Weight loss for knee arthritis is often recommended by healthcare professionals. And it’s a great starting point to begin to fix your knee arthritis problem. In fact, this research study shows a direct connection between improvements in knee osteoarthritis as more weight was lost.
THAT’S AWESOME!!!
But what if you don’t have much weight to lose and you still suffer from knee arthritis?
What if you did lose weight and you do feel better, but you’re still suffering from knee arthritis pain?
There’s more to it than just weight loss.
Dr. David takes you through the research study and then discusses what else can be contributing to your knee arthritis problem.
Here is the research study that Dr. David references
“Is There A Dose-Response Relationship Between Weight Loss And Symptoms Improvement In Persons With Knee Osteoarthritis?” 2016

I lost 65 lbs on ketogenic diet and it helped my knees and back . Then did cornnivore and lost inches I found out the oxalates in veggies and some fruit really hurt my body. As I added one thing at a time found out what I can not eat. Removed them from my diet and I feel a lot better. Now I will Tuffin up my butt lol.

Getting all the carbs, sugar and processed foods out of your diet will definitely help. It will not only get rid of weight but inflammation as well. When I got rid of those things it only took 2 weeks for the inflammation in my body to go down and my knees and shoulder felt soooo much better.

this is such important information and this needs to get to the medical system more. they ignore it a lot. they only focus on weight. i am strong and swim regularly, and since watching you, i've been working on my glutes and my knees are doing better than ever. I sent my physiotherapist a couple of your links and she was very supportive.I am almost 60 years old nd my knees are better than they ever have been in years. My knees started to get bad in my mid thirties and it got so bad. gradually i looked into foods, spices etc, on my own. nothing from my own physician on that. just weight loss. I was lucky to love swimming and i started to get back in to swimming. 0f years of steady swimming. And I was not doing speed or laps ... but i've graduated to doing water exercises and stretches and laps. i feel so strong!!!

Hey Jane, we 100% agree this info needs to be pushed out to more people!!! We're soooo happy to hear that you've been better than ever! That's AMAZING!!!! Very cool that you've been able to get back into swimming and also doing some water exercises while you are there! Thanks so much for sharing our videos!

Someone on a knee replacement fb group said their non surgical leg and older replaced knee was being aggravated when they did their exercises. I referred to you and how often a dominant quad can cause problems. I linked one of your videos. I think the glut idea was foreign to some and one person asked a pt in the group what she thought of the video. She said she agreed and said when helping those with knee replacements recover she has them squeeze their butt going up steps. I lost weight before my surgery and i think it helped my non surgical leg. 10:24 10:24

I lost 80 lbs in 2003-04. My knee pain became so much worse. Now almost 20 years later I gained that weight back and I am in a wheelchair and cannot get surgeries until I loose that weight. 2 doctors have said I have the worst knees they have ever seen. Stage 4 bone on bone in both knees.
@wordinplaywithkarenhodgeth5605
Paula, I’m curious as to how you lost weight. I lost 50 pounds and like you, my knee pain got worse as I lost. My method was low carb. This meant I ate lots of high protein foods - lots of bacon, pork rinds, etc. After trying to make sense of it all, I discovered via the Internet that likely excessive animal protein caused my increased knee pain.

I'm having knee pain now, and I'm seeing a physical therapist. I have lost weight, and could lose some more. I have to admit, after losing some weight my knees did feel better. But I was not aware of the muscle strength. I do go to the gym 2x a week for Zumba. And I walk 2x a week 3 to 5 miles. How is the muscle strength incorporated?
@epmanualphysicaltherapy
@epmanualphysicaltherapy Год назад
Hey Cleo! That's great that losing weight helped your knees! You need to learn how to use your glutes more with all activities, especially at the gym, when walking and even when doing Zumba!

I’m surprised that you can do Zumba with sore knees. My knee can’t take pivoting or twisting that is involved in Salsa dancing etc. It makes me sad because I love it.

@epmanualphysicaltherapy
@epmanualphysicaltherapy Год назад
Hi Cindy, We are so sorry to hear that you are dealing with knee popping/cracking when moving. This doesn't necessarily indicate arthritis but it's worth getting a professional evaluation to rule out any underlying conditions. We have a video we would recommend that might be helpful for the symptoms you are displaying. You can check it out here:“Why are my knees crunchy? | Cause of Knee Crepitus | Knee pain & Cartilage Problems” ru-vid.combbhjeHnA3Do We wish you all the best in your road to recovery! 🧡 Please take care. 🙌

@epmanualphysicaltherapy
@epmanualphysicaltherapy Год назад
Hey @hinamohanty2343, sorry to hear that you've been found to have knee osteoarthritis :-( The number one priority for you should be to fix any muscle imbalances you've got. Once you've done that, then road running should be fine. But if you go running before you've addressed muscle imbalances, then you might progress knee arthritis more quickly. In case you need it, here is our playlist of all our knee arthritis videos: “Knee Arthritis Pain Help” ru-vid.com/group/PLJVIPiFvv1maa9YF-WmKLF7oI4VoczH8i You should also consider learning more about our knee arthritis recovery program here: “Knee Arthritis Recovery Program” www.epmanualphysicaltherapy.com/knee-arthritis-recovery-program

 @epmanualphysicaltherapy Thank you for another great video! I have Knee Arthritis (don't know the stage) and have - of course - pain from it. I am overweight and would love to hear if walking (5 km every day) is a good thing for me to do? I can only walk if I take pain killers but I got the impression from my doctor that taking pain killers AND going for walks is better than not taking pain killers and not going for walks. Do you agree? Something else: I recently started in a gym and would love - absolutely love! - a video from you about which gym exercise mashines are great for us with knee arthritis? Thanks som much in advance if you get a chance to make a video about that 🫶
