I've compared my best F1 Esports qualifying attempt to the time of the leaderboard-topping qualifier. How hard is it to beat him?

I remember I spent an entire day just doing laps of Silverstone on F1 21. I think by the end of the evening, the lap counter was well over 200 laps. I'd spent the day tweaking the setup, watching dozens of RU-vidrs for tips on gears for each corner, turned off every single assist, and put in a lap so perfect I almost cried. Every apex hit, every corner the car was absolutely on the edge, no twitchiness out of the corners, it was the absolute dream - the perfect lap. "Surely I'm getting close to the top end of gaming, being able to run such a perfect lap", I said to myself. Returned to the garage, I was top 1,000 in the TT leaderboards! I was delighted! Looked at the lap times, and there it was - 2 seconds off of number 1. And that was the point I realised that there's something about these guys. The likes of Opmeer, Bereznay and Moreno possess that intangible. Yes, they practice for 10 hours a day, yes, they put in a supreme amount of work to be where they are, and they deserve every credit and every plaudit they get. But they have an innate ability that deep down, no matter what I do, I'll never be able to match (or get close to matching.

While I probably agree with you, spending 4 hours on one day training Silverstone can't be compared to "10 hours a day" that you mentioned
@salmaofinlandes6793
@salmaofinlandes6793 2 года назад
Those guys don't any "innate ability deep down". You could argue Senna, Schumacher, Hamilton did. But those esports drivers are really just average joe's that practice and want to be the best in this game way more than you do. There's nothing innate about being fast on a game like f1 2021, it's pure practice.

Also understanding that the top10 during qualifying are within a tenth of a second... and the grid is within 2, 4 tenths will not cut it. The precision of this guys is amazing. Even when they race, what they do, at that precisions and at that speed, it is amazing

you were quite close to the threshold back then given with the minor practicing you do in comparison but the older ya get the more practice you need to maintain or exceed your level. it also seems to me the e sports runner is rotating his wheel a lot less than you do and uses the throttle more to help rotate the car in a controlled way and we all know how the more you steer the more speed and rubber you scrub off, so it works 2 fold. and yea amazing run bij tomek there bravo

I sometimes get cocky and think I might be able to qualify for F1 eSports in the not-so-distant future. I joined a casual racing league last week. Short qualifying in Canada - I qualified almost 2s behind pole. Then for the race. The track was soaked and the rain was pouring down. Lap 1, I bin it in to the wall trying to get traction out of turn 7. Reality check completed ✅ Spectating the guy who started on Pole. He was trying to keep tyre temp under the ensuing safety car that I caused. Coming up to the final chicane before the restart, he also bins it in to the wall. The pros are ridiculously good. Far better than I think I could ever realistically be.

@itsgeorgemorgan
@itsgeorgemorgan 2 года назад
@@maiden5427 to be honest it can't be! I think really though, teams should play a pivotal role in selecting the drivers. The issue I do have around Esports Event qualification is that while its a measure of pace, it doesn't necessarily measure race craft. The league system is a perfect hive that exhibits drivers and it also gives a good measure as to how consistent a driver is.

Not bashing, but clearly something else he wasn't doing, that you were doing, was thinking you can't do it. I get it, running to the line that can make or break you during the quals. will force about everyone into safe mode just inside it. The key is practicing to be comfortable with it long before the quals. It is another reason why they say driving consistency is the most important ingredient, but most gaff it off, because its the technique requiring the most patience and will force you slower than you already are. Once you master consistency, at lower levels, its just about a never ending creep step by step to get you closer to running at that edge..consistently. THIS is what the top level have, and this is the main ingredient team recruiters will look for. When trying to learn from a pro, instead of focusing on what they are doing now, try to learn what they did coming up, if that is accessible of course. This was a great vid on a topic not usually covered...Thx

One thing I noticed is that you are running different camera settings. Tomeks seems to be more back and for me it looks a little bit easier to align the car and hit the apex. With your camera it looks a little bit unaligned which might make you more uncomfortable going for those really tight lines. Either way, both runs are great! :)

Alex, it’s not talent… he has a marginally better setup and also it is because he practices more than you do. When you get to drive 14 hours a day, then you become that good. You also need a break … but if you do this for years, then you get that good (and the setup is also the result of him driving so much)

I wish I could afford to buy a wheel after mine broke otherwise I actually can do this. Its all about being in the "zone". Its this weird thing you go through where you are comletely in sync with the car, even in a game, to the point where you do every lap back to back exactly the same. The reason is a mixture of raw ability and time in the car, the more time you have and the more used to the car you are in every situation, the faster you go without even really feeling like you are pushing, because you know the limits of the car on that track at that turn. Its a crazy feeeling
