You are getting better and better with every video on the explanation of the basics of the trade. This will be invaluable to the youngsters just picking up the trowel....superb, mate.👍
I thought this. Genuinely learnt more watching him than I did my whole 2 years as an apprentice lol. The gang he’s got round him atm are very lucky hope they stay keen purely for there sake
Each of your bricks could do with a Tupperware tub each with the various wall ties in there using and keep them in there tool boxes save them being chucked around on floor, awesome as usual Charlie. stay safe everyone.. Gazza
This video is brillaint I'm thinking of transitioning from a spare trowl / labouring To a full a time trowl in another gang and this video is perfect it just shows thers so many ways to do things but the little things you show like the back of the former and knock it in against the level so you don't have chip away the back of the face brick Not enough people out ther like you dude Top man keep up the good work and the videos too lol
if you don't mind me asking, do you need a car to do a apprenticeship for construction? also what's the money like just wondering obviously i know its not a lot as you are learning but just wanna know
@@lewzyt843 you don’t need a car, depends on where your boss lives he would usually pick you up or you can commute with busses, you get paid around 9k for 1st year 10k for second and 12k for 3rd and 14+ for fourth, many employers pay more if you can drive but it’s all down to your boss
26:18 minutes in and ive learned even more, i done 1 year brickwork/carpentry at collage in 2010 im 26 now been a labour/skilled lol need to go back a finish it ! Thanks bro
I always lay 3 courses of brick to gauge on the outside skin then just measure and set the lines to the overal wall width over the bricks and run the first course of blocks in to the line checking for plumb with a boat level. This way the 1st course is always bang on to gauge and exact width, makes setting up the corners much easier with the first course gone off next day. I run 1st course through on all internals too same way.
When I was an apprentice on 1s3d (7p) an hour (60 years ago) we didn't have no money to get lashed, things changed towards the end after 5 years, but you get over it. With lockdown I am now teetotal. I like your way of explaining what you are doing and why. How big will your gang become. It would be nice if you introduced them I have lost track of who is who.
Hey Charlie, i love your videos. Just wondering if you would consider teaching at a college later in your career? I did 35 years on the tools and now teach young people carpentry and its really rewarding. Keep up the great videos. Great to see you working with a great team of guys. All the best. Mark
When carpenter finished with old saw we would use it for blocks and as for traps on scaffolds ne era had guard rails on some site and my uncle who was a carpenter fell through a trap 2 lifts down he went broke 4 ribs on his own crawled to his car and driv up hospital
24:00 gotta lay with youre eye and check with the level also when your doing a cut if you measure and know the size of the cut and you know you need more than one mark each end of the block and do both cuts at the same time and measure the cut for the next course at the same time
Why not put a full block against the door frame and then a single cut block up to the corner, instead of laying three blocks on alternate courses, (each joint is a a weakness in the wall) and it would be near enough half bond any way - just a waste of time and material doing it this way!
ive got the choice of going to college to do multi craft construction for 6months then 2 years of bricklaying or i could jump on with my brother as a labourer with my other brother after i get my cscs card any advice
I’m currently doing bricklaying at college and the mortar that the college makes us use is complete shit. The stuff you use is nice and smooth and soft, our stuff is hard and lumpy even with water added to keep it soft. Very frustrating to work with but watching your videos makes it worth the trouble.
Hi can you tell me what decides which way the first block goes your 1st one was whole towards the frame and second down the flank , does it matter ? (Apprentice here) cheers
Hi Charlie just a random question, when you've laid a brick or block to the line and all is good, then you proceed to lay the next course on top, then you are tapping and moving this second course why doesn't it disturb the course underneath? By the way I am not a brick layer just an avid subscriber. Cheers for all your content, I thoroughly enjoy it.
Hey bro quick question my bricklayer built up to DPC I went round and measured the cavity’s it’s supposed to be 150mm but some are 160 is it going to be a big problem ?
What test you doing tomorrow Charlie? Something to do with your CSCS card? Nice tips on the walkthrough block corner.👍 So if Tom goes full time laying, that would be you, Bricky Amy, Harry , Jamie and Tom. That's 5 on the trowel. So you need to get two labour/hoddy ? Great effort gang keep up the hard work🤙💪💯👍✅👌🌟👊
@@martin2466 thanks Martin just googled it and then saw your comment. @Charlie why are you doing this test, why do you want to obtain this qualification? Not knocking you just intrigued as to why? Any how good luck sure your smash the exam 👊💪🤙👍 I'm sure Bricky Amy and the others will do you proudly while your gone 👍👍💯✅🌟
No installation added ? Normally you add the installation before you put the bricks 🧱 but the bricks have been put down first then the block work or doesn’t need installation?
Hello! My name is Alex from Belarus. Really fond of your work and content. Please kindly inform how is it possible to get some merch from your side. Can you share please any contacts where we can discuss the details?
I’ve been using your method with eyeing my blockwork for plum and can safely say it’s helped me leaps and bounds, would you reccomend doing this for brickwork also?
The way we use to cut bulk thermo block in past was use chain SSW and cut five at time super fast and hardly any dust so you could about 50 or so cut bang on in about 15 min trust me we did it super farst
