This video is like gold. 1. Eat for energy before strength training 2. Reps of 8-12 of heavy weights 3 - 10 sets. 30min per session 3. Enough calories Stopped IF and eating protein after strength training to build more muscle. 35% protein 35% carbs 35% fat. More consistent in higher calories and clean eating. Cut back on cardio and had strength training 4-5 times a day. Get the mindset right. Consistency over time is the key.

Thank you for the summary and here are few minor additions to this post: Eat carbs prior to workout Eat carbs and mostly protein pst workout (within one hour) The ratio: 35% carbs, 35% protein, 30% fat. Limit stress: exercise and dancing helps to minimize stress Eating around 1700 per day as opposed to 1300 prior to transformation Make it a lifestyle.

As a former personal trainer for NATO and body builder, I can share that for me to build muscle fast I went as heavy as I could and did 3 to 6 reps at 3 sets. I built muscle fast and lost fat fast!! I ate healthy before and after my workouts and I lost unwanted weight!! I ate a ton of WHOLE EGGS!! I still workout the same and I am 50 yrs young. I do not look my age!!

Any recommendations on how doing this if my joints aren’t as strong. I have arthritis and I used to workout at the gym to gain muscles and lose body fat but I couldn’t lift practically any weight without hurting my joints. I decided to workout at home just using my body weight in my workouts as my dr recommended with “no additional weight” but this seems to help for weight loss not as well for building muscle for toning my body. Too many softy areas now. Any recommendations? Btw I’m 55.

@@MelissaNeill so how do you coordinate meals and training. Does it matter? Do you eat your meal then strenghth train. Best before & after meals? And how long should each weight train session need to be. Is it better to workout in AM or PM? Do you have another video that explains these questions? Not trying to extreme body build or do competitions or be in gym working out all day everyday, don't need to really lose much weight either , but want to address the looseness that I've started to notice upper arms, belly/hip/thigh areas, and maintain muscle and strength but want to do it in a healthy way using real food as much as possible. Looking for a simple program. I see how this could become an addiction though especially when you start seeing results..😁 Understanding the science of the body helps a lot. I listened to this 3x already and just subscribed as well. Thank you for this summary and for your service!

My menopause took a toll on me horribly. I not only gained weight but got in a lot of muscle and joint pain. Years of going to different doctors and trying different hormone pills did help a bit with hot flashes but not with the other symptoms. Finally an orthopedic surgeon told me to get bio-identical hormones. It's been only 3 months but I'm already in much less pain. My diet is not perfect but doing well and now I can lift more and heavier since I'm in less pain. Somehow we can all get there!!! Just don't give up! I'm a few years older than you.

Once again to the point! So much enjoy your videos they inspire me to keep pressing on. I started my work out journey at 52, 2 years later I am starting to see progress. Lost fat on Keto did that for about 5 months but I tell you, the change in my body started when I incorporated carbs and protein! Wow ! It's exactly like you said. Today I eat a normal meal of fats, protein and carbs with heavy lifting. What a difference; I continue to loose body fat while gaining muscle. Every month or so I find myself going down a dress size. 2019 I was a size 14 almost 16 us size when I started weighing 175lbs, today I am a size 8 us size, and weigh 150! I cannot believe I could weigh so much on the scale but actually in reality my body is in recomo mode. I no longer weigh myself instead I gauge my progress by how many inches I lost on my waste-line. 2 years ago had 33 inches today down to 28 inches and counting. God bless you and look forward to your next videos.

I completely agree, I am 64 and on fitness for five years now. I started for health reason. Anxiety, inflammation etc. The last fall was my knees bleeding and I didn’t know is going to happen. It’s a wAke up call. Now I’m so happy with the result , the bonus is my physique, loose lot of fat, build muscle and much stronger than in my forty’s. Good choice of food, self discipline, consistency , dedication and mind set is the strategy I used. 65 soon and loving the surprise I’m getting from my body. I healed naturally through the process.

I am glad I found your channel this evening. I am working out with a young male trainer who only wanted to do HIIT (I've been with him since July) and am getting very discouraged. A couple of weeks ago I asked him why we never did weight training and he said that he didn't know that was what I preferred but I asked him why he didn't start with that. He thought this would be more effective. I hate HIIT and he wanted me to get there earlier than our appointment to do 20 minutes of cardio beforehand. I can't wait until I have used up my sessions with him, I am going to follow your plan as I will be 53 in January and I would love to lose 15 pounds by then. I never see any females in my age range at the gym in the free weight area so I always feel like I don't belong over there because I am still fat. There are usually a lot of teenage boys at the gym when I am there. Sorry so long but I was so excited when I saw your channel! I am looking forward to learning from you and making changes to my life!!!!

OMG!!! This is literally going to change my life. I've decided to do a whole lifestyle change and got really serious about 3 weeks ago. I turned 50 and started menopause eight months ago. I gradually put on 25 lbs during this short period of time. First I would diet, get no results, binge, then repeat over and over till 25 lbs later. Well for the past 3 weeks, I have been eating strictly clean, no cheat days, strength training 2X a day (1 hour each time) once in the morning and once in the evening and 1 gallon of water and I got VERY limited results. I know it hasn't been long but the baby steps is very discouraging considering all the changes I made, but it sounds like I was making some of your same mistakes i.e weight lifting on an empty stomach due to intermittent fasting, calorie restriction, and not enough protein. I was feeling guilty about the brown rice and oatmeal I was eating for my carbs and was about to cut that out until I watched your video. Thank God because I really enjoyed my carbs. All this is to say is that I'm grateful I found your channel and I subscribed.

I too am in surgical menopause at age 50. However I found that cycling when I moved to the Netherlands from the US and being an ovo-pescatarian has helped me drop about 10 kilos since moving here 6 months ago. I consume about 1600-1800 kcal/day and bike about 30 minutes/day. The fat around my midsection surprisingly melted away really fast. I have dropped 2 dress sizes and feel great! One think I don’t do anymore is IF. It works for some but it destroyed my metabolism and gain weight. I also eat 5-6 times a day eating fresh fruit and veggies 2-3/day.

@@angelam.5508 that’s amazing!!! I’m so glad you found something that works for you! My issue is that when I eat animal protein, it causes my symptoms to worsen. Like the night sweats, hot flashes, mood swings, I was growing a lot of hair on my face and keeping belly fat. I have to get my protein from plants. I eat some fish every now and then, but if i try to eat it consistently, my body rejects it. Now, I’m doing much better. I take a natural estrogen supplement by smoky mountain naturals . DIM 400 mg + bioperine, and I do HIIT workouts, jump rope and weight lift. I probably work out too much, but I’m balancing out again! Best of wishes to you, love ❤️ 🤗

For people whose bodies have adapted to low calorie intake, the solution to healing your metabolism is to increase calories. Yes, you will gain weight during the first few months but probably not as much as you think. And, assuming you’re obeying your natural hunger/fullness cues, your hunger will actually begin to level out and decrease. If you’re someone who has been struggling with loss of menstrual cycle, extreme hunger, or other related issues I would highly recommend looking up stephanie buttermore’s video on her “all in” journey. She is a dr and has personally tried this approach with amazing results. She talks a lot about the science and gives insight about the process. Very good information! This video is great! I love how to explain things so thoroughly without getting too complex. Thank you!

As someone who went thru this process at the start of the pandemic I can attest to all of it, especially that early period of seeing no progress for 1 yr plus because you still haven't adapted to your new over 40 body and you're still trying the stuff that worked in your twenties or thirties. Finding a reason to not to give up and keep pushing thru that barrier is a huge factor in success or failure.

Loved this. Thank you for sharing. As a 47 year old who had my last child at 41, still continued taking and coaching martial arts, and still worked out, I can relate. While the doctors explained my excessive scar tissue was from my two Caesarean deliveries, hernia surgeries, and gall bladder removal, I was still not satisfied with “being toned and in-shape everywhere except my midsection.” I could feel my abs, and I knew they were strong (in Kung Fu, many old school Masters may stand on your abs during exercises to intensify maximum resistance & work)… but the scar tissue and attached fat made me look “pudgy,” if that makes sense… I almost cried when I saw your pictures. My “Health Motivator” and trainer, Rochelle T. Parks is also over 50, and she gives me similar advice, and I’ve experienced some great results. I’ve also cut my sugar intake drastically. The only part I was not doing was eating more before working out. I believe this is key. I only eat a banana and some wasabi peas prior to my workout. I’m changing that TODAY. Continued blessings 🙏🏾💞

Intermittent fasting should only be used occasionally. Fasting is great if you are a witch and want to be clean to do magic spells. I personally do not recommend fasting especially if you are a body builder and or have a physical job. Fasting is for a time and place. Always listen to your body and your gut. listen to your body. If its hungry then eat. Eat foods based upon your blood type. Refrain from foods that you know you are allergic to.

@CMHoist That’s interesting, because so many experts and medical doctors keep talking about the benefits of intermittent fasting. You inspires me even more. I've been working out for many years and i gotten a lot of results. But last year i was in a skating accident and lost some of my muscle on my right leg, because of the ankle fracture. Im almost 100 percent but it took me a whole year to somewhat feel normal again. I have been slacking on my eating habits, stressing, eating a lot of sweets chips but I stay going to the gym regardless. But yesterday I got myself back together and came across your video tonight an I really appreciate your feedback thank you so much. Im off on weekends an I found myself eating junk, it makes me feel so slushy and I hate that feeling. So Thank you so much Im back on my body building journey. My phrase has always been WON'T STOP CAN'T STOP!!!!!!

I value your input. As an almost 50 year old, I was doing cardio 3-4 times a week but it was when I started sea swimming and weights that weight fell off. Mindset is iso important. Weekend binging. So true. As I made the butter icing from the Christmas cake this morning, managed to not eat it! We've got this! Thank you Melissa.

Very impressive! Thank you 😊 That’s what I’ve been trying to tell people. Be consistent. Lift weights. Get enough nutrition. Prioritise protein. Nearing 60 here. 💪🏽

I’m so glad I found you, I’m 50 in 2 years and what you say makes so much sense, my body is acting so different than it did in my 20’s & 30’s. I appreciate your motivational talk , you are inspiring!

57 here too. I've worked out for years, but a little sporadic a few months/year. I recently had a body scan which is free with my gym membership. Seeing those actual numbers changed my life. Easier to understand why I'm still struggling with so much cellulite though working out regularly. I've worked out harder, but never changed my diet. Diet and workout changed now and starting to see a difference in 6 weeks. Good luck to you. 🙏

This video is coming at the right time. After being consistent and doing ALL the things in this video for a couple years- COVID hit and shut down my gym. I allowed it to be an excuse to undo all the fitness I developed. I am now in my worse position I have been in many years and beginning over. What's so funny is you are reminding me and explaining all the things I did do for success and making me realize I had the keys to success already- I just now need to pick them back up and use them! Thanks so much!

Love everything about this. I'm 55 and follow her plan with nutrition and strength with progressive overload, sleep/recovery, a gallon of water/day, walking/yoga. I've been at it for years. It works. Consistency works.
