one reason for why the gods are so beautiful is that they are surprisingly natural. In this day and age, rarely do you see non-standartly beautiful people in media. What otherwise would be hidden away in other media, on the Hades cast, it is pointed out, paid attention to. It didn't have to be, the gods are drawn. They could have been "perfect". But instead, they are not, and it is treated as a beatiful thing. I love that. So much.
I love it for both the reason that a) chaos is fucking hot and b) it seems that chaos has become more “human” for lack of a better word from their interactions with Zag and their reconnecting with Nyx

For anyone who hasn’t seen the hades documentary I highly recommend it. It’s a real deep dive into the making of the game and the people behind it. It also made me emotional at times !
Definitely. A lot of things that were completely uncontroversial (femmes with short hair, dudes with feelings, boldly diverse art direction in indies) few years ago suddenly became a problem when it turned out you can farm money and engagement from speaking about it.
10:10 fun detal from a greek myth fan, its also worth knowing that hades had the epiphet of Plouton, meaning the rich one, and considering the underworld was... well in the world under, caves, a lot of cathonic gods would ofc have jewels and metal becuase thats where most of the precious metals are.
I am talking about how most gods in general stay away from the atractivness that was mentioned in the video. Hell zeus and poseidon look like middle aged men. Demeter looks fine i supoose but there are gods like the fire and metal ones that i feel are made to specificly not be atractive in any way.

Something interesting I noticed about Athena’s design is that her skin is the color of river clay, relating how one would need a malleable mind to exceed at tactics and strategy.

When it comes to Chaos my reading is that, due to the events of Hades, Chaos has been brought closer to the mortal realm through Zagreus and Nyx. They are an ever changing force, and between the gods and the mortals its mortals who change the most quickly. Thusly instead of a roiling mass of divine matter too large to see Earth as anything other than a mildly amusing trinket, we get avery human form that is still incredibly mysterious. The suit is formal, and the aesthetic is purposeful, yet we see them holding their own head which is birthing yet another form. This is still a completely alien being, just one charading as nearly a god. Chaos is taking on a form more similar to mortality as a sign of advanced time changing their perspective; their relation to the mortal world has given them a reason to see the unpredictable beauty of every day life. It Also is a sign that, where in Hades Chaos is unbothered, moisturized, staying in their lane: in Hades2 Chaos means business. Something has drawn their eye all but fully to the mortal realm and they are reflecting that.

Greek statues oftentimes were literal replicas of real people and even the statues of Gods were heavily based on rulers or influential beautiful people, it was basically their equivalent of taking a photo. It's 'incel behaviour' to find realistic depictions of people attractive?

Idk if it was well known, but Hades was a bisexual icon. It didn't need to go so hard with providing the experience of a happily polygamous relationship, but it did. Bisexuality is often erased, so I'm quite happy there's an underdog in the media. I can't wait to see what they are doing with the sequel, the music is already so spectacular. 12:40 The only evidence we have for the kidnapping part of Persephone's mythos, is a book for either the late 19th or early 20th century, where the author only cited themself as a source. Most evidence we have points towards persephone being the original goddess of the underworld, before a change in mythology part way through the classical era split Zeus into three separate gods, Hades became a thing, and they made him an underworld god.
to me it's just how kinda normal yet wierd the characters feel, like they don't feel a lot like actors playng a role and more like real people, that and the fact that they aren't actualy hyper hot, like of course you have examples like zag per say, but look also at athena, afrodite, artemis, you end up liking them not beacause of hyper "pretty" traits, but beacause they feel more relatable than most just perfect and impossibly beautyfull examples you have in other media
chthonic gods, especially Hades are depicted rich because Hades is not only a god of the underworld but also a god of all underworld riches. where do all the world's riches come from? gold, silver, rare metals, gems and minerals they are all deep within the earth, which is a Hades' domain. if Hades were to get a modern characterization then he would no doubt be an oil and gas tycoon.
Y'know, I'm all for people being as horny as they like over the game and its character designs, lord knows I found Meg and Aphrodite's designs quite appealing myself in the original game, but, I have to ask: at what point did all Hades discourse seem to become like 99% thirstposting and the like? I'm not gonna pretend that wasn't always part of the appeal and all, and was a big part of the discussion, but like, I remember the game being celebrated largely for being incredibly fun and allowing you to tailor your own playstyle and build to your runs, with an engaging story that allowed you to get lost in a near-endless amount of unique interactions, many of which had nothing to do with romance or about how such-and-such looked. Seems like all Hades 2 discourse is about is how horny everyone is. It's a bit off-putting, to be honest. I'm not trying to be the fun police here, but damn, some of y'all. don't know if someone in the comments already pointed it out, but the remark about ancient greek art being more monochromatic is only true for pottery. see, most marble statues were painted pretty brightly, but the paint didn't withstand the passage of time. chemical traces of it can still be detected tho, and there have even been atempts at recreating the colours. the result looks quite tacky by todays standards. that being said I don't think it invalidates your point, on the contrary it gives new light on the artistic choice of using bright colour coding in the game.
I really woulda preferred Hades 2 as like a comic or something, the game play was done well enough in the first Hades, and it just feels reused in the 2nd. The story IS great, and so is the art, which is why i'd rather just read as a story. xd

The characters look good, but I don't know why people think they're hot, I think are just generally attracted to Greek Gods, I really don't think any of the characters actually is sexually attractive they just look cool.

The first games designs were stunning. But Hades 2 designs are so disappointing. I gagged when I saw Heras design and her godawful dress. My friend said the designs look AI generated and then loosely drawn over 😭💔
You do realize that hera’s animal is a peacock right? It makes sense to have a peacock theme. Also a lot of the character designs aren’t finished yet. You can tell because some of them do look like sketches. Give it time
