We had something similar in my middle school. They made us all read "The Outsiders" for English and somehow my entire school took it to the extreme. Everyone originally was picking whatever side they wanted to be on, Soc or Greaser, for fun. But then it started getting more and more serious. Soc were jumping Greasers, Greasers were jumping the Soc. More so the Soc doing the jumping since more people wanted to be the rich dicks rather than the poor ruffians. I chose Greaser before I knew it would turn into a school wide gang war and some Soc kids tried to jump me in the weight room even. I ended up just running and weaving around equipment until I got hold of a jump rope and used it as a whip when someone got too close. They got the message when I cracked it across the leader of their little friend group across the arm and left a large welt that didn't go away for a few days. I still stick by the Greasers being better though. Who needs money when you could have friends who are like family instead? Though I had no friends so that might have just been my desire for close friends swaying me there.
