I have tried to explain how I use the app on my iPad to view and mark my PDF chart when stitching full coverage charts.

Teresa; a while ago in 2022 I asked you how you are able to do such lovely full coverages and park your stitches. You were ever so kind and explained your method in a response to me. I did not understand how you could keep your thread colors straight. I was so impressed that you could keep them straight. Watching this video from 4 years ago enlightened me to the rest of the story. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to make this video. You are a precious indeed!

Hi Theresa. I found this fascinating. I’ve done whole cloth stitching in the past, but had never done “parking”. Watching you do this with the app make so much sense. You demonstrated it so well. I used to colour in the actual paper pattern. So I guess I’ll have to convert to PDF if I ever make a complicated pattern again. Thanks for your expertise, and perfect speaking voice. 🇦🇺🇦🇺

Thank you so much for your videos on full coverage designs. This video on parking was so very helpful to me. I love how you color code the parked threads. That is so helpful to keep track of all the floss hanging. I feel I have a good understanding to try this. I may also use this method to try diagonal parking. I don't have an iPad nor this app... but I enjoyed watching. OMG ! I have never seen a start with new thread like what you did ! ..........AND I LOVE IT !!!!! Gonna do it...ya ya, gonna do it now.... ty ! I use paper charts....with highlighter. I love paper charts. If I used an app... I would always worry about something going wrong with the electronics. What I do that I haven't seen anyone else do is..... With my copies, I tape all the pages together (from behind). I don't stop stitching at the edge of a page... it all runs together...hence helps not creating a line. Then I fold it into an 8 1/2 x 11 and attach to a clip board. This works for me and I love the process of getting ready to stitch just as much as stitching itself. I truly enjoyed your video.... you made everything look so easy. Thank you !

Just watching some older videos to catch up,I've only found you 3 days ago. Im a self taught stitcher but have yet to do a full coverage and im so excited to start one and practice parking. Your videos have helped so much to take the fear away that I was having. Ive always loved bigger projects and discovering HAED etc has been amazing. Now to pick a smaller one im in love with. Looking forward to when you do flosstube videos again....until then my prayers are still with you and your family and I will watch your old ones. Stay safe

Thank you, thank you. I had downloaded GoodReader and hated it thinking it was the same as GoodNotes. After your video I realized my error. GoodNotes is so much easier to use. With your parking and GoodNotes tutorial you have changed my full coverage life. It’s so much more fun now!

Beautiful work! Your method of starting a thread is different, but the result is very neat. I loved watching you stitch your work, very organized. Your narrative was informative and easy to listen to. Thank you for all your time and effort in putting this together. I’m trying to figure out how to begin a project this detailed, and it seems overwhelming until I see videos like this. It takes a lot of confidence and courage to begin a project like yours.

I loved this I do use paper for my HAED and use a pencil to mark off what I do I haven’t used parking method haven’t had courage but after this seems straightforward I was put off how to do a square if a thread was parked but you showed that, thankfully my HAED is two strands but I like how you start your strand going to remember that, your camera action was perfect thank you for this video

Thank you, Teresa, for this very informative video. Very useful to me, as I am going to start soon my first ever HAED design, inspired by you (it is only crosses 😉). I orderd the design, I have got all the flosses, just trying to decide on the fabric. And now I have worked out my new PDF reading and marking app on my Android. It is called MetaMoji note. Works perfectly, had a good play with it. Thank you for teaching me, it is almost the same as your GoodNotes! Also definitely going to try your staggering parking method. Heaps of thanks! 🙏

Thank you so much for sharing your stitching using the app. I was mesmerized. I learned so much from you today. Your technique is what I will try I think. Of starting from the left bottom, to top right, then bottom right to top left. I never considered a rhythmic stitch like that. It's not madness. It makes perfect sense on keeping track of all your threads. I also think I will start a haed because you made the stitching seem relaxing and fun.

Hi, Sweetie! So happy to see you’re still stitching and on Flosstube!!! I’m just getting back to stitching after a two and a half year hiatus, which is the last time I stitched on my HAED. Thank you for this video! It’s the simplest example of using parking that I’ve watched. I downloaded the app to my iPad and am going to start stitching Faces of Faery 193 as soon as my fabric is delivered. It’ll be my practice run for using it on my supersized HAED. Happy stitching!

I also do my HAED patterns like this, but I use OneNote. The only thing I do differently is, I start with my bottom most parked thread in the 10X10 box so I don't have to work in between threads.

Thank you. I am just about to start a HAED, and so the way you start stitches is really interesting, I think I will give it a go. I have a Kindle and work with EZPDF, but it isn't as easy to use as GoodNotes I think. Consider me enabled to get an ipad. x

So far your video has best explained the parking technique to me. A couple of questions though, 1. do you always work down and 2. Do you only work a certain amount of the 10x10 blocks at a given time? Also have you ever left needles on your parked threads? I think I’m ready to try this on my next WIP. Thank you!

Thanks Teresa. I always like to watch someone else’s method of stitching. One tip that makes things easier when you move on to a lower square with parked threads is to lie all the threads upwards, and then work the bottom threads first. That way there are no threads in the way as you stitch. Like you I have learned so much from flosstube to make stitching easier. By the way I did notice there were two stitches right up at the top of the visible square you hadn’t stitched. Hope you don’t mind me mentioning, but it is so frustrating when you think you have finished, then find a couple of missed stitches.......guess how I know! Luckily mine wasn’t framed when I noticed! Lol!!

Yes I know about the other missing stitches I was just being lazy before making the video and though I would start with a new 10x10 block without finishing the other one lol. The stitching bottom up doesn’t tend to work for me as I usually park the easiest way to count not the closest to the last stitch lol that always makes me have loads at the bottom and still a lot further up the square lol 😂. So funny how we all have our different ways 😉

Thank you so much for providing this video. I'm absolutely spellbound. I'm trying to stitch along with you on my pathetic little Quilter's Cottage but I haven't done a stitch. I'm so open mouthed, I think I'm even drooling!! Everything looks so much better magnified on this! LOLOL Wish I had a bigger monitor! hahaha Now I see how you can do all that confetti work. I certainly couldn't do it no matter how easy you make it look, But you are a very talented lady to take on these HAEDs, I've just also seen where you hung the rose lady ( I don't know what you call her but she's rose lady to me.) and it's perfect. Hi Theresa , thank you for your very informative & helpful video. This probably is a very stupid question, but how do you get your charts into your iPad in the first place, in your notes app? I guess everyone knows this & that’s why you didn’t cover it, however I don’t. Your explanation on everything else was very clear & I guess the more you explore it, the easier it gets & the more you remember. Your parking demo was also very good, however it looks more than I could handle at the moment & I think I would totally get lost! 😂😂

I usually save my charts to Dropbox then export to goodnotes. I will see if I can do a video to explain. Also you can scan a paper chart the same way. Parking is not for everyone. You could always try just parking 2 threads and see how you get on it might make more sense to you if you try with only a couple of threads😉

Thank you for your videos, I watched your beginners series and now I’m ready to give a full coverage a go. I’m starting with the mini tea and books so fingers crossed it goes well. QQ when you finish a strand do you just tie it off at the back and start a new one? And how long do you have your thread? I’m starting with an 18 ct aida and double strand so I only feel like I’m getting a few stitches at a time, is that ok?

Hi Naomi! Thank you for you lovely comment. So when i finish a thread I just run it under some of the stitches at the back and start another one. When working with 2 strands I usually measure to my elbow and back again then fold it is half to thread the needle and that is the length I work with.

This is going to sound really silly but sometimes i feel like I’m the only stitcher to not Park threads. I know it’s useful, and people swear by it, but i just can’t deal with the threads popping through the front of my work, no matter how many times I’ve tried! Also can’t use frames, either! Very much prefer loose material to stitch with Awesome video, very chill to watch! You’ve earned a subscriber! :D

Hi Linda. Thank you for your question - Yes you have use a scanned image and upload into the app too. I have done that for my Winter White Santa chart by Mirabilia.

Rosemary Sayers I frequently scan paper patterns and turn them into PDFs. Once they are PDFs I can use them in my good reader app. I assume the same is true for good note. (I’m not Teresa but figured I’d share)

Thank you for your video. I have been wanting to retry one of my many haeds.. Is this a paid app you are using? And I don't remember you showing us, though I could be wrong, how you ended your thread. I would normally weave in the back somewhere, but guessing it gets a bit tight on haeds. I will try your starting method. The one I started I tried all combination of 1/1 full 2/1 full 2/1 tent and both 25 and 28 count.

I usual do as you said and run thread through the back to keep it tidy as it gets busy on the front with all my parked threads - I don’t find it a problem😉. I love 1 over 1 full cross on 25 and 28 😁

Yes, absolutely! I have 2 projects currently that I am doing half cross on. Peacocks Lagoon and Mini Queen Red Dragon.

Hello Teresa. Another great vídeo! I never used the parking method, but now I more encouraged to do it. Can I Just mal e one question? The app is paid, right? How do you upload the chart to the app? Do you have to open it first in the pdf app? That's probably a stupid question, but I never worked with digital charts

I usually use my Dropbox which is free here in uk. I scan or save the pdf there first then I move to goodnotes. I do the same for paper charts- scan to Dropbox then to goodnotes - this also means I have a hard copy and a working copy at all times 😉

I wondered about starting a single thread, can you tell me though, when you go through the hole with the little tail is the idea to go through the threads of the tail (if that makes sense)? Hey Tina! Fabulous that your starting your first haed go you 😉. No the idea is to get the tail down to just where when you put your needle back down the hole that there’s enough thread to catch in the stitch to get a good anchor. Nothing to do with splitting the thread - hope that makes sense x happy stitching

Hello how far have you got with alternative reality? It's so beautiful 😍 I really want this pattern but I'm not sure whether to get this one or the max colours, what do you think? Is it worth getting max colours? Your stitching looks so amazing

Hi there! Would you believe that I'm only 22.35% complete on alternative reality lol - not even half way after all this time, but I do switch out my projects a lot. I personally don't think it needs max colour as there are so many colour changes on the standard, but that said without stitching a max colour I couldn't tell you what a difference it will make other than even more colour changes lol (not for me I don't think) but all very personal preference. I have only ever stitched from a paper pattern, is there any way I can put a paper pattern on to a tablet ?

Just a thought to simplify a little - when you get to your parked threads, if you start with the parked ones furthest right and furthest down, then you won’t need to move the other threads out of the way when you are stitching. Go me and simplifying! Xx

What an awesome way to keep track of your place when there are many, many thread changes. I’m going to see if I can scan the Mirabelia I am working on into my laptop and see if I can get it into Dropbox and then Good Notes. I think I have read all the comments and I did not see anyone ask the question I have about parking your threads. When you park your threads on the front, are you leaving your needle on the thread and parking the needle with the thread on the top of your work or are you removing the thread from the needle and just leaving the thread on the top of your work? If you are removing the needle then you have to re-thread an awful lot. But if you are leaving the needle in the thread, then how do you move those parked threads out of your way so easily. It just looked like you were flipping them so easily from right to left. One other question; is your laptop a Mac or a Windows platform?

I'm not Teresa, but I am working on a HAED full-coverage piece after watching her very informative video series! I've never seen anyone leave their needle in the parked threads on the front of their project. The parked threads themselves are just sort of 'gathered' out of the way of where you're currently stitching until you make progress into the section where you've left (parked) them. Then you thread your needle for whichever color parked thread you want to start with, sew the next section of stitches till you either use up that thread or have to park it again further away, and so on. I have seen people do all sorts of things with their parked threads to keep them out of their way... there are some silicone (?) spools that you can buy; some people wind their parked threads around those. I have also seen people braid the parked threads together to keep them from tangling. I use a cheap method that I saw somewhere online, which is to (carefully) gather them up and secure them with a metal barrette. The barrette either sticks to my (magnetic) needle minder out of my way, or I pin it up out of my way with a large straight. I have seen that some people park a LOT Of threads-- if they stitch across an entire row of their project at once, for example- I sew page by page and only park 5-10 threads at a time, personally, because I worry that they might get tangled up.

As Jennifer kindly informed below - I remove the needles and re-thread the colours as I go. It is still faster than ending and restarting threads all the time. I use a Windows computer

Do you back up the marked up (Highlighted/stitched) areas of your chart? I always worry that I will highlight what I stitched and then I could go along on several squares, close my app and then something happens (could be ME that pushed wrong button or something) and all the highlighted from precious stitching time is gone when I open it the next time...

Hi Annie. I have never had this happen to me. It could be the version you are using I am using version 4.13.4 and have done for years and never lost my marked areas - hope you work out what is happening, must be very frustrating

Am I missing something or are you traveling with the threads quite a bit in order to park where you need to come up next? I love how you anchor your thread. I’m going to try that. It will definitely save me some time.

Hey Glynn I will travel around 300-400 stitches away if need be, but not much further than that usually 😉

That is a brilliant tutorial on the GoodNotes. You could not have been clearer and in simple terms without complicating things. Thank you!! Two questions though. When you mark the chart, do you have to save it somehow to keep the markings, or does it automatically save as is unless you rub it out? Second question. I notice on the ipad while you are stitching there are three colours, pink, light blue and a darker blue. You showed us what the pink and light blue were, bt what is the darker blue used for? Thank you :)

Thank you for your lovely comment. So no need to save marks - it auto saves everything. For the other colours showing they are just there as alternative option - I only use 2 colours, One for parked threads and one for stitched squares - but if I fancy changing the colour then I can.

@@TeresaLittleStitcher I also love this app as it will also work on jpg images and a couplf of my patterns I have on my laptop are jpgs and not pdf. :) :) .
