I tried skating outside and there were so many cracks and I was so afraid off falling because of a recent bad fall but I skated for 5 minutes and felt proud doing such a small amount

I'm going through the exact same thing now. I tried it once thinking it would be somewhat easy, but I could barely move, tripping everywhere and got so nervous my legs started shaking. It's funny because the worst that could happen is to fall on the ground which wouldn't be a first, but I got really nervous because I couldn't skate in a fluid way at all on the streets here. Now everytime I have to try I'm nervous, but I keep challenging myself to go a little further everyday.

Loved this video! About a month ago I went to the skate park for the first time after weeks of trying to talk myself into it. I thought it would be dead, but there were so many guys on skateboards. I knew I’d be disappointed in myself if I left, so I stayed. It helped to tell a couple of the guys it was my first day; they all gave me space on the ramp to just practice pumping. In hindsight I think it’s good that my first time was so busy. It made me come to terms with the fact that people are just gonna see you fall sometimes. And everyone else was falling too. The skate park is my favorite place to go now 🛼🛼

My fear comes from social anxiety. I am new to skating and actually have yet to get on them due to work, weather and just coming up with excuses not to go. Mostly it's because I have no one to go with and get really anxious going by myself, going a long with the fear of embarrassment because I have no support system like I would have if I had a friend there.

this is literally me! i think if we can just get ourselves to even do five minutes of practice at a time, whether it's in your home if you have room, in the garage, down the street, or in an empty parking lot somewhere, even that little bit at a time counts for something :) fear isn't ever easy to face but we can always take things one step at a time, trying to overcome our own excuses. let's try and get out there soon!!

I'm 41 too. I skate well, but my mind will have me paralyzed just because of anxiety. Alyssa Rance is right: it's basically the baby steps that eventually helps us to climb out of our fear. Skate ANYWHERE and it is ENOUGH to say you have accomplished something!! I use my love of music and fear of being uninhibited to jamskate the hell out of my kitchen, dining room, bedroom, garage and driveway of my home! The music in my ear helps me to be relaxed and adventurous in front of people I" believe" are watching and laughing at me. Lol. Try your favorite music, no matter what kind of music you like. I broke my leg in 3 places at the skate park almost 4 years ago. I still can't do all the things I used to at a more aggressive level because of mobility and pain issues. I'm 42 now and it really wrecked our family fun when that happened. I am skating again, but very easy rink and trails. At least it's something. I have massive anxiety every time I lace my skates up. I will not likely skate a bowl ever again. I still love to skate though. I fall alot more, but I have my safety gear now and that helps cushion the blows. The anxiety welled up can also cause more accidents IMO. It is hard to push past that fear. I hope you can find the confidence in yourself to land your trick and finish that movie the way you envisioned it. It's been a pleasure to watch you over the past several years online. I am cheering for you, whether you do the ender trick or not.

I love this video-thanks for making it! I have PTSD, and have recently started skating. As someone whos fear usually gets to dictate almost every aspect of my life, I knew it would be a challenge-and sure enough the first time I laced up I could literally feel my heart in my throat and ears popping with fear.but what ive learned is that every time I give in and avoid/dont push back against these fears I feed the fear monster and Skating is my first step on the journey to no longer hiding/avoiding the fear/letting the fear monster control my life. It might take me x5 longer than everyone else to skate, Ill be wearing every safety gear on the market-but its such a personal victory to feel afraid, and do something anyway! I feel like Im taking my life back, thanks to Moxi girls and your inspirational skating!

Yesterday I decided to try outside skating the first time at my moms and was trying to adjust to an incline fell within two minutes and the neighbors kids laughed as my mom told me I was too old to learn. Afterwards I just tensed up and gave up. 😑

I got my moxi skates about 2 months ago, but shortly after I injured my toe. It’s healed up, however, I had only used my skates once after being excited about them for months. That first outing was so scary that I didn’t want to do it and had been using my toe as an excuse to myself. However, I saw this video yesterday and today I made myself push through the fear and go skate. All I did was practice falling because the fear of injury is really what gets me, but just being out on my skates proved that I wasn’t about to die and that everything would be fine.

When I started skating I broke and dislocated my thumb and had to have a surgery on it. My dad asked me if I was going to stop skating, I said “no of course not”. I injured it because I stood up to take my skates off and I have learnt my lesson and I sit down to take them off. Figure out why you were injured and learn from it and improve. Also wearing all protective gear can help a lot because even if you do fall you are less likely to get hurt.

It is very nice to hear that things that sometimes depress you, such as fear, failure, not achieving the same results as others, is something normal. That we should take this with distance and give ourselves a chance another time and enjoy these little progress and not compare ourselves to others. You have a very cool way of communicating your thoughts, it's so natural. Your video is very helpful.

About nailing a trick which I was terrified... The nearest skatepark from my house doesn't have mini ramps or small ramps. The ramps there are about my height (1.65 m), so every trick I try on ramps is even more terrifyng. I was trying to land a 5050 for daaayss, and then, I landed but didn't know how to drop in again, so I just rolled back to the deck where were I felt safe. The second time I landed, I was thrilled, but then I body was "falling" back into the transition. I don't know if it was the gravity or my body just saying to myself: "C'mon, I'm ready and you are postponing it because of this fear". And I HAD to drop, or I would crush myself on the floor. I did it. And I was so proud of myself. This feeling is unique. I skate only for about a year and I'm thristy for learning more. Thank you guys for all the videos, support, inspiration and tips. Love from Brazil 💛💚 PS.: Brazil has a *HUGE* LACK on brands of rollerskates, and things related. We don't have good and durable skates here. Everything comes from China, and the only national good brand stands for figure skating. We have to import everything (the good stuff!) and it is so complicated. Please thing about your brazilian friends in the future.

Even though it does scare me, I know it's something I have to do. Something inside of me is pulling me to it and it's practically all I've been thinking about. I've ordered some skates and while waiting for them, I have been binge watching beginner skating videos to try and start preparing for it. You might try doing 20 repetition breathing squats to improve your balance and leg strength. Squats really strengthen your balance a lot. Start out with a light weight and try to add 5 lbs a week, or whenever you're able. Squat twice a week and make sure to have a protein shake afterwards.

My victory was the time I practiced t-stops in a parking lot, and I was nervous about the people there making fun of me. But they didn't, and I got better at my stopping, and I didn't fall, and I got slightly more used to asphalt. After that I put skating on hold for about a year, but it's still a victory for me. And choosing to get back into it now is also a victory. Wish I'd been less alone with the fear when I started before but this really helps. It's the great challenge of life. Doing something that's worth doing but is hard and scary and requires us to just jump in. Didn't realize skating was this philosophical.

I'm just a beginner and haven't reached anything like the levels of skill shown in this video. I am past retirement age and my fear was people thinking, "Silly old fool" but people in my neighbourhood have been uniformly encouraging. The fear of failure, well, I was only scared that I might have wasted the £200 spent on boots and protective gear. The physical fear was big - I was terrified even to cross to the other side of the path outside my house at the beginning. I fell over backwards a lot at the start. Not nice. Thanks to the protective gear I did not hurt myself badly, but I DID hurt myself and still have the (low level) pain to prove it. But the joy of being able to do something that I couldn't do two weeks ago is fantastic. Roller skating is an exciting journey. The video was excellent. The level of honestly was touching and so appreciated. Thank you.

ILY Roller Goolie! You are such an inspiration and this is just the pep talk I needed. I started skating last June and ended up breaking a finger from hitting a crack in a sidewalk my first month. Not the worst thing to break, but that experience so early on had a tremendous effect on my confidence. I've pretty much been scared of speed and falling since then but I'm getting better each time I lace up. My "best feeling" story to share is when I bombed my first hill a few weeks ago. Took me a handful of bails to work up to it but I felt like I had been blessed by the She Gods when I finally did it🥰🛼 Thank you, the rest of the Moxi team, and the skate community for putting me on 8 wheels and changing my life forever💗

This video is gold, not just for skating but also solid life advice! I stopped inline skating as a child when I got injured so I have a lot of respect for safety and caution when I quad skate now. For me, breaking goals down in the the smallest increments until it feels trivial and wearing padding has really helped that fear. I've been skating for three days but a feat over fear I conquered was jumping over cracks. Flicking my toes to get more air (thank you Moxy tutorials lol) was a hurdle but I did it and got a decent amount of height!

This video really helped ease some of that, and though the feelings are still there, it’s nice to know that even people as experienced as yourself that I admire so much also have very real and very similar fears as I do! This was such a comforting and encouraging video. Thank you so so much for that. I may just take the plunge and buy myself a pair of skates and start learning again after all 🥰 (Also, for any other fellow Spoonies who may stumble upon this video/comment, I’d love to hear your specific experiences skating with chronic pain and/or disabilities! If you don’t mind talking to me about it of course.💕)

I'm a beginner and in the VERY early stages of getting used to skating outside, but I really wanted to go outside the other day so I pushed myself to do it and, after a bit of a shaky start, I was skating until the sun went down and I had the BEST time. Before I went I was worried that I'd fall and people would be looking at me but honestly, once I got outside I just got so lost in the feeling of skating and I didn't want to stop! It's such a freeing feeling. And I know it'll feel even better once I can skate more confidently! My moxi gummy wheels are helping so much though, they're amazing so THANK YOU!

Amy Loonam, I’m with you. I took two terrible tailbone falls on the same day last Tuesday on my first ever trail skate. I was terrified of the slopes, cracks, twigs, geese, mulch, and people I had to navigate. After the second fall, I knew something was seriously wrong. Uggh A week later and I’m nursing a herniated lumbar disc and can hardly walk. I want to skate so badly. I pray I can get up the nerve to tackle another trail after I heal. I pray you heal quickly and are able to also overcome the fear of falling again. It’s real.

I was so so scared of dropping in. I’ve been skating about 4 months and every time I went to the skate part I’d stand on top of the ramp and the ramp would look bigger and bigger the longer I stood there. Today there was a young girl at the park and I taught her how to drop in on a smaller ramp and then she did a bigger one and it gave me the confidence to try the big one. I did it and it felt so darn good. I was so excited. And now I can’t wait to learn stalls.

You said everything that happens to me as I approach a skate park or even go for a cruise. I live in an area that literally NO ONE skates! And to tope that I am a 30yr old mumma of 5. So I feel all the ick feelings, I get super nervous and I am not a confident person. I love skating more though! I totally feel like people are judging me, not because I am a mum, but just the fact that I am on skates. People are starring! 🙃 I am really trying to just enjoy!

Thank you for this video. I recently gave my grand children skates because, although, I was never good at it (especially as I see you doing these tricks!). But It was FUN just to float around on skates. I am 61 and will be retiring soon and decided I wanted to skate as a way to exercise during retirement. My adult children were not supportive. My husband is usually supportive of everything I do, but wasn’t excited about me doing it. I was recovering from (non skating related) foot surgery and decided to ignore the naysayers. I decided if I was going to do it, I wanted a really nice pair of skates, so I read a lot of reviews and decided on a Moxi pair of black suede skates. I was so looking forward to trying them so I could skate with my grandkids-or alone around the neighborhood. I hadn’t skated in 30+ years before two days ago, and although I knew better I didn’t sweep the driveway first and since I was super rusty, when I hit a rock, I fell hard on my rear end. I can’t wait til it heals so I can get back up and enjoy skating again! Thank you for this video of encouragement!

Have you ever thought of using a wobble board to help improve your balanced. It is not the same as balancing when rolling forward, but it might help. m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xeWTiJ99Wms.html My wobble board is the type shown in this video: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-35fhzkjWGAc.html ... it allows you to wobble in all directions, not just side to side.

It's not new trick I'm afraid of... It's skating itself, Im just so afraid that I freeze the moment I have skates on my feet and nothing to hold on to. My legs go wobbly and I can't even start to move. I purchased a pair of secondhand skates in August 2020 and got close to no progress at all. I could only do a forward bubble and a backward one in front of my bed. But the moment I was outside... I could do nothing even though I kept trying for months. I got softer wheels to avoid feeling the pebbles too hard but... still no improvement. I have a poor sense of balance, even without wheels on and was told that artistic skates could help so I purchased a pair this summer. But the moment I was outside... same story. I freeze and start getting weak legs. I don't know what to do. I just get so depressed for repeatedly failing, my friends tell me that I should just give up, that it's not my thing, but it makes me feel so bad to not being able to conquer my fear. All the more since, as a child, I could spend hours on wheels. I am not the self-confident type and have the feeling that skating could really help but so far it just "proves" how lame I am :/
