I'm glad I found your channel. Been watching you for years, now, ever since I got my own truck. You don't try too hard to be something that it takes away from just watching a normal, genuine dude fix trucks.
EZ, I was thinking how cool it might be to create a playlist with all your brake repairs. You have a lot on the topic of brakes and I am eternally grateful. Thank You!
I work for a small company. I don't care what others commented. Good job. We do our own brakes, tires, small engine work. Just did water pump lol. Keep doing your thing.
appreciate it. the keyboard warriors don't bother me much. you can do a 30 min video and cover every aspect of something and everyone gets bored and dose not watch it or you can do a quick and dirty video that covers the basics enough to help someone threw there first time doing a job like this. some people will pick apart. i don't feel this is one of my best video's but its one of my more popular ones right now. i knew when i made this one that some people would pick it apart no biggie. ill probably do some more video's on breaks at some point covering topics like removing seized anchor pins and how to properly measure break adjustment ect for people that info.
Well damn. Finally a video showing how I do it except I have the fancy OTC tool for the 2 side springs. It’s amazing how fast and easy this way is compared to these guys messing with the other spring first. Keep up the great work bud!!!!
Helped a lot! I will potentially be working in the diesel field soon. Company mentioned that i could possibly be doing brakes and inspections. This video helped get an idea on how to do a brake job efficiently. Of course i wont quite as fast as you are, being that i have no big exp on doin the job a great number of times. But i am very thankful for the insight. Appreciate the video good sir.
This is a great video. I try to change out those damn bushings as often as possible - can be real pain in the ass to get the old ones out. I also check the king pins before taking off the tire and drum. And you had way less trouble with getting that retainer spring on the back of the shoe than I ever have. Good to see someone who knows what he’s doing
Thanks! I'm primarily electrical/ Def/ engine. I ended up getting a brake job after finding a leaking axle seal. Had prior experience on drums from being the go to guy in the shop for drums on cars... anyways! Thanks for the quick refresher course
good video! me and the guys at work always try to race each other to see who can finish faster, theres a tool for those springs but i really like your method!
You did it one handed , you are savage salute to you, i did it today after watching your video thank you so much , it took me 2 hours to do two brakes😂
Really???? Do you work as a fleet tech, or somewhere like a dealership or standard heavy duty diesel shop? Me being i went from driver to a tech, that pisses me off since there is no need to replace if they are still good. Its just extra money out of pockets. But if its a fleet company who wants to spends that money, I have 0 complaints, it's their trucks!
Amazing, you make things look so effortless, good job man!!! I have an International 4300 box truck that needs brakes. I gotta give it a go myself to save money. My slack adjusters are automatic. Any pearls of wisdom on how to loosen and then readjust the automatic slack adjusters? Your videos are great, THANK YOU!!!
Warnings !!! To all you guys that follow instructions of this “truck mechanic” He did few major beginners mistakes on semi truck brake job !!! 0. Take a look at 0:20-0:30 on his video. You can see that spring loop over roller is picking outside of brake shoes. When he installed at 1:45-2:00 that spring loop is inside of brake shoes ???? I’v seen many times that big single spring when opening while brake is applied is catching and pulling out that roller spring with roller inside and makes unfunctional brake? 0. He didn’t check for free play on s-cam what is on trailer brakes very common 0. At 5:40 of video I can see that brake drum is worn out. If you install new brake shoes on bad drum will waste 20-30% of shoes just to adjust to bad surface of the old drum 0. Installing side springs with small screw driver can be risky. I’m using locking pliers so spring can’t fly out and hurt myself 0. Those blue painted brake shoes are probably cheapest what he found. Never try to save money on your brake parts !!! Bottom line : I am diesel mechanic for a years , so I have seen many improper jobs like this one. I’m not saying that this guy is bad. Just be aware when see somebody on dry-way with hoody repairs semi truck.
People...grease the slack adjuster at atleast once a mnth also the s cam itself....northern man here and when rust and build up go too far that whole camshaft will be a VERY fun time trying to back off. Great vid

Bro I think you should start a DIY school. Your videos are way much better than what they teach us in trade school....I sure learn alotta from your videos. I like how you make ur vids. Wish you had someone to help you with the camera bro.... Keep the vids coming
i always used to take the trailer brakes up in the 70s after a lot of hill driving with a ring spanner and a hammer just turn them till they stop then back off half inch.
Thats basically called a shoe slap in our shop we replace and use the complete kit and always new drums but i understand what your trying to do thats educate these new guys props to you
Yeah this was a pad slap. Just ment to be a quick get a guy threw the basics. I really should do a more detailed video on brakes things to check and what to look for while you're there ect
Thx for sharing, I’m currently restoring a 20 ton tag along trailer especially the brakes and single brake chamber I could tell that the existing push rods have been cut inconsistent. How do I cut the new push rod so they are done correctly ? I noticed the single brake chamber have no caging system or come with caging bolt. Do I need to air the system before I measure and cut the push rod ? Thank you
Ball joint press works great for getting the old rollers out of the brake spider. And I use a bit of antiseize on the wide part of the roller on the brake spider and just a dab on just the shoulders of the s-cam rollers where the shoe seats.
I bought a heavy duty ball joint press from princess auto slapped some HP grease on the thread and it was good to go seems to be nice and strong they go on sale for $49.99 comes with some adapters too.
@@Coloradomountainexplorer snap on actually sell anchor pin remover tool..had the shop purchase one..works really well.. You'll have to see if adaptors fit transit anchor pins..the screw thread is turned down to clear hub. We use to use the c frame from ball joint kit as mentioned..
Best method for doing the anchor pins I've found is heating the spider red hot then using a ball joint press to pop out the pin. Then heat the sleeve red hot and try bending it up over itself near the slit on the sleeve. Takes an extra 15 minutes at most per axle
I just hook the to small springs first, hang the big spring, put it on the pins and hook the big spring, then I stretch the shoe with a pry bar and slide my new rollers in. Boom done.
Ball joint puller for the anchor pins. Heat on the spider is not the best unless u have to. Load up on the puller with your impact then use a mini sledge to hit the puller. Will come out every time with no heat. Just my 2 cents. Always good to try new tricks.
