In today's video we talk glycogen, in particular does lifting weights in the gym decrease muscle glycogen? Judd looks into a study that compares the results of high rep vs low rep ranges on depletion of muscle glycogen.
The question of how much glycogen do we store is also answered

If a simple leg ext workout does that, imagine what a heavy full body would do

It is true that your body begins resynthesize Glycogen after a workout, but if glycogen is too low, it does this by using adrenaline and cortisol stress hormone to break down amino acids/protein to convert to glucose. This isn’t the best thing for anabolism. So from that stand point I’d say carbs after a workout is important.

Mabey the amount of glycogen usage between the high rep and low rep , as in the distance runner and weight lifter . is the total amount of kaloric usage. Or the amount of work the muscle has done. The more strenuous the work load the more energy used. The body is an amazing machine .
@thegripguy9696

uh, the real reason to carb load right after workout vs some other time of day isint due to the muscles being depleted, is due to the need for high insulin levels post-workout. its much better to have high insulin levels around workout than other times of day.

Why so?
@thegripguy9696
@thegripguy9696 3 года назад
@@lilosnitch3247 insulin reduces muscle breakdown induced by resistance training. hence you want it to be high right around when working out.

@@thegripguy9696 sorta, insulin stops catabolism. Catabolism is the breaking down of a substrate, so to break down protein from food you actually want catabolism
@thegripguy9696
@thegripguy9696 3 года назад
@@RobRIPDG if it wasnt helpful to have higher insulin post workout people wouldnt use synthetic insulin as a PED for muscle growth. its also not the more the better with workout catabolism, if that were true it would build the most muscle to do 25 sets to fail of each exercise. there is only so much catabolism that is necessary and what you want to the best net anabolism&catabolism

Ok does 1 gram of carbs or sugars equal 1 gram of 1 gram of glycogen? Stored in the muscles once consumed?
@jmac3112
@jmac3112 4 года назад
Do you mean if you eat 1 gram of carbs you'll get one gram of glycogen in your muscles? Also, when glycogen is stored in the muscle, there is an equivalent 4 grams of water so for every gram of glycogen in muscle, there's a net gain of 5 (1 gram glycogen, 4 grams water)

No, it's not 1:1 given digestion/absorption/bioavailability inefficiency and homeostatic blood pool of glucose

If you've not eaten anything for hours after lifting and your body re-synthesises glycogen, is that from stored fat then?

isn't normal fasting glucose only 80-100 mg/dl or, 4-5g of sugar? Where does the ~25g come from?

considering that digestion in the stomach Takes Like one hours and complete digestion of one meal Takes 5-7 hours it is No Wonder that people resythesyse glycogen after Training automaticly because the meals and carbohydrates before the workout are still digesting

But how does the body resynthesize glycogen? Gluconeogenesis (so fat or protein converted into glucose)?

Hi i have some questions for you (sorry about my english)i would be so happy if you inform me 1. After eating Sugar(Glycogen) ,Bread etc, fat , protein, what is the cycle of these foods timing ,you say muscles and liver stock glygocen , i try to eat after i get really hungry and after eating i start working out even i get appromaxitely 300 500 kalorie meal mostly vegetables and a little bread sometimes i put some sugar on my tea ,when i am hungry and i eat, do the foods first get in to my mucsles or liver (do these foods fill my deficiency of my glycogen stock in my muscles and liver firstly?, i first try to use up most of the glycogen in my body before i start abs excersize because abs workout is kinda difficult ,and when i workout abs i feel like the body first use the glycogen stocks, i keep my self starving before abs workout, would you inform me about glycogen fat timing to get in to blood ,muscles and the capacity ,do muscles stock the glycogen as glycogen form or turn them in to fat , thanks

It’s probably really hard because you deplete you’re glycogen stores first! That is your muscles energy to do the workout. Without glycogen, your body burns it’s own muscle for fuel and you lose muscle and feel like shit all At the same time

How many calories in our liver and muscle glycogen? Do my glycogen stores expand over time the more I exercise? And does my body re-synthesise new glycogen from my body fat? Thanks
@darksavior1187
@darksavior1187 Год назад
A gram of glycogen is about 4 calories, the beginning of the video indicates on average people can have about 525 grams of glycogen in them. Your muscles grow both myofibrillar and sarcoplasm, so the more lean mass you have the higher your glycogen storage will become. You body doesn't so much re-synthesize glycogen from fat as burn fatty acids directly once fat is called upon for energy, but mechanisms do exist in the body for converting fat and protein into glucose when needed.
@1594615
@1594615 6 лет назад
So resistance training during a period of calorie deficit causes glycogen depletion in the muscle - and that’s why muscle growth is impeded in a deficit? The mass can be maintained but not increased because of a lack of carbs that help build mass?

A muscle tends to grow best when it's energy stores are topped up. Ie somewhat full glycogen

I went on the carnivore diet with most days less 10g of carbs with one meal a day. I've never gained muscle so quickly before, 12lbs so far with lots of fat loss. Basically have no glycogen stores, am in ketosis.

he said that ur glycogen will be restored if u haven't eaten anything,it might be restored through our muscle protein which cause a decrease in muscle mass, but what we want to is maximize muscle growth and have a greater fat loss. i really didnt get his point.
