I was SO nervous when I first got my turtle because I was so scared of overfeeding and not giving him enough heat

A couple years ago my son told me that turtles were actually supposed to be able to pull their head and legs back into their shell! Can you imagine that? I cut back a bit on how much I was feeding them. Little beggers!

This a great idea! I’m going to start doing this for my turtle! He was being a great eater when I first adopted him. Then he seemed disinterested in his food. I am feeding Elliot various things that you’ve recommended in previous videos and that seemed to helped out. Thank you!

If I feed my turtle as much as she can eat in 15 minutes she might eat over 20 pellets :p

My red eared slider (5-6in length) is so picky. It doesn't want to eat any veges, not even fruits lol. Today I tried wrapping a pellet in a small thin piece of lettuce. The result was it took a bite and immediately spit it back out. Then it just moved away from it. 1 hour later, it never took a bite. Sometimes I would leave a 3-4inx2in lettuce leaf overnight and the next morning, it's still intact in perfect condition, haha. The things that he? would eat so far are hard boiled egg, raw shrimp, and pellets. :'( So far he? rejected lettuce, bok choi, cauliflower, grapes (sliced), thinly sliced carrot (from the tip's end), and thinly sliced small piece of apple.

All your videos are amazing! We just got an albino red eared turtle for Christmas and I am trying to educate myself on care. How often do we feed a baby red eared slider? And how often clean tank? Also, after we clean the tank so we need a new calcium tablet? Thank you 😊

There are automatic feeders, put a battery in the unit and it will dispense food very 12/24 hours. It depends on the type and model, some models may have more options on how and when to feed.

for adults, could you just feed them daily but at 1/3 the amount you would feed according to your system? if you divided the feeding by the amount of days it's the same quantity of food, but in intervals. will that keep them healthy?

When you're doing your vid your turtle looks so happy going about its business. Haha My little girl would be stuck at the front of the tank casing me in case I'm ready to feed her. It makes me feel so guilty! I hope I'm not overfeeding her. She gets a lot out of me!

I might be muddling all the research I've been doing, but I'm getting the impression I should feed veggies on a separate schedule from pellets? I would feed my adult yellow bellied slider 3 times a week or so the amount of pellets the size of his head, but every day offer him greens? Or should I include the greens in the 3 feedings a week?

Hi! Do you feed your turtle just pellets? I was told that was too high in protein and could cause pyramiding. I have a turtle myself and have been doing some of my own research. I may think some of your facts are wrong. Turtles need lots of veggies. I don’t know about your turtle types needs but, red ear sliders do need veggies. Maybe the next time you do a video like this add the veggies part? And please mention live food little bit more! This is giving the impression that turtles only need a pellet diet. Which is wrong. :(

This is the same rule I use as far as the amount to feed my turtles and it works well. I read the back of turtle food containers and just laugh because if I fed the amount they could eat in 15 minutes it would be wayyyyyy too much and their shells would be highly deformed by now. I have 5 adults of different species and sizes and they get fed twice a week with the amount of food that would fill each of their heads. When I go out of town for a week I set up an automatic feeder because I feel bad even though I know they would be fine. I just like to have that extra security in case something happened and I wasn't able to make it home when I thought

Ha I started measuring Rufus food by the size of his head, because I didn't want him to get fat. Yeah his legs are starting to pour out of his shell like a loaf of bread out of a baking pan. What a coincidence. Rufus is a tiny baby snapping turtle. Great video.

Hiya, we bought our red ear slider when he was very young and tiny. We’ve had him for 2 months (in about a week) and he’s growing really really quick!! He seems to want to eat ALL the time. We feed him about 20 tiny pieces of food 3 times a day but after watching this I think it’s too much? Would appreciate any advice!!

I have inherited my daughters turtle who is a little guy. I feed him every other or third day and on the second day of no feeding I give him a small amount of lettuce. Is this OK. I feed him dried shrimp and these green turtle dried little stringy things. I am not sure exactly what kind of turtle he is however he was purchased at the boardwalk at Daytona Beech four years ago.

I'm looking into getting a mini dwarf red eared slider- because they're on the tiny side and I have limited space and I just think they're so adorable. Is a ten gallon tank big enough for one or two of these? And do you have any vids about mini dwarf red eared sliders? I've been watching a few of your basic vids already and have learned a lot- like the 10 gallons to 1 inch of shell suggestion/rule of thumb. Hi The Turtle Girl! I first wanted to say that your videos are helping me so much! I have never owned a turtle but am setting up a tank for a baby Razorback Musk. I feel prepared after watching yours and some other RU-vidrs videos. So I was wandering if being on vacation for a week still applies for hatchlings or younger turtles? You said that you have left for a week before but would that still apply for my baby Musk? The thing I am most worried about is that I won't feed my turtle enough or I will feed him to much, so I was wandering if anyone can tell me if this feeding schedule for a Musk hatchling woukd be fine Sunday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Lettuce Monday: 1 Tsp Pellets, a few Mealworms Tuesday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Lettuce Wedensday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some dried Crickets Thursday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Lettuce Friday: 1 Tsp Pellets, Some Dried Shrimp Saturday: 1 Tsp Pellets Do you think that would be to much food or is that enough? Sooo... I have a yellow belly slider, her shell is 6" in length her age is unknown. Would it make sence to feed her veggies daily and reptomin pellets 3x a week? What do i do if my turtle actually begs for food every day around the same time then stops after he gets fed

So... I've had my baby turtle (RES) for almost a whole year now... and I'm pretty sure turtles are supposed to grow a little bigger after a year, but my turtle hasn't grown. I sometimes feed her pellets and some turtle diet food or whatever, and I've been feeding her some dried up baby shrimp and krill. What do I need to feed her in order for her to grow?? I know she needs more protein, for sure, but what are the best foods for turtles with protein????

I use my phone to alert me when its feeding time.

Hi Turtle Girl, I have been feeding my Yellow Belly Hatchling that is 2 months old 13 baby repto pellets in the morning and then 13 baby pellets in the night Every day.... Then, every few days i add turtle dried shrimp treats mixed in with the pellets... My turtle seems to be very hungry so I am wondering if I am feeding it too much? I am feeding twice a day a total of 26 pellets 13 in morning and then 12 hours later at night another 13 and he eats all of them within 3 minutes is what the directions say on container.. I have a... about 6 year old yellow belly 🐢& have been feeding her Mon Wed Friday & Saturday the round pellets & on Tues Thursday Sunday the sticks along with some dried shrimp...should I now this later in her life change up the feeding schedule as per your video? 🐢 Or will the feeding schedule I have going on now hurt 🐢?

My turtle is about 3 inches so he's somewhat a juvenile I guess you could say... I just got him and I'm not sure on the amount I feed him. I give him at least 8 pellets in the morning and a little snack like veggies, fruit, dried shrimp or worms on the afternoon with 3 pellets.. is that okay?

Hi guys 🙌🙌 I recently bought a red eared slider and I read that we are supposed to feed baby sliders food everyday but also to be careful not to overfeed (protein/calories) them as that can lead to pyramiding of the shell or turtle obesity. I am currently feeding him pellets (OF TT-G1 pro and Saki-Hikari turtle food about size of his head as advised from the web/RU-vid) every other day and unlimited vegetables (as advised by some RU-vidr) - rotating between mustard greens, green leaves lettuce, and endives, and carrot and cuttlefish bone (once a week supplementary for vit A and calcium)- on non-pellet days. I know that baby sliders need protein as they are still growing rapidly and I'm wondering if feeding vegetables would suffice it's dietary needs. My slider's stool is watery from the vegetables consumption and I think it's from the overconsumption of leafy vegetables. Example of a week's feeding schedule Mon - Brand A Pellets and vegetables Tue - Vegetables Wed - Brand B Pellets and vegetables Thu - Vegetables and cuttlefish bone Fri - Brand A Pellets and vegetables Sat - Vegetables and carrot Sun - Brand B Pellets and vegetables Do advised as I'm not sure if this is the right way to go about feeding a baby slider. 🙇🙇

hello love your videos has helped me out a lot. i just have a question when you take them out to feed them in a smaller box does the water have to be room temperature and conditioned or can i just use the tap water since they will be there just for a bit to eat.

My painted turtle that I abducted from the lake a few days ago is a guestimated three weeks old. I pick out the smallest mealworms from the container and feed him one mealworm for breakfast, one for lunch, and one right before bed. I leave the biggest mealworms in the bin to, ya know, do their thang and make more mealworms. Yay for mealworm breeding! (He also gets some fruit and veggies when I succumb to his begging)

Hey I got my turtle about three years ago and when I got her she was the size of a half a dollar really small. She's grown a lot probably the size of a note 9. Would she be considered a juvenile? Also I used to give her pellets but I tried to give her red dried shrimp and that's all she wants to eat. So I try giving her something else? Or is it okay to just stick to that?

What do turtles do in the wild? Do they eat every other day and do they only eat the amount you recommend? Or, because they have an abundance of area to swim/ travel would they be okay eating daily?
