If someone had just told me, go learn to roller skate, I would have just gone at my own pace without stressing and giving up. Instead I was watching all these good Instagram skaters thinking that's how it's supposed to be when you start. Ignore the internet! Just do your own thing
Yes exactly! I’ve been skating since March and what, it’s almost end of June? I can’t do transitions, fancy turns, backwards, tricks whatever but I don’t care! I feel so happy just being on the skates and just cruising around jamming with music. All that matters to me is just balance and it’s super important to have specific goals for the type of skating you want (: cheers y’all!
You can do it! Falling looks scary, but that's what protective gear is for. It's difficult to balance at first, but once you get the basics down it's like riding a bike, your muscle memory just kind of takes over and it's so much easier. It's also a lot easier if you can take a beginner's class at an indoor rink, so that you don't have to worry about inclines, people rushing around your, or debris on the ground while you're just trying to get the basics down. Fear is definitely difficult to overcome, but if skating is something that interests you, I really hope you can give it a try because it's REALLY fun!
thank you for this ; _ ; I pushed everyone around me to start roller skating and they're all amazing now and I can barely skate forward. but they're all very adventurous motivated people and I'm extremely cautious about what I do.
Thank you it has been exactly the same for me. I pushed my boyfriend to buy skates and he was already able to do more than me within 2 days… I have been skating for 2 months :’( I’m pretty cautious too
… and everyone should be wearing a helmet. ‘Cause the journey can end in the blink of an eye. Head trauma is not sexy, cute, or cool. Love your skates. Love yourself. Be safe.
I am a >40 skater just getting back on wheels after not having anything apart from flip flops on for over 30 years… day 3 and although i am not at all graceful i am having a blast
I'm 40 and my skates are supposed to be delivered tomorrow. 🤗 I'm excited to get on skates. Not sure how I'll do since I haven't been on quad skates since I was a small child. However, I have done inline skating in my teens and early 20's. It's been at least 15 years since I've been on wheels but I'm hoping my inline experiences will guide me with quad skating.... I'm excited to see people my age trying new physical activities. 😁
We need more Juniper. More Juniper please. I’m just building my first pair of skates now. My first skate goal is to stake backwards proficiently. First trick goal is shooting ducks and jumping down a stair. Ps @4:38, your flipping gnarly… your ovaries must be enormous!
I use be able do basic disco roller skating tricks until I got hurt and I couldnt do it anymore without bad ankle pains. I haven’t skated for over 25 years
Wow loved it. Totally. I feel totally at ease on flat but my taget is moxi girls skate park style. And I am so focused.. to get better at that. My personal passion! Thanks for such a topic - amazing.
She's so correct! 🔥 I go to the park and I don't care if he or she are better than me. They were like me at their beginning lol I keep saying to myself "I'll get better little by little" THANK you ❤💙💜💖you are such a sweetheart 💕
1 month to feel familiar on skates, 2 months to get comfortable, 3 months to feel comfy experimenting with casual tricks. And that's if you skate regularly enough. Roughly 4-5 times a week. From a michigander.
I've only been skating a few months and my tip is to skate a song and then sit and rest for a song. Once that's easy go for 2 songs and sit one (so on and so on)💕
Thank you I really needed this. I’ve barely started and I thought I wasn’t learning fast like everyone! But I did have a slight injury to my toes, not for skating but for different reason. I had to wait and heal for almost a month but now I’m skating again and I have notice that I’ve built muscle memory, the past month recovering I was getting stared at by my skates. Never knew how skating can be so addicting but I’m back to square 1 and I’m determined to keep it going ✨😄
I am really lucky to have a full basement. Living in the Northeast sucks because our weather can be brutal! My husband and I either go down to our basement or use the skate park.He skateboards and I roller skate. I am in my early 40’s and have skated on and off since I was 6 or 7. I had to have a knee replacement just over a year ago and never thought I would be able to get back on my feet! Now I dance skate and am working on ramp skating! I love the journey and get so excited when it’s time to tie up my skates❤️
I also live in the Midwest, and I don't live near any indoor rinks.😞 The only time I get to skate is in the spring/summer/maybe fall, and it feels like I have to relearn everything from the last summer. It never feels like I'm moving forward. And to top it off, I have no one to skate with 🥲 I've joined fb groups, Insta, tiktok, but none of the people I follow live near me, (it doesn't help that I have no means of transportation either 😅). I've even tried convincing my friends to start skating to no avail... But all of that is just excuses that won't stop me! Thank you for sharing this video! It's nice to hear every once in a while that we all go at our own pace on our journey through learning! It's motivating me to keep moving forward 🥰
When you want to go out and skate, let everyone know, maybe a week earlier than when you plan to go, and it will make people think about it. Take videos of you having fun and doing your thing and it’ll show people how fun it would be to do it too.
I am 40+ learner and my problem is definitely the fear :D I have a daymare where I lose a bit of memory everytime I kiss the ground until one day I find myself sitting on the ground wonder why my shoes have wheels :DD
Great video! Thanks! I recently started learning quad-skating and as you said it’s different skills to learn. I found two of the most important concepts are staggering both feet and then bending down both knees. With these two reminders for any beginner to follow and actually do it all the time, it will speed up the learning curves!
This is excellent advice. It is a journey, but it should be a fun one full of great memories. For me it was all the friends I made as a kid. I skated every weekend at our local roller rink’s with no drama, no hater’s and everyone was having fun. I’m 58 now and I have lost all of my skills, but I’m going to skate again. Baby steps baby steps baby steps lol. Thanks for the good advice.
I have been park skating for 6 years now. Because the park near me is very hard to skate I used to just do laps up and down and not tricks on the coping. Only just this year I have been doing tricks on the coping at a new park. It’s hard to see other people, skating for less time than you getting better quicker than you but it’s your own journey, you are not the same person. I like park skating because its an individual sport, not a competitive one.
my bf has been rollerblading since he was a kid. he taught me how to skate in an hour because he was able to pinpoint everything i was doing. skate with a buddy who gives you confident and wear your pads! you will fall but it won’t hurt if you stay low :)
Always wonderful to hear from Goolie🥰 And excellent video to a difficult question. How long does it take to get good at skating? However long it takes you🛼✌️
