Aww man, this was so awesome. I enjoyed it from beginning to end and I'm super envious but happier that you guys spotted the rare Cerulean Warbler. How cool!

I love Cerulean Warblers. There are a lot in West Virginia at my old home.

I've recorded about 30 species of Warbler in my little migrant trap of a yard in Midtown Omaha since 2012. Some of the better species have been Cerulean Warber (2016), Black-throated Blue Warbler (2016). Yellow-throated Warbler (2012, 2020, 2021), Hooded Warbler (2015, 2020), Pine Warbler (2012, 2017), and MacGillivray's Warbler (2018).

That place rocks. The Cerulean was one of the elusive little ones that I had to count without seeing due to hearing its call so distinctly. It took me five years to get a photo. Nothing like a successful hunt.

This is insane! What a crazy day. Haven't experienced a crazy warbler migration like this yet in Quebec.

Follow Thomas We shot this a few weeks ago so sadly our peak migration is over as well :( It just took a bit of time to edit and get ready. I believe we shot the footage on May 15th.

Wow. This was fantastic! I really enjoy your videos. Is it really easy using your camera alone to view birds? Is the camera better and easier to use than a pair of binoculars?
@BadgerlandBirding
@BadgerlandBirding 2 года назад
We think it is, but we just kind of starting birding with them and never used binoculars. However people who use binoculars will tell you that we’re crazy. It’s definitely a personal preference!
@AllThingsConsidered333
@AllThingsConsidered333 8 месяцев назад
I use both and have such fun! I got a harness strap for the binoculars and a shoulder strap for the camera so it’s pretty easy for me to switch between the two. I do want to get a better zoom - I have a 300mm on my Nikon 5500 (my first digital camera!) but my arms are weak from so much muscle destruction and nerve damage from chronic tick diseases that was pretty severe a few years ago- it makes my arms shake to hold the camera up and I enjoy walking while looking for birds and other wildlife. I do have tripods but it’s not my fav way to take pics yet. I’d like to get better at taking video of the birds with my camera- it’s hard for me to find and focus, even with the adjustable viewfinder screen so for now usually I use my iPhone 14Pro for videos..

Awesome video again guys! This was my first warbler migration and it was so much fun! Derek, if you still haven’t gotten a cerulean warbler by now you should check out the South Kettle Moraine Forest near palmyra because they breed there! I would think that’s probably not too far away from you guys. Also, why do you choose not to bring binoculars along with your camera? I am always so afraid that I won’t get a good enough look to ID with my camera alone.
@BadgerlandBirding
@BadgerlandBirding 4 года назад
Thanks, Peter! We were actually in the South KM earlier today. I was able to get a look at a Cerulean not too long ago (video coming soon), but haven't seen one in the South KM yet, but I know they're there. We've always just kind of used cameras so we're pretty good at spotting stuff through the lens right away and we really like having the ability to snap photos or videos as soon as we see something. Glad you enjoyed your first warbler migration!
