Hey Folks! Nick here. Currently unable to upload, as RU-vid has pulled THREE videos down and issued Community Guidelines strikes in the process. These were older videos that had previously had no issues with policy violations at all. Unfortunately, I may have the Archetype of Man channel deleted when this all plays out. I'm over on Rumble and Odysee just in case. I really hope this isn't the end of the channel, but if it is, thank you all for everything you've done over the years. Stay safe, and keep shooting.

I don't really care if it's "more powerful or more better". It's a nostalgic round for me. As a kid, my dad had a Marlin tube fed .22 mag with a scope and a gold trigger and I thought that was the coolest thing ever. I still think it's a great round. Yup- pistol length barrels aren't enough to make a significant difference in velocity between the two, which is why I've ever been interested in a .22 mag hand gun. The RIFLE, on the other hand, provides the opportunity for the magnum to burn up all that propellant in the long case.
@ArchetypeofMan
@ArchetypeofMan 2 года назад
Absolutely, although I do recognize even in pistols, the 22 Mag seems to have more solidly built projectiles. That could count for something if one were doing something that "mattered" with it. lol

Looking at ballistics between the two cartridges, the 22mag has about a extra 100yds on a 22lr. So a 22mag has the same velocity @100yds as a 22lr leaving the muzzle.

I like these types of videos. For me, you're best served with a mix of different styles. The only .22WMR I have is the extra cylinder for the Single Six. Never used it much, maybe a hundred rounds. I like my .22 Hornet as a medium round but, it could be hard to find even before the Flumegedon. I've recently gotten an itch for a 3" Ruger LCRX in .22WWMR. The only reason I don't own an American Ranch is I could never decide on caliber. You may have just solved that.

To fire 22lr in a 22 magnum you should use a 22 mag case with the rim cut off , as a sleeve . Works perfectly, in fact the 22 lr in the 22 mag rifle was more accurate then the 22 magnum ammo. I did a video about this on my channel a few weeks ago .

Good video! I like that you took and posted numbers for these old eyes to see. I’ve been a fan of the WMR round for a while and am in the market for another. I currently have .22 Hornet, .222Rem, 22-250, and .243 calibres for truck guns and hunting varmints. The .17WSM we have is obsolete because rounds are too expensive. It was a great round because it was accurate and cheap, but will be moving to a different .17 or going to the WMR. Both can be cheap to shoot and I like the added bullet weight of the .22 mag and my targets are usually less than 100 yards . I’m leaning towards the .22WMR and the Ruger american, but I’m stuck on a scope choice. I like a good quality fixed in 4 or 6X like Leopoldo or nikon, but am aghast that these options are scarce these days. I wish some of you kind folks would weigh in here! What would you do? 😉

Pretty reasonable description. I will say, I have a BCA 22mag upper and cut the barrel down to 8” and with CCI Maxi Mags 40gr I get 1790fps. 22 mag velocities from a revolver with a cylinder gap are pretty significantly lower. For example in this video he is getting 1100fps with 22 mag and a 6.5” revolver, whereas with a semi auto such as the Keltec PMR (or your choice of semi auto) with a 4-5” barrel you get around 1300fps. Yep, 22mag has a big following in Texas. Like you show here you don't gain much in a revolver.....other than blast. One thing though I have never had a mag fail to fire. Used to LR especially bulk ammo was bad about having duds. Now lately I have been shooting thousands of rounds of bulk LR through my CMMG Conversion for the AR and I have had virtually no issues. Ironically the only failure to fire was with a CCI. Most ammo shot was Federal Auto Match and Remington Golden Bullets. Their velocities vary wildly but, they are going bang. It could be the hard hit the AR trigger group is putting on them that has made fails to fire a none issue.

I don't have a great way to compare that, honestly. I don't have many models of .22 WMR that have a corresponding .22LR model, and vice versa. But as far as ignition, I've experienced far less failures to fire with .22WMR

Can the 22magnum be fired from a 2inch barrel of a snub nose pistol
@ArchetypeofMan
@ArchetypeofMan 2 года назад
It can if the revolver is chambered for it. Now, your results as far as terminal performance will likely suffer as a result of the short barrel. But that comes with the territory lol

I'm in a country where i cant get any semi auto center fire rifles, so seeing how 22mag performs its really making me consider getting a 22mag semi auto rifle to fit my """""fighting rifle""""" slot. I may get a 223 bolt action at some point or even a 30-06/308 but def. Having a semi auto with 10-20rd mags beats a 308 bolt action with 5 round mags

I think my favorite thing I've heard it called was "22 Mangle'Em" by an old timer that came in the shop. 🤣🤣

That's kind of slow on the 22 mag. My 18" semi auto CZ512 gives me a velocity of right around 1900fps. Maybe I had a fast lot? I dunno. Personally, I have a 22LR bolt gun and it pretty much is just a trainer for people these days. The CZ512 can do everything it does but at a longer range. The form 1 can I have makes it hearing safe in small bouts with supersonics, and the Winchester 45gr subsonic (now discontinued) does what 22LR does and just as quiet. I even load a cycling 50gr subsonic with the 50gr gameshok bullet in A22 cases with red dot (I'll be trying trailboss soon). I also have a 22 K hornet, and I love it, but between the semiautomatic 22WMR and my 223 Remington chassis bolt gun, I have my 22 caliber needs filled.

A 22 mag. is about 800 ft per second better than a 22 lr.
@ArchetypeofMan

In rifles, yes. In handguns, that advantage shrinks some as far as velocity goes... BUT... you DO get better bullet construction in the .22 WMR than .22LR

I have more luck with stopping ground hogs it's a right smart of difference with the .22 mag more so than the .22lr. Squirrels not so much difference. Rabbits not so much.. Of course I'm using rifles though. Crono only tell you #'s....go hunting with 'em that tells the tale. I have a old marlin .22 mag and a savage .17hmr no need taking a .22lr for ground hogs. And for over 200yds I have a savage m12 in 22-250. That will turn a ground hog into squishy sausage.

Not all single-action 22 revolvers are created equal. Ruger Single Six convertible with the 6.5-inch barrel averages 1403 fps with the exact same .22wmr ammo. Heritage just isn't worth it. How they manage to drop 300 fps over the Ruger is beyond me.

Well, as you are getting hyped up over the .22 Mag., maybe it's time to step it up yet another notch. NOW... you need to get your hands on a .17 HMR; the rimfire cartridge that stood the varminting world on it's ear.
@concernedaussie1330
@concernedaussie1330 2 года назад
But really only good for varmints. However a 17 hmr in a pistol would be really interesting to see the numbers & compared to 22 or & 22 mag. My guess is it would have a terrible time cycling a semi auto action & the energy would most likely be down a fair bit. Still I’d love to see it.
@carfvallrightsreservedwith6649
Disagree...., step right into the 17WSM & 17 Hornet.

Better at what ? If better means most powerful or longer range, then 22 wmr is better. ... But if better is light weight, portable , quiet and lower recoil, 22 lr wins. There's more to a caliber than how powerful it is. Once you have enough power, more is kind of meaningless.
@Logan-py8we

So pellet guns are better than 22LR cause it's lighter? You speak nonsense.

For what purpose. Shooting rats and rabbits on the farm a 22short is enough. For personal carry the 22WRM Thunderstruck is awesome. Just avoid the Mk.1 as it was picky on ammo sometimes causing the bullet to tumble. The longer barrel on the Mk.2 solves this.

The 22 LR & 22 magnum are fantastic little cartridges . Both have large verities of ammo including subsonic. The 22 LR can be fired in the 22 magnum with fantastic results if using a 22 mag case as a chamber sleeve . ( cut off the rim ) also the 22 magnum can be custom loaded with std .224 rifle bullets & set up for longer range use ! If one wants to go to that trouble. Check out this video of shooting the 22 magnum at 1000 yards ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Em-7LoXAp-w.html .

@@ArchetypeofMan hahahaha my pleasure 😁. I did a video a few weeks ago on my channel about the 22 lr in the magnum. There’s no footage of actual shooting because I’m in Australia & we have gun hating police & media. The results shocked me with how well they shot. My misus has a custom 22lr squeeze bore in the shop atm , squeezing std factory 22lr down to .204 , in a 1:8 twist 22” barrel. Allegedly should gain 150-200fps , increase BC & SD , penetrate deeper & is more devastating on target from the higher rpm from twist rate & increase in velocity & use of soft lead . Really can’t wait to see how the aguila 60 gr go & some of the monolithic copper hyper velocity as well . Btw meant to be a 200 yard bunny rifle 🤔
