1. Routine medical check-up - when you visit the doctor, a thorough history will be taken to determine what medications you take, your alcohol intake, your diet and activity levels, and whether you have other health conditions that increase your risk of fatty liver.
2. Physical Exam - To check for signs of jaundice, enlarged liver, and other NASH symptoms.
3. Blood Tests - To examine liver function, liver enzymes, and the presence of viral infections and rare genetic conditions that can cause a fatty liver.
4. Imaging Tests - The visual map of your liver that these tests generate help your healthcare provider gain deep critical insights about your liver disease, such as measure of liver stiffness (hardness) and fatty changes in the liver.
5. Liver Biopsy - Your tissue sample is collected for lab testing. If your liver biopsy reveals both fat and inflammation in the tissue sample, you may be diagnosed with NASH.
